Steven only appears on "Civil War" from the UYI albums.

my girlfriend heard me listening to "One in a Million" the other day. When the lines "Immigrants and faggots / They make no sense to me / They come to our country / And think they'll do as they please"
came on, she perked up and said matter-of-factly, "Faggots come from Faggotland." LOLZORS

Sigggghhhh. The two phrases relate to the two groups separately. It's a lyrical trick. The next line makes it clearer "Like start some mini-Iran, or spread some fucking disease."

... you realize your "defense" makes no sense and that followup just makes it seem even more like Axl thinks gay people come from another country, right

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Friday, 15 June 2012 18:23 (fourteen years ago)

The more I reflect on these lyrics, the more I realize that the sentiments perfectly articulate many of the preoccupations of modern day tea partiers: gays corrupting the moral underpinnings of society; blacks maintaining a threatening presence just by being in the presence of whites; malevolent middle easterners deliberately destroying the nation while taking umbrage under American laws; and a general sense of fear-induced xenophobia, with the narrator's yearning to just be left alone by everyone, almost like a separatist.

Poliopolice, Friday, 15 June 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

nothing in get in the ring is as cringeworthy as "what's so civil about war, anyway?" or "human grocery store, ain't that fresh"

two of the most embarrassing lines ever sung by anybody

decrepit but free (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Friday, 15 June 2012 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

i got some genuine imitation awesome lyrics, free sample, for aerosmith's peace o' mind only $9.95

Duff is a very underrated bass player too.

Sammy Hagar raises an eyebrow and steps up to the challenge.

"Get In The Ring" belatedly became one of my favorite GNR songs when i started revisiting UYI the last few years, it's so insanely catchy

do you think Axl meant police wear gold chains, too?

yes indeed. If Axl hadn't actually held a lot of the beliefs in the song I'd be more comfortable saying it's a masterpiece.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

Can't wait to see the biopic coming out with him played by Danny deVito:

it took me a while to see the horns.

j., Friday, 27 July 2012 17:13 (thirteen years ago)

You were not the only one, trust me.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 July 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

he wears gold chains with his bathrobe?

bajafreshnu orchestra (get bent), Friday, 27 July 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

doesn't everyone?

keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, 27 July 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

i think what that really means is that he wears the gold chains all the time. i mean he can't just put them on whenever he dons the bathrobe to go out to the ice machine, can he?

j., Friday, 27 July 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

maybe when he sang that he "don't wanna buy none of your gold chains today," it meant that he would come back tomorrow and buy them (and never take them off).

bajafreshnu orchestra (get bent), Friday, 27 July 2012 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

are you sure it's gold, what if it's, like, beads. of some spiritual kind.

j., Friday, 27 July 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

this photo validates john's original post.

it also makes we want to go back to bed.

thomp, Friday, 27 July 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

thomp, Friday, 27 July 2012 17:40 (thirteen years ago)

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 27 July 2012 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Gary Mayonnaise (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:04 (thirteen years ago)

You guys've been missing out on the revive of this:

Did you really feel "welcomed" to the jungle by axl rose, or do you think that was sort of just insincere, halfhearted graciousness?

Mule, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

I was about to say, late to the party here!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:12 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry, hard to keep track of all 30 GNR threads.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

Site New Answers, broheems

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:18 (thirteen years ago)

Broheems sadly underused these days. Kudos, HOTS.

:D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

No excuse. Lots of GNR threads. But which one is right!?!?!

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

the one that gets revived

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

I just posted the link upthread..?

Mule, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

So whichever GNR thread has been revived most recently becomes receptacle for all things GNR? Whatevs. I can work with that. Though I just assumed that cheeky thread title meant it was about Axl specifically, or "Welcome" specifically.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

Alright, no biggie. But since you posted a vid of Axl desperately attempting to sing his way through "Welcome..", I thought it would interest you that this particular video has been discussed in that partiular thread for a few days now.

Mule, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

Good to know! What else is being discussed in other threads, while we're here?

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

Well, forget it then. Didn't mean to start anything, though it seems I did..

Mule, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

I'm just joshing with you.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

Ok, we're good.

Mule, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

I, for one, am ashamed and disappointed in myself for participating in this revive. I'll be taking a brief respite for reflection and to spend time with my family. With Christ's help, I hope that I can avoid any further grievous lapses in judgment.

Gary Mayonnaise (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm going to pray on it, too.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

people on this site get up in arms about trivial shit a lot, i've noticed

Poliopolice, Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:41 (thirteen years ago)

no one got up in arms though? was just a friendly 'hey join the discussion here'

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)

I mean today, in this instance.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 25 October 2012 17:44 (thirteen years ago)

Just another disgusting instance of Axlsplaining imo.

Gary Mayonnaise (Old Lunch), Thursday, 25 October 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

Just Axl being an Axlhole.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 25 October 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)

Been listening to Appetite a bit lately. Nonbelievers, I think if you're willing to listen with new ears, you'll find a phenomenal album of surprising complexity and quality. I think there's only one song that doesn't completely kick ass ("anything goes"). The riffs are unstoppable.
