Two more songs, and we'll have as many tracks as the White Album.

Also, from the first four albums (UK), we have only ONE song claimed.

I've already bitten off more than I can chew.

Matt M., Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:09 (fourteen years ago)

I've been a little intimidated myself, even though I haven't even officially picked a song. Crüt's link up there, about which chords with which songs and the arrangements and the oh my makes me feel like I'm going to try to re-write Shakespere.

Just gotta remember that no one's going to top the most successful band in history with a four-track in their bedroom. I sure as hell hope that no one notices that I can't play a minor chord on my bass. None of that was our intention going into this anyway, I don't think.

pplains, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

yeah this is basically going to be me setting aside an hour or two and seeing what happens. and whatever happens, you all will have to listen to!

tylerw, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 14:17 (fourteen years ago)

Good Lord, I just forced myself to listen to that Phish White Album show for the first time and I think ILX is going to be just fine with this.

two weeks pass...

I'm keeping an eye out for any two or more songs that sync together. For example, if someone claims "Mean Mr. Mustard" and someone else gets "Polythene Pam", I'll let those two ILXors know about the other.

27 songs and holding for now.

Just got the first submission.

After hearing it, I am so much more psyched for this comp.

pplains, Monday, 25 June 2012 20:18 (thirteen years ago)

l been busy on my track, need to redo the lead guitar break to my satisfaction, then it's all about the mix..

Mark G, Monday, 25 June 2012 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

iirc I am in on this thing and have confirmed studio time!

Everyone's got plenty of time. One ILXor just beat the crowd early.

They didn't even try to pass that other guy off as Eric Clapton or Klaus Voorman.

pplains, Monday, 9 July 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

The second submission was sent last week. I can't wait to line these up and hear them all together.

Here's a list of albums that haven't been represented yet by ILXors:

PLEASE PLEASE ME
WITH THE BEATLES
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT
PAST MASTERS I

Still plenty of choices from the other albums too. Let me know which one you want to do. ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com

two weeks pass...

submission sent!

epistantophus, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 13:50 (thirteen years ago)

Tickled pink about the tracks I've heard so far.

Remember, you've got another four months to claim a song (12/1) and five months (1/1) to get the song sent to me. The comp will be released to the world in Feb. 2013.

I still haven't picked mine out yet. I'll think of one, spend a month working it out in my head, get bored, move on to another one.

ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com

pplains, Tuesday, 31 July 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I'm a little late, but I just noticed a new submission from earlier this month.

Not a song claim, but the entire song itself!

Fortunately, no one had staked it yet and anyway, it's been the highlight of my morning.

I would still advise you to claim a song first to make sure we don't have any repeats. Still lots of time.

ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com

pplains, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

just had a little jam session with a drummer friend in the basement where we tried out an arrangement of my beatles tune. needs some work, but it'll be good!

tylerw, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 15:30 (thirteen years ago)

and when i say "good" feel free to read that as "Better Than The Beatles"

tylerw, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

one month passes...

Tomorrow is the 72nd birthday for John Lennon. Next up on the birthday calendar will be George's 70th in February.

http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/2695/beatleswhen64775101.jpg

And that's also the day that the ILX Beatles Comp will be released to the world.

So far, we've got 29 songs claimed. We've even got four tracks finished and already sent in.

Here are the deadlines coming up: Dec. 1 will be the last day to claim a song. We're doing this privately, so email your claim to ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com. I'll only be able to honor the claims that come in through that email address.

Give me three requests. You'll get your top request as long as no one else has claimed it first. I'll confirm your request, usually within a day or so, if not the hour.

After Dec. 1, no more claims will be accepted. The next deadline will be Jan 1 to get your recorded track sent in.

And then on Feb. 25, we'll have our big release party online.

So again, tell me what song you want to do at ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com. The more the merrier, a splendid time guaranteed for all.

Mark G, Monday, 8 October 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)

Any chance of a sneak peek at the track listing?

