Hi there,

Please give a try to the beta of the new Android App for Android!

In order to install the beta, you need an Android phone running 2.3.3 and above. You also need to set your phone to allow installation from 'Unknown Sources'. Go to Settings > Applications > Unknown sources menu. Once that’s done, you can download the app by following the link and selecting Download.

Get it at https://soundrop.box.com/s/529bc2ffcfaa79d1b411 :)

You just go into spotify and search the apps for soundrop and add it.
Once you have it click on that url it should take you to the ilxors room. Click on "follow" so it always shows up.
once you're in the room to chat/add/vote you need to sign into soundrop with either your twitter or facebook account. Then thats it.
You cant chat/add/vote unless you sign in.

can somebody explain why a soundrop room is better than a collaborative playlist?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:53 (thirteen years ago)

is it cause you can "chat"?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

yes

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 4 July 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

i guess i'm just amazed that that's so in demand. the ability to chat.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 5 July 2012 09:09 (thirteen years ago)

Bump, 'cause I'm in it.

J, Thursday, 5 July 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

More people should use it. There's so much music to choose from and you dont have to upload mp3s. You can extend the chat window too by dragging it downwards since the last update so lack of chat space is no excuse now. Esp as plug.dj has even less chat space!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 5 July 2012 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

I'm surprised no one ever seems to be in it or whatever. Spotify has most everything and yeah -- chatting. Ya know, discussing things with friends over a few chill tracks? its a pain that I can't just easily upload an mp3 but I can usually find the song I'm looking for on spotify.

'Sit pax in valle tamesis' ('Let there be Peace in the Thames Valley') (Viceroy), Thursday, 5 July 2012 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

http://blog.soundrop.fm/post/49200366479/welcome-to-the-new-soundrop-web-player

Most people think of Soundrop as an app inside Spotify. While it’s true that we have an app in Spotify, Soundrop is actually a social listening platform. We make our service available wherever people want to listen to music. Our first app was made for Spotify. Then we made it possible for people to embed their Soundrop room on a Facebook page. Now, we’re upgrading our home on the web- http://play.soundrop.fm/

Looks like its using youtube. So its not even using spotify! Spotify haters can use it and not use spotify!

All your favorite rooms are here, from our popular genre rooms like Chill Out, Indie Wok or Dubstep, to official rooms for your favorite artists like Owl City, Zedd, David Guetta or many others.

The best part: it’s all the same room, whether you listen in our web player, in Spotify or on an artist’s Facebook page. Everything — chatting, voting and adding — is synced in real-time. You’re all in the same virtual room. The only difference is that our web player handles the music playback from YouTube. It’s that simple (although technically incredibly complex, but that’s what we’re here for).

And you’ll notice that the Soundrop rooms have been renovated too. Chat is back in the main room view, and we separated the activity feed. Everything is right at your fingertips.

song from omd album is up next

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

This seems to work ok - compared to Plug you have the Spotify catalogue rather than the YouTube catalogue and you don't have dancing avatars.

scintilla (seandalai), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

Besides that it's more or less the same thing.

scintilla (seandalai), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

Getting into this!

scintilla (seandalai), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

turrican misses the dancing bears. btw if you use spotify you can favourite songs and they go in your starred songs folder. Also it scrobbles. The web app non spotify thing is a bit more basic but if youre really against spotify its worth using.
Its worth trying for a few weeks . We all hated plug at first and wished for outloud!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 23:30 (thirteen years ago)

well it was a good idea until people decided it needed to be run exactly like plug... :(

a giant death ray seems a bit overkill (Viceroy), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)

enjoy not using soundrop like normal people do, I won't be joining you bumbling idiots.

a giant death ray seems a bit overkill (Viceroy), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:01 (thirteen years ago)

