that's an interesting perspective

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:45 (fourteen years ago)

its like expecting enlightened views from professional wrestlers

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

if you actually think abt what political views even the 'smartest' rappers have you'd probably not really agree with them

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i dunno the older i get the less i listen to rap and that's definitely one of the reasons :/

^^

also true w/me & pornogrind but I wasn't a big pornogrind collector to begin with

cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

i'm imagining one of the those wood-tone vinyl plates with incised white lettering. it says "pornogrind collector" and is displayed in a little brass desk stand.

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

there's a genre called pornogrind?

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:54 (fourteen years ago)

ah yes Hyper-Intestinal Vulva Desecration

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 21:55 (fourteen years ago)

this isnt really an art form to look for decent human beings ni

...if you actually think abt what political views even the 'smartest' rappers have you'd probably not really agree with them

― littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, May 23, 2012

just to be clear, your response here is along the lines of "eh, rappers are neither decent human beings nor particularly smart"?

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:13 (fourteen years ago)

or am i misinterpreting those scare quotes?

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:14 (fourteen years ago)

99% of rappers are not decent human beings.

the ones respected as 'smart' by 'smart people' like ilxors are usually a part of this group even if their politics code as vaguely progressive

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

99% of rappers are not decent human beings.

that seems like a pretty intense figure I gotta say

cosi fan whitford (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

Shock G seems like a decent guy

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

that's all I got

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

99% of rappers are not decent human beings.

experiencing a high level of cognitive dissonance here

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

fauxmarc, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

im saying hes an asshole

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

just that the road to civilization's ruin is paved w/ looking at rappers as role models

theres an overarching vibe that's like, dang, i thought action bronson was a stand-up dude! & i guess after years of following rap i don't understand the idea of looking to hip hop for guys that you want to hang out with. having hung out with rappers, i feel even less eager about that sort of thing than ever.

not saying there aren't decent ones. but a wholllle lot of them are tremendous assholes ime

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:58 (fourteen years ago)

also, the correspondence between 'decent ones' and 'make good music' is basically nil

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 22:59 (fourteen years ago)

i think part of why i still really like rap is its such an incredibly cynical form of music

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:00 (fourteen years ago)

its about time deej replaced his broad brush, its getting a littel worn out

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

[insert standard hand-wringing about the extent to which fan demand for cynicism/nihilism/assholism drives the genre, what that says about rap fans]

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:08 (fourteen years ago)

do like the swedish chef though

spextor vs bextor (contenderizer), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:08 (fourteen years ago)

oh i dont think the music itself is cynical or nihilistic. but the people involved in creating it often are, very much so

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:08 (fourteen years ago)

also sometimes they are actual murderers!

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

to an exaggerated degree perhaps, but many hang out with or are social with killers.

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

are you ok?

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

no just v cynical about the hip hop world lately

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

rlly tho the music is the only worthwhile part of it

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:31 (fourteen years ago)

the joke is that Russell and co. are ready to blast that guy because they're not sure if he's actually himself or if he's something else

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 23:32 (fourteen years ago)

Now just because I appreciate and respect the culture, doesn’t mean I falsely (and lamely) try to emulate it. It has its place. That place just is not in my house or on my body.

It is easy enough to say that man is immortal simply because he will endure: that when the last dingdong of doom has clanged and faded from the last worthless rock hanging tideless in the last red and dying evening, that even then there will still be one more sound: that of his puny inexhaustible voice, still zinging Custos.
