On which record can I find "point that Thing.."? It was amazing and seems like it went on for 10 plus minutes. Thanks.
― kwhitehead, Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:12 (fourteen years ago)
the album this thread's devoted to! or Anthology.
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:13 (fourteen years ago)
yeah. cool that they're doing things from Vehicle -- that album is so good.

All my favorite stuff on Anthology is from that album, but it's out of print. Is it worth tracking down a copy of the whole thing?
― rob, Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:59 (fourteen years ago)
damn, that is lame that it is out of print. merge or someone should re-ish it. iirc most of it is on anthology (it's a pretty short album), but anthology is missing the cool acoustic interludes.
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 June 2012 20:04 (fourteen years ago)
it also boasts one of their best covers.
― nerve_pylon, Thursday, 7 June 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)
by the way, de stijl is putting out here come the cars on vinyl and (i think) oddities too: http://destijlrecs.com/121.html
― tylerw, Thursday, 7 June 2012 20:09 (fourteen years ago)
oh now that's good news.
― nerve_pylon, Thursday, 7 June 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)
Vehicle is the Clean at its strummiest, sort of the best fusion of its sensibilities and that of the Bats.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 7 June 2012 20:43 (fourteen years ago)
Here Come the Cars is great.
it is! i just saw this recently, pretty coolhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiPC9YCUN9M

Fun gig in DC last night although the sound was not mixed that well. David Kilgour was wearing an upturned on the sides straw cowboy like hat this time, with Bob Scott wearing a fisherman's one. Seems like a similar set from the other night. An hour and 15 minutes or so. Lots of Neu-ish sounding cuts, one that reminded me of Wire, another kinda Bowie-like, plus some jangly ones.
― curmudgeon, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)
Thanks for the details. Bob was rocking the same look in NYC.
― kwhitehead, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:31 (fourteen years ago)
"Tally Ho" was again the last one before the encores. The Kilgours ranted about politics a bunch between a couple of songs. Dislike for Dubya and New Zealand's current head and the entire 2 party structure in the US of A
― curmudgeon, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)
haha! that's awesome. i still want to know if they played "at the bottom"
― game of crones (La Lechera), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
it's an instrumental, if that helps? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wux81gYHjQ
― game of crones (La Lechera), Friday, 8 June 2012 14:52 (fourteen years ago)
Hmmmm? Will have to check videos later when I have access to them.
― curmudgeon, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:53 (fourteen years ago)
i'm pretty sure they played it the other night in boston, but tbh the sound was so weird and david's guitar playing was so ...loose... i can't be certain.
― nerve_pylon, Friday, 8 June 2012 14:54 (fourteen years ago)
OH MAN I can't believe I'm missing these! ;_; x 1000000
― freebroheem (loves laboured breathing), Friday, 8 June 2012 15:05 (fourteen years ago)
yeah pretty sure they played "At the Bottom" in NYC toward the end of the set
I'm bad with their song titles
would have liked to hear "Beatnik"
― dmr, Friday, 8 June 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)
hope that some live tapes emerge!
― tylerw, Friday, 8 June 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)
I checked nyctaper but it looks like he was at another show that night
― dmr, Friday, 8 June 2012 21:10 (fourteen years ago)
sonofa!
― tylerw, Friday, 8 June 2012 21:17 (fourteen years ago)
maybe it'll show up on free music archive -- this thing is pretty great: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/David_Kilgour/Phoning_It_In_041005

anyone see 'em in chicago last night? friend said it was kind of a mess.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)
There's discussion of it on the Chicago thread.
― Immediate Follower (NA), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:33 (eleven years ago)
ah... sounds like kind of a bummer!
― tylerw, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:37 (eleven years ago)
Where?
― Evan, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:42 (eleven years ago)
That's a bummer, I read some interview recently with DK where he basically said that The Clean aren't likely to ever record again. When I saw them in 2010 they were fantastic.
― JoeStork, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:51 (eleven years ago)
Feel free to c/p my description from the other thread -- I'm on zing. The show was fun to talk about afterwards and started well, but kinda plopped rather than sizzled.
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:55 (eleven years ago)
I do wonder whether DK was playing so poorly bcz he was out of it, bcz he didn't give a shit or out of actual hostility to the crowd
― first is the worst (askance johnson), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:57 (eleven years ago)
Yeah i saw them in 2010 too, they were great but their songs do fall apart instead of end properly so I thought that was just their thing. On that point alone (referenced on the other thread).
― Evan, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 21:57 (eleven years ago)
fine if they don't feel compelled to make another record, but i guess I'd hope they at least enjoy playing together from time to time.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 22:02 (eleven years ago)
oh wait i saw them in 2007 i dunno what i was thinking
― JoeStork, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 22:06 (eleven years ago)
hereIt started off ok, DK had his back to the audience and was pretty far out with the solos, and then each song would just kinda plop at the end, right when I was hoping/expecting it would take off. This happened over and over, there were some comments about the president, drones, riots, and pleas for small talk between songs (Hamish seemed lucid and normal, Bob did too) and then around 10 they stopped playing, disappeared behind the curtain for a while (longer than usual) and then came back sans DK, who was nowhere to be found. An audience member got on stage and asked him to come back "You've inspired so many of us to play music, we want to hear you" and he never came back so that guy's friends sang/played Tally Ho with 2/3 of The Clean.
Hamish and Bob sounded good though! I got to see Hamish's rather weird drumming style.

Going to the Brooklyn show tomorrow night. I hope it's better. The LPR show a few years back was outstanding.
― kwhitehead, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 16:39 (eleven years ago)
But now that I recall, DK seemed a bit loopy that night as well. But they sounded great. Where can I see this "Chicago thread?"

and sweatband
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 18:33 (eleven years ago)
this is a bummer. they've become one of my favorite bands over the last couple of years and were pretty great in 2007 from what i recall. also strange why David is touring if he doesn't want to. these american shows don't seem to be a great money-maker?
― mizzell, Wednesday, 20 August 2014 18:46 (eleven years ago)
i forgot to mention that there was one point where either bob or hamish said something like "you don't understand us anyway" or something to that effectthat was the only moment that genuinely bummed me outotherwise it just didn't live up to my (admittedly high) expectations
i also think their first song was PTTSE and the played Fish later but who cares
― cross over the mushroom circle (La Lechera), Wednesday, 20 August 2014 18:54 (eleven years ago)
I went with little/no expectations having not seen 'em before and had a blast. Sloppy and snippy and short as it was, it's impossible to argue with that rhythm section and even a cranky David Kilgour is still fantastic. Loved the encore, too!
― john. a resident of chicago., Thursday, 21 August 2014 02:08 (eleven years ago)
Let me just say that both Kilgour brothers' new albums are excellent. Still need to hear the new Robert Scott.
― tylerw, Thursday, 21 August 2014 02:17 (eleven years ago)
Is that the duets album?
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 21 August 2014 13:11 (eleven years ago)
I'm going to the show tonight too, can't wait. I saw another Hamish band in a garage in 2008 or so and it ruled
