I have a solo project called "Slow Death" that consists entirely of geiger counter recordings. No effects, no edits, etc. I'm in another noise project called "Smashed Femur Dance Party" with the guy from Prurient. I've been doing vocals for that recently.

Dave Fischer, Sunday, 16 February 2003 05:07 (twenty-three years ago)

ILM'er Matt Maxwell have an occasional band called The Roswell Incident.

A local Long Beach coffee bar that I frequent has been bullying me into playing a show there even after repeated warnings that it'll probably be me droning a guitar over a laptop backing track. So I suppose something will come out of this too.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Sunday, 16 February 2003 07:57 (twenty-three years ago)

space dust is playing again in a few weeks, there's some new people going to be in the band, we might even practice with them. international telepaths (= me & dianne) is supposed to be playing soon too i think. i'll do some synth stuff with george gosset some time if he can get his fuckin shit together too.

duane, Sunday, 16 February 2003 09:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Brazen Hussies next electro-stonercore opus nearing completion. Yes.

dave q, Sunday, 16 February 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

What Chris meant to say is that he and i are the primary component of the Roswell Incident. Geez, that webpage is old, and lots of it is made up... Though we're trying to get our first release out by the end of the year. I'm betting the package will be more expensive than the discs themselves (how's that for shallow?).

Don't forget the legendary DUI, Chris.

mosurock (mosurock), Sunday, 16 February 2003 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh! Yeah! Here would probably be the place to say that I'm in a new band. It started as my solo project, but it's far outgrown that, since our long-time soundman turned out to be a laptop-ist genius. So it's laptop beatz, shoegazer guitar and girly vocals.

We are called The Electric Bubblegum Arkestra and we sound a bit like a cross between Stereolab, New Order and The Monkees. Actually, no, make that we sound a lot like New Order, considering we just spent half the day sampling them.

If you'd like to see us live, and you live anywhere near London, come down and see us this Friday (that would be the 21st February) at the Metro Club on Oxford Street. I think we're on about 8.30, so don't blink or you'll miss us.

Oh, and I think I'm DJ-ing again at the CTCL night on Saturday 22nd at the Buffalo Bars. Don't know what time.

kate, Sunday, 16 February 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

solo project: tinobeat
psych-ish pop, but kind of darker.. um, I dunno. its pretty cool.

band: the holy molys
girly pop, but with pretty noisy guitars...

Call it post-country or country prog, I guess. Not signed to a label yet, but have started working with a fairly big manager. Have gotten press, including Village Voice, Philly Weekly, Pittsburgh City Paper, Creative Loafing. Have opened for Dickie Betts, Robyn Hitchcock, Nina Nastasia, Clem Snide, Papa M.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in a band called The Results. We finished recording a sweet album's worth of material last fall, and we haven't practiced since. There's a part of me that wants to sit on it for twenty years and then let people hear it, but that's never gonna happen.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost I've always wondered if female WPRB djs get hit on over the request line a lot.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, we do. quite often. there's a dude who calls and asks for girls to laugh, because he's got a fetish for women's laughter [??]. there's another guy, whose name im completely blanking on, that always calls when i play something pre-1980 and wants to know how old i am.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. I have to admit, in my lonliest moments, I've been tempted to call cute-sounding djs ("Wow, they're cute AND they're into music!!!"), but then thought better of it.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 02:50 (twenty-one years ago)

thank you for refraining from calling. thankfully in the new station we have caller id.

i dont mind calls from my friends, though.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

My band is named Blowjob. Well, if I'm going to be honest, it isn't a band as of yet. It's a concept. One day, however, Blowjob shall rule the earth. muahahaha. MUAHAHAHAHAH.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Shakey, your bands have fantastic names.

Mama Digdown's Brass Band is still working up tunes for the next album. We might be doing a Mowtown thing instead of just Jackson tunes, for obvious reasons.

The Cleft & Cloven (my electronic group) record is going really well, if a little slowly because my partner is busy with his other band. There should be a new website very soon. I just finished up a dn'b tune that's pretty crazy and the current in-progress tune is a brass band/dancehall joint with lots of horns and shit.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm finally listening to your band on CDBaby -- the live disc. It's great! I may order a copy.

Eh, I guess I'll bite. These are some songs I've been doing haphazardly in my dorm. When I get back home in the summer, I'm starting up an actual band with some friends which will be some bastard spawn of N.E.R.D. and Primal Scream. And also, a french horn will get worked in there.

thx - hopefully the music lives up to 'em.

anyone wanna help me book a west coast tour? I find the logistics really daunting, but I don't think there's any better way for people to find out about us.

I feel funny about this self-promotion stuff, but I'm in a Portland, OR band called Empty Set.

Shakey, if you need help getting a Portland show, I may be able to help out.

darin (darin), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in an outfit monikered Citywide Vacuum. It had been a two piece for seven years, but we have recently added a drummer (very exciting!), and less often, a trombone. We label ourselves as a "New Wave Dub" band, and others have compared us to The Orb, Air, and Boards of Canada. We begin another attempt to record our first album tonight. It'd be nice to get over that hump!

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

darin e-mail me at [email protected] - maybe something in June or July...? There's a lot of ifs involved (8-9 people, many instruments, film projectors, etc.), but I'd like to do it...

anyone in LA wanna help us with a show there? anyone? beuller?

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I play bass in Minneapolis band Yodel A-Go-Go. No website, no recordings, no ambitions; just a bunch of honky-tonk country, rockabilly and jump blues covers.

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm in a band in Knoxville playing bass and singing some. We are called Tenderhooks. We are recording a record right now and will hopefully tour after that. I used to play drums in a band called Kamuy. We effectively broke up over the last couple weeks when our bass player moved to NYC. We had one crappy recording under our belts, but didn't aspire to do much of anything besides play, learn and have fun with that.

I am very prolific in my music making. I have a covers album I did under my own name last year (hopefully an originals album out later this year,) Planck Length is my techno project (album out last year, working on the new one now,) French Traffic [lo-fi avant-improv-pop-ambient] was my main band until my partner in crime moved further away, although we did release about 7 albums and 3 outtakes compilations in 2 years though. I've also recorded 4 "record an album in a day" records with my 17 year old brother, which no one on earth should really hear.

btw, when I say "release" I just mean "print out some artwork and give it to a couple friends."

There are some MP3s on my websitethat I should update sooner or later.

Did a bit of a half-baked job plugging ¢h@r1i€ $tr@ight earlier so should probably elaborate on YouTube clip. They're a big band in their domestic market (won an MTV Europe award and Czech equivalent to the Brits) but are having to start from the bottom of the ladder elsewhere. I usually have a knee-jerk hatred of Anglophile indie-pop but they are genuinely very good and I think they could fit in quite well on mainstream radio across Europe and particularly in the UK. Aside from a glowing mention in The Guardian in the summer they haven't really had much attention in the press here.

If anyone is interested in booking or interviewing them, let me know. The lead singer is very funny and engaging.