I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Monday, 8 October 2012 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

my new band just tried out our contribution yesterday...it sounded prettay prettay good. it also may have been ten minutes long.

tylerw, Monday, 8 October 2012 15:19 (thirteen years ago)

Any chance of a sneak peek at the track listing?

Here are the original albums that are represented so far. (Doesn't represent every song submitted though.)

Beatles For Sale
Help!
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt. Pepper
Magical Mystery Tour
White Album
Yellow Submarine
Abbey Road
Let It Be

So if you're hankering for a Please Please Me cover, the floor is all yours.

pplains, Monday, 8 October 2012 15:58 (thirteen years ago)

I'll also add that the white album is the most-represented so far. Of course, it has 30 songs on it, so there's plenty to pick from.

There's almost a small dark part of me that wishes we could've just done that album instead of everything, but it's better to have more to pick from and besides, I didn't want to seem like I was ripping off Phish.

Has anyone done "Your Mother Should Know"?

make like a steak and beef (dog latin), Thursday, 25 October 2012 09:23 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't even started work on mine yet - it's been so long since i've made any recordings and am so unfamiliar with modern multitrack recording software.

What cheap or free multitrack recording app should I use? I have a 4-year-old Windows 7 laptop and a iPod touch 4, plus some guitars and keyboards.

Lee626, Thursday, 25 October 2012 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

Check out Reaper, it works as freeware and bugs you only once - on starting - to register, and it's dead cheap if you do register. It's not got pretty knobs or anything, but is a great piece of software for recording, you can make it as simple or complex as you like.

Got it!

If anyone wants to request a song, send your dibs to ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com. Only way I can keep track of everything.

Dec. 1 the last day for submitting your claims. Jan. 1 the last day to send in your final recording.

pplains, Thursday, 25 October 2012 13:27 (thirteen years ago)

I'm taking off the week of Thanksgiving specifically to work on my song

Gandalf’s Gobble Melt (DJP), Thursday, 25 October 2012 13:28 (thirteen years ago)

One month from today (Dec. 1) to let me know which song you want to do.

Two months until all submissions need to be sent in.

The rough guidelines, once more with feeling:

Here are the rough guidelines:

• Like other ILX comps, send your song as an MP3, WAV or FLAC. If you would rather work out some sort of dropbox deal, let me know in an email. The email address for all correspondence is ilx.beatles.compATgmailºcom. Only claims to this email address will be accepted.

• Unlike other comps where we claim our songs in this overview thread, let’s keep the songs we’re covering private. That way, when we release the comp, it can be a big surprise. I’ve got grandiose plans of releasing two versions - one in which the tracks are separated and named, and one “LOVE” version, where all tracks are mixed together into one big beautiful monstrosity.

Send me the name of the song you want to do as well as a second and third choice. First come, first served. I'll get back with you on what's been taken/not taken.

And if you let loose with which song you’re going to do, no worries. You’re just not going to get any revelations from me.

• Only songs performed by the Beatles and released originally by the Beatles will be accepted. No Badfinger, no Wings, no Wilburys, no “Besame Mucho”. If the song you want to cover is “Twist & Shout”, that’s fine since it was released on Please Please Me. I would encourage submissions to be written by Lennon, McCartney, Harrison or Starkey, but if the group thought it was a good idea to release their version of “Boys”, then who can I be to say we shouldn’t either.

Even though Anthology was an official release, I’d prefer we stay away from songs such as “All Things Must Pass” or “Teddy Boy” which were released later as a solo effort.

About to hit the two-week mark before we close the book on claiming songs for the comp. Dec. 1 is the deadline for emailing which song you'd like to record at ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail.com.

The deadline for sending in your recorded material isn't until Jan. 1, 2013.

Remember, the recorded tracks don't have to be in until Jan. 1. I'm just asking for anyone to claim a song to record before Dec. 1.

pplains, Monday, 26 November 2012 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

xp maybe he can request it during shellac's set, and then your contribution can be the recording of albini berating him for doing so.