I much prefer plug, to be honest, and not just because of the lack of "dancing bears" (indeed, thanks for that AG). Plug has numerous advantages over Soundrop: it's easier to moderate, everyone gets a fair turn at the tracks they want to play (the DJ queue system in plug being a lot fairer than the "hey let's add loads of tracks and vote things up" system which pretty much ensures that some folks tracks might not get played), the fact that you don't know which tracks are coming up next in plug makes things a lot more interesting, you can gauge a "crowd reaction" to a track you're playing much quicker in plug due to it's "woot"/"dancing bears" function (they're not just there to look pretty, it's part of the track rating system), the web application version of Soundrop seems to be buggy as fuck (whereas I've had ZERO problems with plug on this front)... and the points system/ranking/avatar thing makes the plug experience much more fun - Soundrop is very bland to look at.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:10 (thirteen years ago)

Besides, I like the whole visual aspect of plug too... I've often liked it when people have played old/rare TV performances in there, for example, or interesting oddities from Youtube that I never would have thought of searching for myself.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:14 (thirteen years ago)

personally i find the hassle of searching plug for youtube videos a total pain

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:17 (thirteen years ago)

Except that it's the easiest thing in the world?

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:21 (thirteen years ago)

personally I find soundrop's search function much easier plus you don't have to build your own playlists beforehand... but oh well. Sorry for my outburst, I will attempt to play nice with the new soundrop room rules & regs.

a giant death ray seems a bit overkill (Viceroy), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:27 (thirteen years ago)

also -- some people's tracks just don't deserve to get played, but if "being fair" is your #1 important thing I guess soundrop isn't really designed with that in mind.

a giant death ray seems a bit overkill (Viceroy), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:28 (thirteen years ago)

It's not that Soundrops search function is easier, there is no difference between the search function on Soundrop compared to that on Plug. You type in something, press enter and it searches in exactly the same way. The only difference is that the search function takes slightly less effort to access. I mean, what, it's a couple of extra clicks? It's not the most taxing of physical tasks... hardly, for example, moving a wardrobe from one end of a room to the other. I suppose if it's really getting to the stage where people can't motivate themselves to click a mouse here and there, the human race is surely fucked.

I've never built up a playlist while using Plug either... usually if there's a few people in the room, you can add tracks 'on the fly' while other tracks are playing, which is what I generally do. Easiest thing in the world.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:39 (thirteen years ago)

people havent been using plug. I gave up bumping it as noone was ever going in.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:42 (thirteen years ago)

Some people's tracks just don't deserve to get played, eh? Snobbish nonsense, and a load of bollocks. People should be fully entitled to play what they like. After all, if people are posting tracks they want to listen to, and others are giving those tracks a chance, then the favour should be returned in kind. "Being fair" is very important in a communal room, else you might as well just forget the whole fucking thing and just listen to what you want away from it all.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:43 (thirteen years ago)

Its so much easier to drag n drop songs from the playlists you already have on spotify. ILXors especially love their playlists and will find this part less time consuming. There's 8 people in the room just now.

People will go where everyone else is as seandalai says. He finds soundrop a bit easier and some dislike points and dancing bears and thinkits childish and hate the points "competition" which was why some outloud users refused to move to plug and of course and some love all that. But noones used plug for ages(you yourself quit plug and said you werent going back) and this seems more convenient as so many are using spotify anyway, but for those who refuse to use spotify they can use soundrop webapp which launched today that uses youtube instead but they still get the same chatroom and songs etc as those in spotify version.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:52 (thirteen years ago)

Not minded to get in a fight over this. Searching on Soundrop is easier if you know the Spotify catalogue well, searching on Plug is easier if you know what's on YouTube. I actually prefer not having the visual stuff. But ultimately I'll go where there are people playing tunes, and recently that hasn't been anywhere.

scintilla (seandalai), Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:53 (thirteen years ago)

some of us are on soundrop every day so its easier for us. We can go to the ilxor room if anyones around no problem. Theres lots of public rooms to use as well as user created rooms.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:57 (thirteen years ago)

and yeah since nobody has used plug for ages its been pointless trying to get anyone in there. I gave up bumping that thread.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

I couldn't deal with bears/busy interface of plug, and it felt like a waste of time to even try, but if this is better I might give it a whirl when my life settles, which will be a matter of weeks (that's good, better than months).
