Time to Plug Your Band/Project

A local Long Beach coffee bar that I frequent has been bullying me into playing a show there even after repeated warnings that it'll probably be me droning a guitar over a laptop backing track. So I suppose something will come out of this too.

Don't forget the legendary DUI, Chris.

We are called The Electric Bubblegum Arkestra and we sound a bit like a cross between Stereolab, New Order and The Monkees. Actually, no, make that we sound a lot like New Order, considering we just spent half the day sampling them.

If you'd like to see us live, and you live anywhere near London, come down and see us this Friday (that would be the 21st February) at the Metro Club on Oxford Street. I think we're on about 8.30, so don't blink or you'll miss us.

Oh, and I think I'm DJ-ing again at the CTCL night on Saturday 22nd at the Buffalo Bars. Don't know what time.

writing: i write a column with sara sherr for XLR8R magazine. also, i write for rockpile. [publicists, send me your bands stuff!]

djing: i dj for WPRB in princeton, nj. creepy old men call me and try to figure out how old i am.

babysitting: i book shows in philadelphia. see: plain parade.

i slice, dice and even make julienned fries.

Mama Digdown's Brass Band is still working up tunes for the next album. We might be doing a Mowtown thing instead of just Jackson tunes, for obvious reasons.

The Cleft & Cloven (my electronic group) record is going really well, if a little slowly because my partner is busy with his other band. There should be a new website very soon. I just finished up a dn'b tune that's pretty crazy and the current in-progress tune is a brass band/dancehall joint with lots of horns and shit.

Eh, I guess I'll bite. These are some songs I've been doing haphazardly in my dorm. When I get back home in the summer, I'm starting up an actual band with some friends which will be some bastard spawn of N.E.R.D. and Primal Scream. And also, a french horn will get worked in there.

the band's in brooklyn, the label's in sydney, but that's only 'cause we were unable to find any labels in brooklyn who had either smudge or sneeze on the roster, which was our entire criteria when seeking a home.

i get what is apparently a playlist of my recent youtube favorites. as far as i can tell clemenza's band is a mirror that reflects back into your soul?

Did a bit of a half-baked job plugging ¢h@r1i€ $tr@ight earlier so should probably elaborate on YouTube clip. They're a big band in their domestic market (won an MTV Europe award and Czech equivalent to the Brits) but are having to start from the bottom of the ladder elsewhere. I usually have a knee-jerk hatred of Anglophile indie-pop but they are genuinely very good and I think they could fit in quite well on mainstream radio across Europe and particularly in the UK. Aside from a glowing mention in The Guardian in the summer they haven't really had much attention in the press here.

If anyone is interested in booking or interviewing them, let me know. The lead singer is very funny and engaging.

I'm not trying to brag or anything but my mom will listen to my 2008 joint every now and again. As for my one from 2010 it just rocks too hard for her tastes. Point of reference, she's into Adele, Elton John, Il Divo - that whole scene.
