Also, I can totally believe that it's a synth but it's definitely not even a synthesized marimba sound.

I mean, it could be the melodic sensibility/phrasing that reminded me of Sting more than the technical details of the voice.

"We Are Young" is one of the worst singles of the decade. It just has this soul-sucking, tampon commercial soundtrack sounding vacuousness.

I'm sure there will come a time soon when I'll forget all about We Are Young. What's Up, however, hangs around like herpes. One of the shittiest songs ever bought and sold.

eh, i go months at a time without hearing "What's Up," would probably forget about it if people went a week without dwelling on how much it sucked. does it get played anywhere anymore, like even pop stations that play 90s Alanis songs or whatever?

I dunno if it does or not, but it's always lurking somewhere in my head ready to jump out and annoy me.

other friends just got back from brazil a few months ago and said theyve never been somewhere where a single song was so omni-present-- every car, open window, store p.a., bar-band was playing it wherever they went
