he career is a mess
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 June 2012 02:40 (fourteen years ago)
seems more like a rocky start.
― borntohula, Monday, 11 June 2012 03:28 (fourteen years ago)
Her "career" is about 8 months old
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 11 June 2012 15:50 (fourteen years ago)
is that why she has the maturity level of an 8-month-old baby?
― shipl.de.al (some dude), Monday, 11 June 2012 15:52 (fourteen years ago)
i imagine her antics will strengthen her image to her fanbase
as long as she returns to rapping lulz, which should happen in a week or so

well she signed to and resigned from XL in 2009 so she def seems to have some problems getting things off the ground w/o drama
― diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)
as much as i kmt at her antics the XL thing just endears her massively to me
― kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)
1991 EP is great, I want her album to be entirely house music with no concessions to anything else.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 14 June 2012 21:00 (fourteen years ago)
that's probably the best look possible for her yet still one i'm not even slightly interested in hearing
― they loooovin the crut (The Reverend), Friday, 15 June 2012 01:31 (fourteen years ago)
basically every song of hers has a nugget or two that could be refined into a great track, but her stuff just seems super all over the place right now, like she doesn't really know how she wants to sound. that in itself can be fruitful and it's also far from a death knell, but it's not helped by the hype pressure cooker/her switching management every two months/her hyping her music up to me much more than it is
― lamborghini persie (J0rdan S.), Friday, 15 June 2012 01:39 (fourteen years ago)
I'm content with her remaining a one song wonder.
― a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 15 June 2012 01:41 (fourteen years ago)
same. 212 was amazing but the rest has been kinda boring at best and completely execrable at worst (bambi)
― teledyldonix, Friday, 15 June 2012 06:25 (fourteen years ago)
I like 212
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 15 June 2012 06:30 (fourteen years ago)
I really like the 1991 EP, but who in the world decided on the sequencing? Why would you put a track that ends with complete silence and then some "hidden" stuff at number two? "Van Vogue" absolutely kills the momentum. Baffling decision not to put that one at the end.
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 15 June 2012 15:01 (fourteen years ago)
i was just listening to this. i feel like i shouldn't judge it hastily cuz "212" wasn't that immediate to me but it feels a bit slapdash. every time the title track starts it's a head-turner cuz i always think HNAG ON THAT'S MISSY but it sounds like a new missy demo or something.
nicki is waaaaaay off-base as a comparison
― kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 15 June 2012 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm not sure I really feel those Nicki comparisons, but people seem to struggle when they try to compare female rappers. They used to always get somehow compared to Missy, not that's Nicki's job to be the default comparison.
I really love this EP though, its pretty infectious.

I keep seeing this thread title and thinking it's going to be about Azalia Snail.
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 15 June 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)
Late for the show here but in that 212 video, the kind of facial expressions and stagey persona she puts puts on are no less "lol theater girl obviously" than the girl from Karmin. Azealia may have even more of a theater girl background from what I read.
― Cunga, Friday, 15 June 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)
"liquorice" video is really great
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPaXn2XR-P8
really like this EP now, her flow is pretty tightly packed and dense so it takes a while for her songs to arrange themselves in my head but once you start hearing the words they make a lot more internal sense
― star-spangled david banner (lex pretend), Tuesday, 19 June 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)
That video doesn't match the song at all. They're both cool when separated.
― Moka, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 04:21 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, good video
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 20 June 2012 04:21 (thirteen years ago)
I love that the production is more or less Old Skool Hardcore.
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Wednesday, 20 June 2012 15:29 (thirteen years ago)
idk that vid seems super awkward to me, doesnt at all present her natural appeal the way 212's did
not nearly as pronounced a balls up as nicki's 'massive attack' vid was but it's reminiscent all the same
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 15:39 (thirteen years ago)
bitches must be dreading a hit these days if they're gonna get driven out to wear outfits in the desert every time
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 15:42 (thirteen years ago)
SOoo, the new song is just the one which was around last year. "Riddim" is Lone's Pineapple Crush if anyone doesn't know.
― Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)
Ah, I see there's a whole EP. 1991 sounds OK.

Over an Ikonika this time. Shystie kinda runs rings round Azealia here.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)
that is amazing

I should admit to myself that I just don't like AB and stop trying
Shystie is kind of wau on this tho

Crazy weaves/twitter accounts aside, I like what she's doing musically. And yes, her rhyming skills are better than Missy's. I just hope she proves to be as innovative and entertaining over time.
― Cousin Slappy, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)
the heston jam is a nice idea but azealia's vocals are so weak&lazy

haha full disclosure i'd already half written an extended riff on cheri dennis and idk, letoya luckett eating rats and hiding from packs of coyotes behind boulders in the mojave before i saw i'd been xposted
― r|t|c, Tuesday, 10 July 2012 22:04 (thirteen years ago)
not sure the jackin flow that worked so well for AB on 212 really works on this track, tbh
that said it's a little weird that they gave up rapping 1/3 of the way through the track!

BEATS BY IKONIKA, O/W/W/W/L/S, MACHINEDRUM, EPROM, DRUMS OF DEATH, HUDSON MOHAWKE & NICK HOOK, LUNICE, & MUNCHI
