well, you were the guy that said 3 years ago that CB would bounce back and be bigger than ever, and you were right.

oh I don't think Brown's gonna go away entirely, but the gaping mainstream media maw will just turn its ravenous attentions to feeding on a younger set once he's in his late 20s. as it always does when someone gets too old to appeal to the target demo.

that guy's not going anywhere for the next few years. he still has his "I am an ADULT" phase to go through, and that will be where he really makes assloads of money/gets tons of exposure. that will last a couple years, people will argue some more about whether he should be taken "seriously" as an "artist", then he will get too old to appeal to either gay men or hysterical little girls, and his turn in the spotlight will be more or less over and he will have to find some new outlet like showing up on SNL all the time or racing sports cars or something.

well the thing is now there's this weird ugly spiral of him being a bigger and bigger asshole, most people hating him more and more, and his fanbase feeling emboldened to champion even more, which makes his records bigger, which makes him act more entitled, etc etc etc. i suppose that cycle has to end at some point but it feels so self-perpetuating at the moment.

also where urban radio used to be really fickle and big stars would come and go in 2-3 years, now it feels like the same basic set of major stars has been going for the last 8 or so years straight with very minor changes in the lineup

hmmm yeah maybe the cycle's getting longer cuz the major labels are so much more risk-averse to promoting new acts

altho I dunno who are we talking about here besides Breezy - Rihanna, Gaga, Drake...? Gaga's really only been going for 5 years or so. Drake's been building up to his time in the spotlight for years what with the whole child-star-actor thing...

well i said 'urban radio' -- i was thinking mainly of the Jay/Kanye/Wayne/Usher/Beyonce/T.I. axis that's been dominant since '04 of earlier

somewhat new member of the club, still ascending, but i almost feel like he's still symptomatic of the general atmosphere of the industry -- he just hung around for years doing the same thing over and over until people got used to it

I was all "fuck that guy, and shame on the entertainment industry for welcoming him back with open arms" for the longest time. Then I read the actual police report and I was all "fuck that psychopath who's probably going to eventually wind up actually beating someone to death, and shame on the criminal justice system for not locking him up".

y'know after they've done songs together and she's told oprah she still loves him and on and on and on i don't know why people continue to whip themselves into a frenzy over the fact that rihanna doesn't hate chris or avoid him or whatever. it is what it is, for better or worse.
