littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

to an exaggerated degree perhaps, but many hang out with or are social with killers.

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

Now just because I appreciate and respect the culture, doesn’t mean I falsely (and lamely) try to emulate it. It has its place. That place just is not in my house or on my body.

The Reverend, Thursday, 24 May 2012 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

also, the correspondence between 'decent ones' and 'make good music' is basically nil

No, I think it's the dude from Interpol on the El-P album, tho maybe Lupe rapped over "Are We Human or Are We Dancer"

jesus christ (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Thursday, 24 May 2012 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

It is easy enough to say that man is immortal simply because he will endure: that when the last dingdong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still zinging Custos.

haha this is true of life in general, more or less

onlydarkness.com, Thursday, 24 May 2012 01:52 (fourteen years ago)

very few of the rappers i've hung out w/ are nationally famous at all but probably half if not the majority of them have been pretty warm, decent human beings that you can talk about real life shit and joke around with. that probably thins out a bit the higher you climb the career ladder, but that's probably as much as a "fame makes you an asshole/you have to be an asshole to become famous" thing as anything to do with rap itself.

some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 02:05 (fourteen years ago)

Idk I mean less about whether or not they are charismatic or have good personalities, and more the shit involved in being in the business & coming from these neighborhoods where there is a lot of death and dishonesty. I'm not judging so much them as social creatures, more just that yr talking about music, at least where I am, performed in the area of lots of criminality and poverty. The reality of that shit can be pretty rough. Add to that the kind of personality likely to want to be a rapper, and yeah, yr gonna be dealing w a lot of ppl who might be perfectly move face to face but have objectionable worldviews

littledotheyknow (D-40), Thursday, 24 May 2012 08:37 (fourteen years ago)

Fucking swype

littledotheyknow (D-40), Thursday, 24 May 2012 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

To be clear I dont think being poor is an excuse, im just taking about the nature of what hip hop is--its closer to wrestling that way, it doesnt surprise me overly to find out action bronson has some assholish tendencies abt transvestites

littledotheyknow (D-40), Thursday, 24 May 2012 08:41 (fourteen years ago)

hey i just thought the phrase "99% of rappers are not decent human beings" implied some deeper moral judgment than just not having a progressive view of the LGBT community -- obviously if you're meeting rappers as a member of the media you might not get their true unfiltered behavior and beliefs but i was speaking more of a basic humanity i've observed in individuals rather than just whether they're friendly and charismatic. one of the last rappers i interviewed is a guy who caught a body at 15 and has spent literally half of his life in jail, and i would place him in the 'decent human beings' column.

some dude, Thursday, 24 May 2012 13:22 (fourteen years ago)

if head only knew how deej felt about the rap game
they'd relocate and change they fuckin name
