Can someone reupload the real leaked track?

Christian, Saturday, 3 September 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Check the YSI thread.

sherbert head (inabillity), Sunday, 4 September 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

New BoC song "Oscar See Through Red Eye" is already up for download at www.bleep.com

Maximalizm, Monday, 5 September 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

boards of canada is a idiot

amon (eman), Monday, 5 September 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

warp doesn't care about black people

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 5 September 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

why does boards of canada never want to rock?

russignonald's, Monday, 5 September 2005 04:22 (twenty years ago)

"oscar" is just alright, i think.

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 5 September 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

er if ppl can listen to it in full (and so record the stream) where's the incentive to give bleep 99p?

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Monday, 5 September 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

the stream fades 15 seconds or so from the point you start listening to it, forcing you to hear the thing in bits, but anyone w basic sound software could piece it together. i spose if you were that set on not buying it, it'd be easier to find the thing on slsk, so i guess it's kind of plea to do things legitimate like. i wondered the same thing, though.

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

also a lil surprised that the ppl so incredibly keen for this to leak arent talking about the legitimate bits now available.

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

(unfortunate overuse of the word 'legitimate', there. i'm tired.)

jermaine (jnoble), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

come to think of it the 15 second thing makes me fancy the challenge of ripping it even more than the merits of the yeah mediocre tune... clever warp

having the boc bits as isolated singularities out of context is quite the softoff i wager

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

"oh wow... a guitar!!"

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

"also a lil surprised that the ppl so incredibly keen for this to leak arent talking about the legitimate bits now available."

yeah, exactly. there's 300 posts of anticipation but by the time two tracks hit it's all been dissipated. most likely the new shit is so underwhelming it's enervated people's interest to the point that holding the z key down and hitting submit isn't even worth the effort.

bill neil (inabillity), Monday, 5 September 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

kinda sad that some of yall are tryin to figure out ways not to shell out 99 cents...btw, oscar is pretty run of the mill boards (nothing too spectacular, that is, not by the high standards they've set from much of their previous catalog)...that satellite icarus track someone leaked a while back on this thread is frickin' incredible tho...more, please!

venimdenim, Monday, 5 September 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

it's $1.35, for the record. I couldn't find a good reason not to pay.

OSTRE is definitely weaker than pretty much anything they've previously released. The use of crisp drum machines was a bad idea.. the mutated organic beats were part of what made BoC special. Another thing that set them apart from their contemporaries was the focus on melody, and the lack of it on OSTRE only emphasises that point.

bill neil (inabillity), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

IIRC, the streams on Bleep are only 96kbps or so to discourage ripping.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

fuckkk :(
the new single off of BLEEP sucks :(
The sad thing is O.S.T.R.E. must be one of the best tracks on the album, otherwise they wouldnt have chosen it to be the first single.
its way tooo average sounding, no depth, no melody, no analougue, no balls...it SUCKSS!!! :O(

Campfire is SUCKING!, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 01:51 (twenty years ago)

"Chromakey Dreamboat" is really great.. you can hear it here:

http://www2.thewire.co.uk/mp3/STREAM/resonance/wire_18_aug_2005.mp3

It's the second song they play. It's hard to hear what's going on fully, but it sounds awesome.. it sounds like BoC, but in a way it's radically different form their nother stuff.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 02:05 (twenty years ago)

And I totally agree about "Oscar" being pants.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

thanks for that link. the track is decent (better than OSTRE at least) and there are sections that I really like, but it's a shame about those beats.

I think in trying to sound different with this album they're losing their distinctive character and feel. I've lowered my expectations tremendously.

bill neil (inabillity), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

i dont know about how i feel about that guitar riff.
it seems.... boring.

and dissapointing i am sad to say.

BUT.
i wasnt impressed with any of their songs on the 1st listen.
so we will see.
i still owe them for geogaddi even though i bought it.

ben, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

As a longtime Boards obsessive, I must say that I really dig "Oscar". It may sound like Boards, but .... I ... like Boards. So I find that to be a good thing.

In the context of the album, I'm sure it'll sound better to those of you who are underwhelmed (which seems to be all of you). But I actually prefer "Oscar" to the other leaked track.

Ah well, each to his own

Erock LAzron, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

'Oscar See Through Red Eye' is ok, imo. I don't like the chord progression. It doesn't really go anywhere at all.

Salvador (Salvador), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

Erock, I for one cannot get enough of OSTRE. I've listened to it over and over and over and over...

Yes, it doesn't 'really go anywhere' because its already there! The subtleties and movements of sound are fantastic, with pieces being added and subtracted with extreme precision. The fact that there is no melodic hook makes it all the more intriguing to me. I get a sense of floating through space and passing through a swirling vortex of motions and glimpses.

I'm so glad that I didn't bring the expectations of specific structure, instrumentations and tambres that many of you seem to have. I'd challenge you to put on a pair of headphones and listen to this track on repeat, perhaps while doing someting else. I've never heard a piece of music quite like it.

Bryan G, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 07:26 (twenty years ago)

"perhaps while doing something else", heh

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 08:24 (twenty years ago)

I think the new Oscar track is better than just "ok". I think it's pretty great actually. However, I also think it doesn't quite match up to some of Boards' greatest tracks.

dkcmusic, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

all the legit tracks are amazing, but i am not so keen on the guitar in the chromakey one that was played on the radio. Oscar is stunning after repeated listenings. the arrangment is so odd...the reprisal hook motify thing...bassline only once every few minutes..a strange tune but stunning as i said.

but ENOUGH already. wheres the GODDAMN LEAK??

i seriously had dreams last night that it got leaked. rude awakening.

fuckin' bubo, Tuesday, 6 September 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

should be leaked in a few days/ maybe a week..........

stupidash, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

curious yellow, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 06:27 (twenty years ago)

Well, I've decided to upload myself cause I dont want to kill the other link, wait an hour and it should be up. It 192kbps and its real.

Works, freshly uploaded.

curious yellow, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 08:46 (twenty years ago)

ha, clearly people are reading this thread, then!

i dunno, on first listen it sounded a bit dull. but that was probably true of geogaddi, too. i should give it a go on headphones later, i guess.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

lol, I agree it sounds a little dull but like you said on repeated listens I'm sure it will make sense. Man, my upload is down allready!

curious yellow, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

Hey can you post it again? The three authentic tracks so far are great!

VLCI, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

I'm not going to post it again because it took so long to upload (2 hours) I'm on Soulseek, tell me your username and I'll add you to my friends list then you can leech it off me without and queues.

curious yellow, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

My user name is "peter_upstairs"

VLCI, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

Send me a message on slsk yeah?

VLCI, Wednesday, 7 September 2005 09:14 (twenty years ago)

I'll probably come to terms with this new sound. Now that I've shed all expectations I'm free to enjoy it for what it is.

bill neil (inabillity), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

i'm starting to think BIBIO was one of the boards of canada guys.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 10:42 (twenty years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

This is a perfect album for walking, as I discovered on a two-hour trek around the neighborhood (and a lake, no less).

bill neil (inabillity), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

OH WOW I WAS SEARCHING FOR THE PERFECT "WALKING" ALBUM

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

I thought that said Wanking.
