The stove in the Louis Armstrong's kitchen long postdates his lifetime - looks like circa 2005.

Rest of kitchen is awesome though. I want those radio-dial cabinet pulls! And the 1972 microwave oven and the NuTone thingie built into the countertop

Lee626, Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

That kitchen is excellent. Represent!

โตเกียวเหมียวเหมียว aka Bulgarian Tourist Chamber (Mount Cleaners), Thursday, 17 May 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

Louis Armstrong's kitchen looks a bit like (but I'm sure it isn't) a Lustron prefab; they had metal built-ins.

My neighbor has a lustron house, they are frustrating!

โตเกียวเหมียวเหมียว aka Bulgarian Tourist Chamber (Mount Cleaners), Thursday, 17 May 2012 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

I'm fascinated by Lustrons, esp. originals that haven't been "improved," they're kinda rare. But I could never live in one.

Soccer mom, hopeless and lost, in utter despair (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 17 May 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

Same kitchen, but lived in:

At least it will never be damaged by termites....

GIS on "keith richard's house" is almost a primer on how to live

http://www.accreditedonlinecolleges.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/libraries/04-KeithRichards.jpg

Vini Reilly Invasion (Elvis Telecom), Thursday, 17 May 2012 20:41 (fourteen years ago)

I remember when Neil was on Leno in 1992 after one or two predictable questions from Jay, Neil said, "You know, I'd much rather play with this train you've got back here." For some reason, an electric train was part of the Tonight Show set. Neil jumped up and began moving things around (plants and such) to get to the train, to the surprise of Leno.

This is a great thread. Tried to find Rick Wakeman's appearance on 'Through the Keyhole' but failed. Ah well. It was just a house full of synths and wizards, anyway.

emil.y, Wednesday, 13 June 2012 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

x-post

So Mr. Stipe has put his penthouse loft home and studio on Canal Street in SoHo on the market for $10.95 million as he searches for a suitable downtown work space to share with his partner, Thomas Dozol, a photographer and silk-screen artist.

Michael Stipe's place is for sale.

i can't believe people actually live like that?!

nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

yes to the kitchen! NO to the study. that wallpaper would give me a headache

most of the house is a bit too whitewashed for me, I'd be scared of getting things dirty bcs I am a walking dirtsmudge

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

agree with the whitewashed comment, but I like the super patterned wallpaper (blame acid...)

Moodles, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

lol

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Media room is nice, yeah. Sort of like the study too but I wouldn't want walls that busy *as a study*. Kitchen is just a kitchen - the only thing that I'm like "yes" to is the sheer amount of room they have, y'know. If someone gave me that house I wouldn't be anything other than made up about it, but the decor is yawwwwwwwwn for the most part.

emil.y, Tuesday, 26 June 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

it's cool that there are a couple of 'relaxed' though

always boggle at houses wehre there's SO many rooms. like you half expect them to have a 'day kitchen' and a 'guest kitchen'

i have mixed feelings about looking at musicians' homes
on one hand, i want to see every tiny detail but also i cannot imagine such prying eyes around my home (not that anyone wants to see it but still) so i feel bad about looking

guilt not necessary when the house is up for sale !

Richard Ashcroft's new home plans for Taynton retreat

No photos of the inside, but apparently it "was built in 1660 and features a period bull-ring, a secret garden and an ornamental pond."

A bull-ring?
