review of nominations and VOTING for (very nebulously defined) ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s

i am gonna set an arbitrary deadline at 50 ballots

so how many ballots are we at right now? also i wish that spotify thing worked where i live cos i'd love to hear all those nominated tracks i don't know !

they'll also be the ones that get most votes (mouth to mouth, orbitalife) - records that really blow up and then disappear, it isn't because they're no good its because they tend to dominate, and then disrupt the flow of a set once they get heard a lot

Both of these records are too recent though - you need about a 10yr period of grace before they start to reappear. FWIW I don't think either of these records are that great, nor will they appear particularly high up the poll (Mouth to Mouth might place somewhere, I doubt many ppl care that much about Orbitalife at this stage in the game).

mund zu mund is totally the superior, but tragically overlooked, younger sibling.

I figure there's also a bunch of sometime ILM posters who are authorities on the subject and whose contributions would be invaluable (e.g. d.l3one p.sh3rburne) but probably don't know this poll exists.

Who was Pipecock again? I remember the name being mentioned a few years ago, but I've no idea why his opinion is so important?

He's a resident advisor writer, blogger and DJ who is known for his strong support of American artists and labels like Omar S, Jus Ed, FXHE and Underground quality. He was always the nicest poster and was banned for an argument with Local Garda that got a little too personal.

Wasn't always, man I'm bad with the typoes lately.

A lot of the music Pipecock rates is great, but his Internet persona really grates as he seems to instinctively dismiss a lot of music because it doesn't fit into his rules. He's probably popped up on all forums at some point, posted for a while, got into a fight with some regulars and then left.

in short, he's a purist of the highest order.

I would have voted for "Synkro" over "Tessio" but I always forget that those singles didn't come out until the same year as the album; such promptness is so unusual in dance music.

i would vote for synkro over tessio too. i also want to vote for lots of other stuff that isn't on the list (PELE BLOSS??) but i didn't nominate anything so sucks to be me i guess.

I think something funny happened when I copy and pasted everything into the google doc. As mentioned above some stuff went missing (including, I should note, some of my own noms). That shouldn't stop people from including things, though.

i think this is because of some discussion in the nom's thread about trying to steer clear of edits for this poll, though there are loads of exceptions that snuck through

i prob would have nom'd some idjuts otherwise

tbf i don't think the idjuts have really been working in "house" mode for awhile now unless you count the (sporadic / rare / obscure) droid EPs

there are probably parts of "puddle & spout" that are at least as house-ish as a kdj or theo track but i wasn't gonna nominate some obscure shit that wasn't going to get any votes
