i feel ever more certain there is no greater transcendent, fizzing joy in this world than 'dami duro'

and its prologue
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ0XDkdwc9w
like how many of these ganky rictus-featured 'i gotta feeling' type getting ready for friday nite tunes you hear EVER make you feel anything but cattle-herded, co-opted, dead meat? 'what u wanna do' asks one simple, open, momentary question over and over and kaleidoscopically over until eyes bulge and pupils dilate bright black with every endless neon possibility stretching out before you, like the two big bang atoms colliding, imploring and demanding existence floods the void
― r|t|c, Saturday, 9 June 2012 12:01 (fourteen years ago)
Wait so has Naija pop actually found a use for hands-in-the-air fake Guetta house that is not only not hateful but actually conveys the joy that yr Euro or American hacks *think* they're getting at? I feel like another bit of the source code of pop has been cracked or something.
― Matt DC, Saturday, 9 June 2012 12:07 (fourteen years ago)
Like maybe the producers realising rhythms other than 4/4 thud might actually work with eurohouse cheese or maybe its just that the dead-eyed cynicism you expect from purveyors of gigantic filterdisco chords is conspicuous by its absence.

that dami duro joint is banging but also soooo poorly mixed :( its like i have to imagine how it would sound on a dancefloor if it were well mastered. the amazon mp3 sounds like a ripped youtube stream

this thread needs a spotify playlist like yesterday
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 11 June 2012 20:37 (fourteen years ago)
hey i said its a cool song. i just wish the mix didn't all bleed together. look at it from the POV of a DJ who is trying to work w/ an unweildy crowd unfamiliar with the music (& i don't even mean diplo at a trendy club but like, the people who are at the front lines of spinning this stuff) & its just that much harder to convince a crowd of a song's worth when it doesn't have presence. there's a subconscious bias from NORMALS against shittily mastered songs when they haven't had them hammered into their brains already by radio or what have u

Ah...Wizkid. No Lele is the one that hooked me on afrobeat after hearing it as the opening track on that abrantee tape. Such an amazing intro (to both the song and the sound)

― Benny B, Monday, 11 June 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)
seriously the intro to that tune just slays me every single time. Those tumbling drum rolls and glorious unfolding melody.
― Benny B, Monday, 11 June 2012 23:06 (fourteen years ago)
just checked Dami Duro, wow. Rushiest thing I've heard for ages. Will try not to spoil this one by overplaying it, this is uncommonly powerful stuff.
― Benny B, Monday, 11 June 2012 23:11 (fourteen years ago)
ok i made a spotify playlist of some of the songs mentioned on this thread. of course you guys' unassailable forward-thinking means many great songs aren't there, but it's something

More Wizkid:

This one is pretty brazen in its use of girly trance chords, military snares AND borderline irritating Pon De Floor synths all at once.

Also amazing.
lol Matt you could have just said ATTN DJP

there is a 'murder' remix with cecile and leshurr you will probs enjoy more still
rob's mentioned it a few times iirc
― r|t|c, Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:28 (thirteen years ago)
yeah i heard that too, idk i like leshurr on it but lioness feels a bit tacked on and it was kind of perfect as it was
― kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 14 June 2012 10:35 (thirteen years ago)
aw, admittedly most of the guests bring their C game lyrically, but that song reminds me pleasantly of middle school gymnasium dances soundtracked by En vogue and Salt n Pepa. the verses are charmingly artless and unthreatening.
I'm going to have to stay inside all summer to catch up on this thread.

btw the "level up" sunship remix is SO AMAZING! i mean the chorus only but it's so good you don't care about sway
― kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 15 June 2012 17:52 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, dimly remember something like that (ron trent/badu) but now i see he did like 5 mixes so i shall have to reinvestigate
am no sway lover either but he deserves massive, massive credit for doing separate flows & lyrics for each of the 'level up' remixes - sunship mix is really good but the blame dnb mix with leshurr is still my fave for the way the song's completely switched up into a relationship angst duet (ie time for sway to level up as a boyfriend)
― r|t|c, Friday, 15 June 2012 18:07 (thirteen years ago)
best nu-sunship mix is probs still the alyssa reid 'alone again' one imo, and then maybe the one for ny 'music'
they don't half churn them out though
also if i were mike delinquent i would seriously fucked off with sunship blatantly stealing his pattern lock stock (hi-nrg synth stabs aside perhaps), like totally sue those fuckers fucked off
― r|t|c, Friday, 15 June 2012 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
i like the new Major Lazer single a lot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI3shBXlqsw
― breastcrawl, Friday, 15 June 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)
Isn't what sunship are doing on these just what they were doing a decade ago with their mis-teeq remixes etc?
(No bad thing just re: ownership)
― kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Friday, 15 June 2012 21:10 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah Sunship and Delinquent is like that episode in Degrassi Junior High where Stephankie Kaye gave all her hot clothes away to some formerly b-lister girl who promptly got super-popular, and Stephanie was like "fuck that shit" and started wearing hot clothes again.
"Alone Again" is best.

xp i was being a little more specific than just "having a general stranglehold on ukg remixes right now", ie some of sunship's new moves are exactly mike delinquent's
neither match up in either form or quality to old sunship stuff if you ask me
― r|t|c, Monday, 18 June 2012 16:34 (thirteen years ago)
Agreed but that's a very high bar.
