http://www.audioscrobbler.com/ has an update on the new features. Inc new charts and stuff. Which NIN seem to be dominating.
So it at least explains why it's been down so often.

New stuff / Sit-rep
Nine Inch Nails storm the Audioscrobbler charts! Looks like their new album is popular :)

We've been tuning the submission system this weekend. It's alive again now, and will start catching up. New accounts will be available once it's caught up.

Slight update to artist pages; now you can see the subtle difference between songs that get played the most, and songs that get played by the most people.

Artist-relation data has been updated again, see the explore music menu point, or the big fat search box on the homepage.

Moderations - the mod system has been removed as we are replacing it with a super-duper new MusicBrainz oriented mod system that will kick some serious ass.

Also being worked on at the moment:
- "Tagging" (flickr/delicious-esque)
- Native software player for Last.fm radio
- Proper album stats for Audioscrobbler
- Musicbrainz goodness, so we can use advanced relationship data etc. (click here for an example)
- More hardware, faster everything, cure for cancer.

It's because Abby McDonald started a thread about it. She posted it as a mystery mp3 on her blog and asked everyone to guess who it was.

I was wondering if the results of the 70s tracks poll will make any difference. I know I've been downloading (and listening to) a lot of them.

"Blank Generation" and "Heart of Glass" are both in the ILX Top 40 (tied for #38).

I want to use AudioScrobbler but I'm not sure if it will log all of my brother's crap music from anime films he watches.

I think you can manually turn the plugin on and off at will so that it only logs your music.

Isn't there some way that we can communally rig our playlists so that the main audioscrobbler page doesn't show the entire top ten as Coldplay songs? I just want to save the impressionable iTunes children of the world...

They have #11 too. And five or six more in the top 40.

it looks like that is mostly from the vitalic and basement jaxx remixes though.

I was surprised to see the New Pornographers dominating the tracks chart so thoroughly.

Chalk it up to the links to the entire album in downloadable format that popped up a week ago.

We'll listen to anything if it's free...

(Not a snipe at the New Pornographers, just saying.)

do you have to do something with the plug-in here besides download it? like "plug" it into the itunes application folder??? - an idiot.

or maybe it takes awhile for your songs to show up?

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

You have to set it as a start-up item in your user account settings. I'm assuming you're on OS X?

My audioscrobbler currently not updated because my PC is broke and I'm on my (hated) iBook and can't be faffed with that.

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

i'm on a pc. don't you have to tell itunes application to use the plug in somehow? its hard being dumb.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

hmmm... I've only used it with winamp, but if can you open/click on the plug in .exe?(I'm assuming it's a standalone program, not a script (not on PC anyway) what do you get?

Maybe you need to put your details in there (username/password) before it can register your tunes at the other end?

I couldn't find any faq's on their website, so maybe theres a text file which explains some of this (there is on mac) about, is it a .zip file?

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

oh i think i figured it out. i failed to install somehow (in other words i didnt' realize i had to install anything).

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

here's mine: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/tunecave/

i love how nothing is there (yet). i feel very pure.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Oddly, despite saying it doesn't, it *does* register CD's played sometimes - hence weird things like "Mr C & Omid 16 B" appearing in my list so high (a free V/A Mix CD from some music mag... everything on it registered as them).

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

well fuck it. its doesn't fucking work for me. i have the right plug-in but nothing. i'm listening to "short-haired woman's blues" right now and no one knows! i feel ignored.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Thursday, 7 July 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

Have you tried searching the Audioscrobbler forums?
Heres the itunes for MAC forum

Im sure a search there might find something.

ugh-problem solving. yeah you're probably right. i was just hoping it'd work instantaneously-like magic.

It'll be boring as hell for a while- I listen to most of my music on my CD player, since my laptop's speakers are miserable, and I have few mp3s at the moment since I'm still piecing my soulseek/shared files folder back together after a hd crash.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Friday, 8 July 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

I just joined but I screwed up and accidentally switched iTunes to repeat instead of shuffle and then I stepped away from my computer for a while. So right now it looks like I really like Hypnotic Tango.
