review of nominations and VOTING for (very nebulously defined) ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s

The thing with a theme like this, unlike a single-artist poll, is that there are so many factions - there are producers, labels, even genres I've ignored entirely and I'm sure that will be the case for a lot of voters, so you need a certain number of voters before any meaningful overlap will occur. I can see most of my tracks dying a lonely death if there are less than 20 ballots.

at some point I had to stop splitting hairs between adjacent tunes out of the 50 and hope for approx current favour/ranking within around 10 spots, except for the all important Top 5/Top 10. loved hearing (relistening to) many of these tunes again!

i'll have one in within the next couple of hours. surprisingly happy with it. ps. midi rain 'always' was a biggish revival tune for ellen allien amongst others but is from like 1991.

ok here is something i am thinking - in the meantime, could we crowd-source the composer and label for each track?

then we could also tabulate top artists and top labels

For whatever it's worth, even though I'm a fan of Avalanches/Basement Jaxx/Daft Punk/The Knife/LCD Soundsystem, I'm probably gonna leave that stuff off.

I've got swept up in a lot of stuff this week I didn't count on. I can still dash one off but it won't be as considered as I'd like. So yes, an extension if at all possible.

I kind of hate Mathew Jonson, but I'm finding it really hard to remove Marionette from my list, despite it being a completely joyless experience to dance to.

Removing it 'cause I've got so many Cobblestone Jazz tracks in there and I much prefer those to dance to.

Surely anyone who's interested in the poll can write down a list of 50 tracks over one weekend? It took me like 30 minutes to come up with my ballot.

I have to say I don't really see the point in posting in a poll like this if you're not interested in spending some time listening to tracks you are unfamiliar with, but I guess people have their own reasons.

I'm having enough trouble whittling down the tracks I loved at the time to worry about taking on new ones.

More fun to discover things in the countdown imo.

Matt OTM. I see absolutely no point in diligently plugging through hundreds of nominations and then attempting to weigh up new discoveries against tunes you've loved for years. That's what the roll out is for. I don't like polls to feel like homework.

I do both. I voted based on tunes I already know, but I intend to wade through the entirety of the spotify list to find tunes I like that I hadn't heard before.

Basically if I felt obliged to check out every nomination I would never vote. I tried it with the hip hop tracks but I was ploughing through them at such a rate that I underrated tracks which only really hit me when they featured in the countdown. I don't like to feel like I'm just harvesting music en masse. But obviously everyone approaches these things differently.

i know everyone hates him now but it's a terrible oversight that the supermayer remix of gotye's heart's a mess isn't among the nominees.

I just find Jonson's solo tracks too austere and joyless, and more than a bit over fussy.

voted (first time ever in one of these big ILM polls). after spending weeks slowly narrowing it down to 50 I found it almost impossible to sensible order them outside the top 10 or so. doubtless I'll be kicking myself about that once the rundown starts.
