Or is it like, one submission per ILX username?

billstevejim, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

I'm prolly not gonna do this, but I was just wondering.

billstevejim, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, for now, we're just going to take one submissions per ILX user. No socks.

Beginning June 1, I'll take submissions at ilx.beatles.compatgmaildotcom. (Trying to avoid setting off the email filter here.)

From then until Dec. 1, you can stake your claim on what title you're recording. You have until 1/1/13 to submit the finished track.

I don't know off the top of my head how many Beatles songs we're talking about here. At least 120. If we get anything close to that before 12/1, I'll certainly alert everyone on this thread. I will also likely shit my pants.

So if we clear your submission a week from tomorrow, you record it and get it ready over the weekend, and then send it to me on Monday, June 4, you're good.

If we clear your submission on 11/30 and you have it back to me by 12/31, then again, we're good.

You don't have to claim your song on June 1 and you don't have to wait until 1/1 to send it in. The only incentive to get in your stakes early is to take advantage of the "first-come, first-serve" procedure here.

I'm going to add a track to this, but I'm going to wait until the last minute, so I don't claim a song over anyone else.

pplains, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

I would love to hear multiple versions of the same song, myself.

Trey Imaginary Songz (WmC), Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

no medleys or intra-beatles mashups allowed then? like elanor rigby lyrics over daytripper riff?

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

If multiples exist, they must be performed in different keys. You know, to keep it interesting for the listener. Get those capos warmed up.

andrew m., Thursday, 24 May 2012 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

I agree that multiple versions would sound cool, but I'm more interested in covering a lot of ground, seeing what songs get taken first, and how it's going to sound when it's put all together. You really want to hear six versions of "Helter Skelter" in that Love mix?

But that said, if someone wants to go all Beatallica and throw in a few riffs from other songs into their mix, that's cool. Lord knows the Beatles themselves pulled that trick a couple of times. Just as long as it's under the umbrella of one song title.

So yeah. No one gets to claim Stars on 45.

pplains, Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

i'll do this, have no idea what song

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

Ooh, i wanna do "Wild Honey Pie"!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, crap, sorry guys. Just jumped to the bottom w/o reading.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

I have a Beatles cover I made 20 years ago, one of the few surviving tapes I have from that long ago, that I just listened to for the first time in eons. I recalled it being a rather dull, straightforward cover. I forgot it featured a cheap vintage keyboard simulating a guitar and a Roland 808 in lieu of Ringo. Would you all rather have this or a newly made recording?

Lee971 (Lee626), Saturday, 26 May 2012 05:57 (fourteen years ago)

I could get into this. See if I can recruit my gf for vox....

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Saturday, 26 May 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

As long as no one claims the song first and you're the one who made the recording, the cover can be 100 years old for all that it matters.

pplains, Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:08 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah dude go for the vintage recording!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:20 (fourteen years ago)

I'm in I'm in I'm in, I need to record this summer

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:24 (fourteen years ago)

I'm in on this sucker as well.

Radical Jedward (snoball), Saturday, 26 May 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

I'm asking for claims and submissions (I feel like an insurance adjustor writing that) to be sent to ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail . com, but I'm not going to be a stickler if someone sends me a webmail through my user name here. Just be aware that I don't check that address so often anymore and submissions made to the beatles.comp address will be taken first.

After Friday, it won't be a big deal. I foresee a quick deluge of claims followed by a summer of relaxin'.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 14:49 (fourteen years ago)

inspired by this idea so I have already started recording the track (you can't fight inspiration, can you ?)... hope I'll get it first !
anyway, good idea and fun project !

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

I will say this: I've gotten a few submissions from people who have later admitted they jumped the gun, and I haven't seen one repeat.

And the ones I am seeing, let's just say that this likely won't follow No. 1 to the letter.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

So do we not have to wait til Friday to request a song?

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

You do.

The ones who have contacted me prematurely to select a song won't be assigned one officially until I go through the first ones who come in on Friday at the ilx.beatles.comp email address. Those first ones on Friday will be given first choice.

