27. "SUPER DISCO BREAKIN'" (1998) [283 points, 13 votes]

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

here we are!

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

xp Carvel still exists.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

The lyrics of "Body Movin" are totally fun and I somehow still remembered all of them when I heard it a few days ago for the first time since like 1999. I never loved its production on any specific version, but who cares...

billstevejim, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

I didn't vote for it though, but it's not that bad.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)

I had my hopes up for "Something's Got To Give" placin just a lil higher than that.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:14 (fourteen years ago)

"Super Disco Breakin" was my highest-ranked Hello Nasty cut. Such a great high-voltage album opener.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not a big hello nasty fan, but i did vote for i don't know. sounds like thurston moore being a sad hippie with a bent flower.

sounds like thurston moore being a sad hippie with a bent flower.

ha! it really does.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

voted for both of these

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

Very sad Thurston. Good call on that comparison.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

I saw someone who looked like a hippie last week holding a flower and I started humming "I Don't Know."

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

"I Don't Know" is nice and all, but one thing this poll reaffirmed for me is I really prefer loud yapping Beasties to dreamy/experimental Beasties.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

I'm sure everyone agrees with you. "I Don't Know" is a good palate cleanser though, like Pellegrino after a night of drinking.

fuck yeah

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

Turtles' "I'm Chief Kamanawanalea" is my favorite break/drumloop ever

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

such a great opener

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

killer.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

"I Don't Know" is a good palate cleanser though, like Pellegrino after a night of drinking.

Yup. In the context of the album I like it just fine.

24. "PROFESSOR BOOTY" (1992) [331 points, 14 votes, 1 first place vote]

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

My #1, though more for memories around it than it being their absolute best.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

Professor, what's another word for pirate treasure?

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

i think i like that part, and the other samples, more than the track/rapping

man you guys really like Hello Nasty

Hello Nasty is a good album! I think that's a pretty noncontroversial statement. Also, it's going to place exactly 1 song in the top 25, so it's not like it's beloved here above all else.

exactly why it made my ballot

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

"Fight For Your Right" at #23 isn't quite as silly as "Whole Lotta Love" at #33 but it's still in the annals of ILM tracks poll foolishness

kitty shayme (some dude), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, good grief @ ILM

Euler, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

That is ridiculously, insanely low. For shame.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, there's not even one thing wrong with it.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:56 (fourteen years ago)

everything about Fight is top 10 classic, I don't understand what is WRONG with ilx sometimes.

YOU GODDAMN DIRTY APES

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:58 (fourteen years ago)

:)

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

Isn't it just the ubiquity problem? It's a great song that I wore out in 1987; I don't hear the Beastie Boys often on the radio, but there's one station that will play "Fight for Your Right" now and again and nothing else.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

Didn't vote for it. Though it made me a fan in '86, I'm cool with never hearing it again. Same with Paul Revere. Sorry.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

Cf. "Satisfaction," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Sweet Home Alabama," countless others.

clemenza, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

"The ubiquity problem" is some bullshit.

Get wolves (DL), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

ugh seriously

yeah nbd it's just a stone cold classic that you are all killing with indifference, jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez louise
