love this post

flopson, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

yeah maybe there is or will be actual vitriol for "Breakfast" out there, everything i've seen has been more lol smh

some dude, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

i agree reaction to this will be overheated but its also the follow-up single to one of the most divisive rap hits of last year and is, like, unambiguously bad. sexism & schadenfreude will be a part of some reactions but al is right you can't act like this is just another 2 chainz feature, it's a notable flop from an artist with a nasal voice & generally obnoxious vibe

flopson, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

wait when did we start talking about drake again

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

lol

some dude, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

my problem with kreayshawn is basically the same as wiz khalifa, these motherfuckers aren't even rapping they're just talking in meter, barely even feels like a record, who needs that shit

some dude, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)

well as jordan s once pointed out, what is rap but rhythmic speaking?

twittering spinster (k3vin k.), Thursday, 24 May 2012 00:25 (fourteen years ago)

ok y'all are asking "what is rap" on the kreayshawn thread, ppl need to be yellow carded or put in the penalty box or some such shit

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Thursday, 24 May 2012 01:44 (fourteen years ago)

Am I being naive or does the chorus of "Breakfast" sound a ton like "Stupid Hoe"? Also she sounds so fucking bored and uninterested in this song!

a parker full of poseys (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 28 May 2012 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

Tbh I don't blame her for being uninterested in that song

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 28 May 2012 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

how can ppl hate her

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:06 (thirteen years ago)

It's easier than you think!

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

congrats on being heartless

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)

its not going to do numbers, at least partly since theyve so mishandled her career -- she should have had immediate follow-ups released to GG -- but i kind of wish this would sell the hundreds of thousands it would have in the pre-internet era back before rockists got to feel self righteous every time a hugely popular artist had trouble selling CDs

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

for the sake of argument -- what hugely popular gold-selling rappers of the pre-itunes era is she analogous to, just cause i can't even visualize anyone, even setting aside race or gender or w/e

some dude, Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)

candy man of 'knockin boots' fame

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

idk to pick a completely random example lol

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

have people forgotten that, like, there were teen rap one hit wonders prior to the internet?

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

not that he was a teen this is more a general question that's been popping up lately for probably obvious reasons

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

"Knockin' Boots" was a platinum single at a time when that was a pretty impressive feat. "Gucci Gucci" doesn't have any sales certification even in the iTunes era when any real big hit at least goes gold.

some dude, Sunday, 24 June 2012 22:39 (thirteen years ago)

its impossible to compare them b/c you couldnt do on-demand streams of 'knockin boots' 35 million times back in the knocking boots era either.

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:14 (thirteen years ago)

are you saying there aren't popular rap songs with 35+ million youtube views AND platinum iTunes sales? is "Gucci Gucci" as popular as "Teach Me How To Dougie" in your mind or something?

some dude, Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:19 (thirteen years ago)

that song was already a hit when the video dropped

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

correct me if im wrong

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

so if the video dropped earlier it would've hurt its sales? wtf are you talking about?

some dude, Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:22 (thirteen years ago)

one big room, full of bad logic

some dude, Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:26 (thirteen years ago)

hehe

J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:31 (thirteen years ago)

im talking about the road a song takes to getting to its audience. by the time the vid for 'dougie' comes out people have already paid for mp3s

littledotheyknow (D-40), Sunday, 24 June 2012 23:47 (thirteen years ago)

why are we even pursuing this line of reasoning w/r/t a song for which the video was basically the engine of its success

some dude, Monday, 25 June 2012 00:03 (thirteen years ago)

for the sake of argument -- what hugely popular gold-selling rappers of the pre-itunes era is she analogous to, just cause i can't even visualize anyone, even setting aside race or gender or w/e

Althea and/or Donna?

badg, Monday, 25 June 2012 00:45 (thirteen years ago)

they were toasters at best, not rappers

the hat's filthy lesson (sic), Monday, 25 June 2012 00:50 (thirteen years ago)

lol "gucci gucci: the uptown top ranking of its time" may be too crazy for even deej to endorse

some dude, Monday, 25 June 2012 00:53 (thirteen years ago)

one hit wonders whose potential disappeared in a cloud of smoke?

badg, Monday, 25 June 2012 00:58 (thirteen years ago)

Not that I know anything about Althea and Donna's circumstances

badg, Monday, 25 June 2012 00:59 (thirteen years ago)

not all one hit wonders are created equal -- i mean if we're actually trying to discuss the scale of success of "Gucci Gucci" and people are genuinely saying it was as popular as "Uptown Top Ranking" or "Knockin' Boots" was in its day then i dunno what to say

some dude, Monday, 25 June 2012 01:03 (thirteen years ago)

Lol deej, childhood videos, accusations of rockism, candyman comparisons, yr shootin' dirty pool tonight

next thing you know it will be slo-mo videos of kray looking longingly into the camera with that sarah mclaughlin adding from the animal shelter commercial playing....”with only pennies a day, you could help provide a viral rapper with books, clothes, and adderal”

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:06 (thirteen years ago)

if that video didnt charm you you're the cynical one here imo

littledotheyknow (D-40), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:08 (thirteen years ago)

Dude it was cute, i have a two year old girl I just read to and rocked to sleep, I'm a sentimental fool in a way frankly no one in a world of young ppl could even comprehend.

So she was a cute kid, she had one pretty fun song, it need not be more than that

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

i'm sure hitler was totes adorable as a rugrat too, man. seems un-germane to his adult activities, though.

me so fat (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:13 (thirteen years ago)

"there it is, then."

me so fat (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:13 (thirteen years ago)

lol what are you trying to prove

all im saying is i think kreayshawn is cool & 'gucci gucci' is a dope song & i dont get the hate. did JJ Fad deal with this nonsense?

probably

littledotheyknow (D-40), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:17 (thirteen years ago)

"hitler was totes adorable" is prob the best possible way to invoke godwin's law

some dude, Monday, 25 June 2012 01:29 (thirteen years ago)

i was at a party today and my kid was going to town on a chocolate cupcake, someone pointed out that he had a little chocolate hitler 'stache and i immediately started cleaning him up and going 'nobody take any photos, i am not letting this go viral'

some dude, Monday, 25 June 2012 01:31 (thirteen years ago)

Deej for one no one hates kreayshawn but you're just such a weirdo about her that it's kinda hard not to say she sucks

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)

haha al

J0rdan S., Monday, 25 June 2012 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

this thread always fills me with joy, for whatever that's worth

>>>> joey badass

littledotheyknow (D-40), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:37 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i mean i have no real opinion on this little gremlin one way or the other but it's enjoyable to drop in every now and again and see how the captain save-a-kreay campaign is holding up.

me so fat (strongo hulkington's ghost dad), Monday, 25 June 2012 01:41 (thirteen years ago)

it's interesting because i really can't even imagine any plausible scenario in which the world responds to kreayshawn in a way that deej is happy with. it was always gonna be either 'she doesn't get enough respect because she's popular' or 'she's not as popular as she deserves to be' or 'she's more popular than you realize because the metrics are wrong' etc etc.
