so good live
― flopson, Monday, 14 May 2012 08:22 (fourteen years ago)
also they're selling every album spread across 5 tapes for 20 bucks at shows, worthwhile investment imo
― flopson, Monday, 14 May 2012 08:23 (fourteen years ago)
Even though he's young he's release a ton of material and the hit rate is quite impressively high.
this.

― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 14 May 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)
Is there a thread about that Ty Segall & White Fence album? It's great!
― Walter Galt, Monday, 14 May 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)
Argh! I just looked this up and they were selling the bundle of tapes from Burger Records, but they're all gone.
― Walter Galt, Monday, 14 May 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)
If I was blown away on first listen by the record w/ White Fence, what Segall should I check out next?
― Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:02 (fourteen years ago)
Melted and Lemons are my personal favs.
― Porto for Pyros (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:03 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, melted's p rad.
― It was you. Miming to Tenacious D. (stevie), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:37 (fourteen years ago)
Melted was indeed rad. Cheers!
― Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)
If you liked "Hair," you should also get the S/T LP by Mikal Cronin, who is in Ty Segall's band - that album rules.
― Walter Galt, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)
Yep that Cronin lp from last year is superb. Anybody heard Slaughterhouse yet? I think it comes out next month.
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 14 May 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)
hair is awesome, they started the set with WF dudes & played a few songs off of it (the first two iirc) so 70's though after they got off stage & ty segall band was on it a noticeable blast step back to the 60's

the men live show i saw was pretty boring tho
― flopson, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)
I've never seen em. They are on first so I'm not sure if I'll get there in time anyway.
hoping they have the Hair LP on sale at the show, I'll probably buy it
― dmr, Wednesday, 16 May 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)
Really enjoying "Hair" despite not being keen on Ty Segall's previous work. This LP is nothing new but it works really well. Not sure where to start with White Fence but I should check some of his stuff out
― gouty ted, Thursday, 17 May 2012 12:43 (fourteen years ago)
Shit, I thought the Men were FANTASTIC when I saw them a couple of months ago! They had a great female bassist with them then who I don't think is in the band anymore. But they were totally ferocious; the drummer's a monster.
― Walter Galt, Thursday, 17 May 2012 13:05 (fourteen years ago)
bassist when i saw them was just some douchey looking guy with a haircut
― flopson, Thursday, 17 May 2012 14:32 (fourteen years ago)
best show I have seen in aaaaaaages
missed the Men. Strange Boys were boring. White Fence was good. Ty Segall fucking RIPPED. seriously awesome.
― dmr, Thursday, 17 May 2012 15:46 (fourteen years ago)
he came out with White Fence to do Long Black Curtain but I think that was the only song they did off "Hair." other than that they each had separate sets.
one of Ty Segall's encores was a cover of Gimme Some Money by the Thamesmen, from Spinal Tap. lolol.
all the stuff from Melted sounded incredible. Girlfriend and Finger were probably my favorites of the set.
― dmr, Thursday, 17 May 2012 15:48 (fourteen years ago)
:-D
― flopson, Thursday, 17 May 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)
Ty Segall was great. Missed everything else due to a transport fail but this felt like a christening. Crowd going nuts. Big, crowded NY room. He's on his waaaaay!
also lol @ this upthread:

yep. people I was with (people who see way too many shows) were like, "this show felt 'important' in a way most shows don't."
from the stage he said it was the best show they ever played
― dmr, Friday, 18 May 2012 20:26 (fourteen years ago)
it's crazy how much better his live show has gotten since just last summer
― flopson, Friday, 18 May 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)
he came out with White Fence to do Long Black Curtain but I think that was the only song they did off "Hair."
uh that's Long White Curtain and it's on White Fence Family Perfume. department of self corrections.
I know they did some of the joint tracks but I don't have that record yet. so I dunno.
― dmr, Friday, 18 May 2012 22:51 (fourteen years ago)
i guess i need to see him sometime soon then, cuz he was putting on great shows a couple years back, but i haven't seen him in a while

I'm starting to think the Ty Segall Band's "Slaughterhouse" is Segall's best album yet.
Agree? Disagree?
Unsure? Then hear it (thanks Whiney): http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-ty-segall-bands-gnarly-full-slaughterhouse
― alpine static, Monday, 25 June 2012 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
Shit shit shi; I really want to stream this, but every time I click on the link (or any link to Spin's website), I get redirected to the Spin homepage. Does anybody know how to work around this?
― Evan R, Monday, 25 June 2012 18:52 (thirteen years ago)
After a few spins I think it is equal to his best albums which is high praise. Although Tell Me What's Inside Your Heart and Wave Goodbye sound like two of his best ever songs. I will probably have changed my mind by next week and consider it his best album!
― Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Monday, 25 June 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)
same thing happens to me but if you are using firefox apparently it works better on different browsers, also if you follow links within spin website rather than going straight fom external link you won't get constantly redirected i think

never really listened to him before tonight, i got the death by audio 3xLP and it came with a 12" of his first show in new york in 2008. it's rad- i love the context and the vibe- not many people there, crowd chatting a bit, segall says he's psyched to be in new york. dude has a massive discography, what's a good place to start?
― flappy bird, Thursday, 24 November 2016 04:12 (nine years ago)
imo can't go wrong with anything from 2009 to 2014
reverse shark attack, melted, goodbye bread, twins, hair, slaughterhouse, manipulator are all great

"freedom's goblin" is a terrific album. i wouldn't have even bothered checking it out but a co-worker put it on and now i can't stop listening. it goes so many different and wonderful places! and the songwriting is really stellar. leagues beyond the yelps and hackneyed "psych" tropes i've come to expect from him, john dwyer et al.

I thought the covers album was really boring, like a high school covers band. Ty at his best is brilliant - Freedom's Goblin often is. But Fudge Sandwich felt like a certain period of Robert Pollard stuff, where he's more into making "product" than actual good records (tho the Lennon cover was strong).
