it's not really that bad -- the same thing happened with the v-nasty/gucci album... it was just unmemorable and disappointingly perfunctory but bcuz of who v-nasty was some people acted like it was some notable affront to hip hop

this song just sounds like 5 joints that float out to blogs every week

blappleship (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

most music, let alone most hip-hop, is hilariously terrible

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

this is banal in the way 99% of 2chainz features are

musically, it sounds like something off the last roach gigz album, which i was also disappointed with

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

i think her rapping is fine on it, its just not a dope song

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno man, opening rhymes before the beat drops border on straight up terrible

i kinda think you've been spending too much time in based god/riff raff land if you can't figure out that not everybody is really into rappers doing simple little 8th note flows without actually riding the beat

waggin the cock and flow tit (some dude), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:03 (fourteen years ago)

the 2 Chainz verse is hilariously short and half-assed, even on the curve of his usual tossed-off style, like he almost wants you to know how much he doesn't give a shit about being on that song

waggin the cock and flow tit (some dude), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

he def wasn't getting paid by the word

ehhh, they're generic but not 'bad'

idk her music is p worthless w/out immediacy & pop appeal imo, so its kind of irrelevant, like, im def not checking for her for verses, but at the same time her raps fed into what made 'gucci gucci' work

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:13 (fourteen years ago)

it's a combo of the rhymes and her delivery, a great flow forgives a host of ain't-saying-nothing sins but that's like worst of both worlds

i'm sure you're right and that kind of makes it worse to me.

like i don't really get you and deej's angle on this..."this sucks but sure lots of stuff sucks"?

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

I guess their point is don't count her out for one anonymous-sounding wack track

but if yr hotly awaited follow-up to yr massive 35MM views youtube hit sounds like it's running on fumes how far is this jalopy gonna go realistically

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

we're anticipating the hate its going to receive being disproportionate b/c of a cocktail of schadenfreude & sexism

this song went harder

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

lol I'd taken my headphones off and there forgotten that I was playing the Death Grips album when I started that and was all "oh holy shit, that's amazing- oh wait, that is 'Bitch Please' *hits off* okay lol"

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

xpost

that's terrible too! it's just a shitty as pancakes one!

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

if the only reason ppl are singling it out for hate is because it's kreayshawn that's the same thing because the only reason you are half-heartedly defending-it-while-stopping-short-of-denying-that-its-obviously-total-garbage is because it's kreayshawn and you are obviously invested in the idea that she's somehow notable

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

lol "shitty as pancakes"

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

"firetruck" = at least sounds competent
"breakfast" = amateur hour

diamanda ram dass (Edward III), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:35 (fourteen years ago)

I wish I could go back in time and prevent myself ever from hearing Kreayshawn. I don't really hate it, it just makes me really, really sad somehow.

'invested'?? i'm not defending this song, just the inevitable overreaction. inasmuch as i think ppl praise wack garbage & hate on stuff that is actually-dope all the time. i mean u can see it on rap radar calling keef a 'flavor of the month' or w/e too ... all about creating an aura of worthiness around auteurs & etc. that leads to b.s. like this

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lqm74n4XTi1qkrgxjo1_500.jpg

& i mean i like black hippy but the comparison is hilarious.

'gucci gucci' was a great rap single in the vein of l'trimm, 'my back my neck,' & any number of other classic hip hop one-offs, i don't know if her album is gonna be garbage or dope or w/e but i do know that there are a lot of ppl w/ ideas about serious art & ephemeral bullshit that have a slaughterhouse CD they'd like to sell you

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

speaking of, the new kendrick single is just as bad as this song just in a different way

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

I doubt that dude is happy about being the MC Ren of the group lol

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:01 (fourteen years ago)

also li'l mama

deej otm also otm about that terrible kendrick song but it is for a video game soundtrack so whatever

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:02 (fourteen years ago)

ren is one of the most underrated MCs of all time IMO

deej i agree w/this:

'gucci gucci' was a great rap single in the vein of l'trimm, 'my back my neck,' & any number of other classic hip hop one-offs, i don't know if her album is gonna be garbage or dope or w/e but i do know that there are a lot of ppl w/ ideas about serious art & ephemeral bullshit that have a slaughterhouse CD they'd like to sell you

so like i dunno, just stop caring about kreayshawn! if it was current we'd all have to like "come to terms" with JJ fad's post supersonic work or some shit.