On Monday, 6/4, at no official time, I'll write back to any of the early claimants and if no one has claimed their song over the weekend, I'll confirm their choice. Or they can resend me their request on Friday to get in line to be a little more sure.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

oh I totally intend to resubmit; I just assumed early submissions wouldn't be counted

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

I think everyone gets the gist. It sounds more complicated than it is and will be moot in less than a week.

I know this is different than the way these things are handled, where you make a claim on the thread, but I think the element of surprise of seeing MOMUS - HONEY DON'T for the first time will be worth it.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

Me doing "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)," including all the funny voices.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

I think I'm going to have a go at this!!

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

You're all going to be 'blown away' by my all-flatulence version of 'Tomorrow Never Knows'!
(j/k - not really)

Radical Jedward (snoball), Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I see why Mad Men spent the $250K.

pplains, Tuesday, 29 May 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

half tempted by this, awesome idea

pet tommy & the barkhaters (darraghmac), Thursday, 31 May 2012 08:19 (fourteen years ago)

I know that it's June 1 ~~somewhere~~, but just a reminder that claims for your covers will be accepted here, beginning 23 hours and 48 minutes from whatever the time-stamp is underneath this post.

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

And that link doesn't work, mother fuc

ilx.beatles.comp @ gmail . com

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

just sent an email, although I'm guessing someone already claimed it!

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:23 (fourteen years ago)

Won't accept it for another 23 hours or so!

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, nearly did as well, forgot the date..

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

d'oh!

Mad God 40/40 (Z S), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:27 (fourteen years ago)

after actually reading the thread rather than skimming, now i feel like an idiot. but let my misery serve as a warning for the rest of you: don't be like me!

Someone should do Maxwell's Silver Ban Hammer.

Radical Jedward (snoball), Thursday, 31 May 2012 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

They're doing "Please Mr Postflag" instead.

Mark G, Thursday, 31 May 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

this could become an unintended distributed-denial-of-service attack on the ILX server at 1400 GMT

Lee971 (Lee626), Friday, 1 June 2012 05:52 (fourteen years ago)

why?

Mark G, Friday, 1 June 2012 06:17 (fourteen years ago)

Send them to gmail. They deserve it.

One hour and 18 minutes...

pplains, Friday, 1 June 2012 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

Question: are we allowed to do several tracks in the form of a 'medley', or are we only allowed to do one track and one track only?

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 1 June 2012 13:14 (fourteen years ago)

thousands of ppl sending email, some containing attachments, all to the same address at the same time. But right, it would'nt be gmail's servers not ilx's.

Lee971 (Lee626), Friday, 1 June 2012 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

All around the world there are ILXors poised with their fingers (or other appendages) over the 'send' button.

Radical Jedward (snoball), Friday, 1 June 2012 13:54 (fourteen years ago)

AND WE'RE OFF.

a chamber orchestra feat. a funky rythm section.

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 1 March 2013 18:01 (thirteen years ago)

that's like that super early instrumental, right?

Yep, I think it's part of the Tony Sheridan sessions. It's the only song credited to Lennon/Harrison.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Friday, 1 March 2013 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

I feel really bad about not submitting my youve got to hide your love away because it would've come out sounding like work that motherfucker

a 8min cover of "wild honey pie" by kevin shields produced by daft punk is my new dream !

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 4 March 2013 12:42 (thirteen years ago)

paul mariocartney is still making me lol. amazing.

tylerw, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

haha, me too. It cries out for a game to be made for it.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

I was a stickler for the whole calling your song and then submitting it, just because I knew any other way, I would get way too disorganized and probably leave off somebody (like I did in my Husker Du poll.)

But that said, when this showed up in my inbox unannounced, I really had no choice but to accept it on the spot, now did I?

love when the track accelerates !

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 7 March 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Whoever's responsible for the Paul Mariocartney track: thank you.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 21:04 (thirteen years ago)

hon men's: "you won't see me", "Tomorrow Never Knows" and "Baby you're a rich man"

Mark G, Sunday, 17 March 2013 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

Good Night is my favourite though. For all that it stays close to the original, it's prettier. I love the primitive-sounding orchestration, it sets it off so well.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 17 March 2013 22:56 (thirteen years ago)

two years pass...

wow, somehow i totally totally missed this entire project. listening now, first couple tracks are off to a great start, y'all.
