the only ppl i have seen call this song out in that particular creepy way are brit industry ppl that don't know/listen to rap music. i think anyone who listens to rap on a regular basis is pretty used to sweeping shitty songs under the rug but normally it's because that artist releases dozens, if not hundreds, of tracks a year.

M@tt I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of any of those things! I'm explaining why I think ppl are quick to jump on her when she falters, and yes al saying women get a disproportionate amt of backlash is totally the same as saying no men are overhyped

"tupac was bloggable" was me pointing out that just being bloggable isnt all kreay has going for her but its not like extra musical stuff hasn't always been a part of the game. Novelty acts existed before the waffle zombies

ehh i think this is a long-running thing. people around here might fuck w/ jj fad after years of kogan/eddy championing (i dont remember who liked them or maybe it was l'trimm they liked) but in most of the hip hop world, girls who rap & don't do so in hyper-technical super-skilled double time are pretty generally considered disposable

well, obviously women have a smaller presence in the rap game than men and a harder road. but i dunno, the whole "disproportionate amount of backlash" thing, of course that can't be measured, but i kinda do wonder, if you could do a mathematical ratio of record sales-to-twitter/comments box hate, whether female rappers actually do get it worse than dudes.

like Nicki gets tons and tons of hate but i'm not sure if it's actually more than Drake or whoever

the hate drake gets is maybe gendered though, *complicating* matters

haha i just meant that some of the hate drake gets is for being "soft," isn't it? i mean, i think he's terrible, but i do think expectations of masculinity play into the way he gets dismissed sometimes. not necessarily on ilx

horseshoe otm although i should mention that i feel the ~perception~ of drake being gendered less than hypermale is pretty surface-level & oversold. he reaffirms his masculinity constantly.

i agree reaction to this will be overheated but its also the follow-up single to one of the most divisive rap hits of last year and is, like, unambiguously bad. sexism & schadenfreude will be a part of some reactions but al is right you can't act like this is just another 2 chainz feature, it's a notable flop from an artist with a nasal voice & generally obnoxious vibe
