anyway i clearly don't know what i'm talking about so i should just shut up.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

i think you could have been clubbing in alabama pretty solidly for a long time and never heard the frankie knuckles remix of "blind" out

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

haha that's true.

Fas Ro Duh (Gukbe), Sunday, 3 June 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

ftr i think you know what you're talking about but i also think that your experience has to do w/ your personal relationship w/ dance music and indie music, and that the same is true for just about anybody, and it's not your fault, all of these ideas like continuity, familiarity, etc are basically dependent on the listener and don't have any meaning in and of themselves in a vacuum

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 20:03 (fourteen years ago)

in other words this is a hermeneutic problem, not one that we could fix by looking at charts or tracklistings or playlists

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)

i really wish it didn't have to be ranked :/

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 3 June 2012 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

its all fun and games until i have to name something "the best electronic dance track of the 00s"

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 3 June 2012 21:35 (fourteen years ago)

eh just fucking whittle em down by desert island disc ... "this one or that one" and the one that you pick moves "up" on the list ... you keep doing that until you're happy w/ the list. it's like voting for politicians. in the end it just comes down to the one you feel better about with your hand hovering over the ballot, and the snap decision makes as much sense as anything else.

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 21:40 (fourteen years ago)

hm, yeah, that's a good method, tournament style.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 3 June 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

that's how i did it

it's kind of like an endless tournament though ... every time i switch two i gotta start again

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 22:06 (fourteen years ago)

i'm doing it where there is a reigning champion and each challenger goes down the list until it beats one

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Sunday, 3 June 2012 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

exactly

the late great, Sunday, 3 June 2012 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

The Reverend, Monday, 4 June 2012 04:56 (fourteen years ago)

i voted!

The Reverend, Monday, 4 June 2012 06:59 (fourteen years ago)

Durr it would be sort of tragic if you inspired this poll and then didn't vote in time, no pressure though.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 4 June 2012 09:00 (fourteen years ago)

I got my shortlist down to 48 with only another 30-40 on my remaining longlist by 6.30 today

┗|∵|┓ (sic), Monday, 4 June 2012 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

the German dacks dropped 2.3 per cent (haitch), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

is this over or not?

viborg, Monday, 4 June 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

I was on vacation. Some great nominations up there that are new to me:

Rekid - Next Stop Chicago

Martyn - Seventy Four (Redshape Mix)

mala - anti war dub
instra:mental - end credits

viborg, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

I promise to submit a ballot in the next 12 hours if polls are still open today.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

Gonna submit my ballot by tomorrow, promise.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 4 June 2012 16:03 (fourteen years ago)

Emmanuel Jal - Kuar (Henrik Schwarz Remix)

Pfft. Damn.

viborg, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:18 (fourteen years ago)

i am gonna set an arbitrary deadline at 50 ballots

"50 ballotz stands for 1 ballot from every state of the USA, all them ballotz would be stronger than every weapon, if they would be united - THUG LIFE"

the late great, Monday, 4 June 2012 16:51 (fourteen years ago)

so how many ballots are we at right now? also i wish that spotify thing worked where i live cos i'd love to hear all those nominated tracks i don't know !

Jibe, Monday, 4 June 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

youtube has a ton of them

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Monday, 4 June 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

they'll also be the ones that get most votes (mouth to mouth, orbitalife) - records that really blow up and then disappear, it isn't because they're no good its because they tend to dominate, and then disrupt the flow of a set once they get heard a lot

Both of these records are too recent though - you need about a 10yr period of grace before they start to reappear. FWIW I don't think either of these records are that great, nor will they appear particularly high up the poll (Mouth to Mouth might place somewhere, I doubt many ppl care that much about Orbitalife at this stage in the game).

Matt DC, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:19 (fourteen years ago)

i have 34 ballots at this point ... we're going to next sunday (one week extension) goal is 50 posts

"mouth to mouth" is placing pretty high on my ballot i think

the late great, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

though i prefer "mund zu mund" these days

the late great, Monday, 4 June 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

mund zu mund is totally the superior, but tragically overlooked, younger sibling.

I figure there's also a bunch of sometime ILM posters who are authorities on the subject and whose contributions would be invaluable (e.g. d.l3one p.sh3rburne) but probably don't know this poll exists.

Hennesy Williams (EDB), Monday, 4 June 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

we gotta pound the pavement a bit, webmail the usual suspects

OTOH if they were interested in ILM you'd think they'd have seen it buy now

the late great, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)

but they are records that disappear is the point....not when they reappear, but the fact that they disappear

many votes on chart will be based on memories, mouth to mouth will place highly

coal, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

prefer i speak for some of that

coal, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:57 (fourteen years ago)

whereas a record like fifth element prob never got overplayed in same way and never really dropped away often hear that played out

coal, Monday, 4 June 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know why I'm the only one having trouble making sense of this:

over 1000 nominations

50 votes each

So in one ballot we should include as many nominations as we want (up to 1000)? And then we choose our top 50 from all of the nominations from everyone? Sorry for being dense.

viborg, Monday, 4 June 2012 23:49 (fourteen years ago)

we already nominated, just pick your 50 favorites and rank them

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 5 June 2012 00:41 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty skimpy list :(

There are no entries matching high contrast

My fault for missing the nominations of course.

viborg, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 02:29 (fourteen years ago)

what if I ask pipecock to vote? I talk to him now and then.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

think we can do without that, tbh

the German dacks dropped 2.3 per cent (haitch), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 05:26 (fourteen years ago)

pipecock would have nominated some good records

coal, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 06:20 (fourteen years ago)

tell him to send a ballot down the pipe

coal, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 06:33 (fourteen years ago)

Who was Pipecock again? I remember the name being mentioned a few years ago, but I've no idea why his opinion is so important?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 5 June 2012 06:41 (fourteen years ago)

He's a resident advisor writer, blogger and DJ who is known for his strong support of American artists and labels like Omar S, Jus Ed, FXHE and Underground quality. He was always the nicest poster and was banned for an argument with Local Garda that got a little too personal.