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i mean i think that everyone just assumes everything that attains viral popularity is a lana del rey situation of think piece culture/ 'is this bloggable?' overshadowing 'the music, maaan' but you're not going to find an act that doesn't rely on that kind of engine getting signed any more

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

kreayshawn was getting by on being bloggable tho

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

her mom was in a punk band! v-nasty said the n-word! interesting!

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but thats like ... every act ever

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

tupac was pretty bloggable imo

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:27 (fourteen years ago)

so you're saying she's good...or not? or we shouldn't be talking about how she sucks even though she sucks because we're just reacting to the buzz about her but then again she has buzz because she's interesting but so was tupac when fluxblog rocketed him to fame in 2001?

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

i just mean new boss same as the old boss. ppl used to complain about how 'the media' or the corporate rap label overlords were telling us what to like in the 90s & now its 'blog buzz'

being bloggable might not mean ur worthwhile but it also doesnt mean you're not. being bloggable is an essential part of the game

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

um... "my neck my back" is NOT a one off. i celebrate queen khia's entire discography

thats all i have to say abt this

twittering spinster (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

but pill never had a good song

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:18 (fourteen years ago)

haha i was just thinking that

"deej, its ok" *puts hand on deej's shoulder* "just admit you were wrong about kreayshawn and we'll promise to let you live it down"

but i thought/still think he did, and when his output got progressively less notable, i stopped having expectations. it's ok

twittering spinster (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:21 (fourteen years ago)

what was i wrong abt?

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:23 (fourteen years ago)

the only 'expectations' i have is that ppl are birdmanhandrub-ing in anticipation of calling her a one hit wonder

littledotheyknow (D-40), Tuesday, 22 May 2012 23:24 (fourteen years ago)

so wait where's the sexism

waggin the cock and flow tit (some dude), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 01:09 (fourteen years ago)

i mean more generally, not on ilx, that ppl are more likely to shoot down a woman for being SOOOO OVERHYPED cf lana del rey or w/e

littledotheyknow (D-40), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 05:56 (fourteen years ago)

the only ppl i have seen call this song out in that particular creepy way are brit industry ppl that don't know/listen to rap music. i think anyone who listens to rap on a regular basis is pretty used to sweeping shitty songs under the rug but normally it's because that artist releases dozens, if not hundreds, of tracks a year.

tpp, Wednesday, 23 May 2012 08:00 (fourteen years ago)

so like i dunno, just stop caring about kreayshawn!

no. for people who likde 'gucci gucci', her hit to miss ratio is still good enough to take a listen to new stuff.

also you are posting in a kreayshawn thread so there's that.

there aren't overhyped (or 'overhyped') male artists? c'mon man

waggin the cock and flow tit (some dude), Wednesday, 23 May 2012 13:40 (fourteen years ago)

deej you do this really annoying thing where you basically act like you're the only person in a debate that's an honest dealer, casting out asides like "tupac was bloggable" and basically inferring that everyone who thinks this shit is just obvious garbage is A) a slaughterhouse stan (lol) B) acting like she's worst than she is because of blog hype or C) (your last post) a closet misogynist

also you are posting in a kreayshawn thread so there's that.

M@tt I'm not accusing anyone in this thread of any of those things! I'm explaining why I think ppl are quick to jump on her when she falters, and yes al saying women get a disproportionate amt of backlash is totally the same as saying no men are overhyped
