the first four tracks of this new slugabed album are great, but then it turned into a blur of hi-fi synth-fusion to me (ie no hooks). maybe i shouldn't have tried to listen to it all at once.

going back to '09 listening to Marcus making this weird, weird house music basically that brings in all these elements, I wanna go back to that. If you want a guitar in your track, that's cool, you can do that. Now in UK bass you cannot have guitars—that's one of the rules. You have to have 808s, big Julio Bashmore bass, a US rap sample repeated, cowbell, a little Burial garage sample and a Deadboy synth that goes "eeewwwaaooo," bending all over the place. And those are the rules now. And you do get a lot of, it's just the same old same old that I get sent. There's so many people making music now, that it's flooded.

I'm really psyched that DJG seems to be extricating himself from dubstep and slowly evolving into something else.

He was way too cool for the kids he was hanging out with IMO.

Having been going over old DMZ tracks in the last few days I was wondering if it makes sense to have a Dance Partisans of the Past thread, encompassing everything from early 00's proto dubstep to cotemporary Bass, or whether assorted thread already suffice?

I wouldn't mind having a place to get nostalgic about my record crates.

Ate a lot of ramen so that I could buy all those DMZ platters.

My mate Sully was good enough to pop down and do a set for us on Saturday. I may be biased, but the guy needs his own Fabric cd - very cool blends of uk bass and us-style house, lots of cut-up mixes etc.

I know dungeon dubstep is backward looking and not very exciting to most but I'm determined to plumb the depths.

Swindle is probably referencing soca more than anything but I'm not 100% sure on that.

it's like the go-to unfunky clave for fake latin beats. sure it can be voiced well or disguised/extended but i try to stay away from it when possible.

I guess I should listen to those Mala tracks now. I only had time to listen to one track before I left for work and I was intrigued by the forbidden rhythm, which now that I think of it, might be kind of similar to a montuno rhythm in how it switches from on- to off-beat?
