actually, maybe not.

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:11 (fourteen years ago)

well, the head is ok, it's actually the body that is causing me confusion

Poliopolice, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 20:11 (fourteen years ago)

so do you guys think after he washes up he'll be semi-normal, or that he'll be totally fucked up? He actually seems like he's got a reasonably good head on his shoulders, comparatively speaking.

he seems like a twerp to me, but a boring one with level-headed people around him, so who knows

Hungry4Ass, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:28 (fourteen years ago)

I expect he will found a videogame company that will attempt to publish a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

Ironically, I see a lot of weed and titty bars in his future.

Look at how funky he is! (jer.fairall), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 21:32 (fourteen years ago)

there's no reason his career shouldn't look like britney or timberlake's did after they turned 18

his legend will also be based on "the bloody sock" moment.

there's no reason his career shouldn't look like the dozens of other teen stars who couldn't maintain the level of fame those 2 did, too

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 01:11 (fourteen years ago)

i mean expecting bieber to have the same career arc as timberlake just because that's what he's blatantly being groomed to do is like expecting ja rule to eventually have a discography equal to 2pac

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 01:13 (fourteen years ago)

His flow is slower than prostate cancer.

i could totally see him going off the rails a la britney if his management wasn't so tight -- still may happen cuz he seems to have a small rebellious streak

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:27 (fourteen years ago)

timberlake is a high bar tho -- there's nothing really to suggest that bieber has that kind of songwriting talent, for instance -- he's supposedly some writing on this album and the songs are definitely impressive but if he ever puts out an album 75% as good as 'futuresex/lovesounds' i'd be floored

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:28 (fourteen years ago)

i think he could have a pretty rewarding career as a singles artist whose albums are half pretty good, half total nonsense -- but he's still far, far away from his mid-20s

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

I know nothing about the dude, but does he work with any auteur producers, or just hitmaker hacks? JT's smart move was hooking up with Neptunes and Timba at the peak of their powers (more or less). He had an ambitious eye for quality. The Bieb seems to be all about product right now, which is the safe move. But he's also really stupid young.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:45 (fourteen years ago)

(Though even my 7-year old and her friends make fun of him, so who knows what that portends)

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:46 (fourteen years ago)

well, even with songwriting credits on No Strings Attached it was still impossible to recognize Justin the polymath we know today.

he has a mix on this album -- guys like darkchild, hit-boy, bei major, diplo, so it's not exactly a katy perry album

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 02:48 (fourteen years ago)

his lead single was written by this fuckin guy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKoFGDLW7mg

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:01 (fourteen years ago)

i don't really understand j0rdan's Katy Perry contrast, unless he somehow things Stargate, Dr. Luke and Tricky Stewart are somehow more hacky/less auteur-like than Hitboy or Bei Major

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:04 (fourteen years ago)

i don't exactly think hit-boy and bei major are geniuses or something, but they're more auteur than stargate and dr. luke

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:08 (fourteen years ago)

Dr. Luke is a much stronger parallel to 2002 Neptunes than those dudes

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:10 (fourteen years ago)

i mean i don't necessarily agree w/ josh's premise entirely, but it's a mildly interesting and adventurous tracklist -- but i'd say the same for usher's new album, idk

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:10 (fourteen years ago)

how many major label albums can have a diplo production credit before that ceases to be shorthand for 'adventurous'

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:12 (fourteen years ago)

oh, i don't really give a shit about diplo, but his a&r people def stepped further out of the box than i would've expected.

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:14 (fourteen years ago)

i mean, look, it's not like 'justified' was that adventurous either, for the record -- working with tim and the neptunes wasn't exactly novel

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno if you'd asked me a year ago who was gonna work on this album i probably would've said frank ocean and no i.d. (xpost)

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 03:18 (fourteen years ago)

ya you might be right

as long as you LUH-LUH-LUH-LUH-LUH-LUH-LOVE ME

bitch I'm on the 242 (lex pretend), Friday, 22 June 2012 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

idk, the album doesn't often rise above this minimal "just ok" level for me. it just kinda plods along with its competent-but-sorta-limp hooks, edm-y beats and diaphanous lyrics and doesn't hit much of a stride for the most part. and the title track is just embarrassing, i can't even put myself through it again.

(i love how mere seconds after i thought, "wow, his voice sounds unusually annoying here" during "right here" drake entered the track and instantly one-upped him in that regard.)

that said, i do like a number of the songs on this album -- "boyfriend", "thought of you" (which i would say does actually 'hit a stride'), "catching feelings" (which appropriately enough is one of the only tracks that actually captures a ~feeling~ for me, however uncomplicated), "as long as you love me"

i'm sure many people will like it (including people who never liked anything he did before) but i'm not even sure this is even negligibly better than his previous material

teledyldonix, Friday, 22 June 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)

nicki minaj's verse is oddly beautiful to me despite the lol-worthy wiener/selena rhyme. love love love her delivery. JUSTIN - BIEBER!

"take you" and "catching feelings" are my other highlights, as well as the first 3 tracks which i already knew were all A+

uberweiss, Saturday, 23 June 2012 01:29 (thirteen years ago)

they kinda leaked all the best songs early, also bonus tracks > over half the shit on the album

the first six or so songs are awesome... "catching feelings" is the one ballad that is almost borderline acceptable
