(I don't read Spin - a magazine that puts Waka Flocka Flame on the cover is not courting me as a reader).

this is exactly why I don't want to engage with you about Kitty Pryde or any rap artist!

Also, like '07 glory days ILX would have just called contenderizer a kid-toucher until he was shamed off the board and this thread would have ended 300 posts ago

But isn't it kind of ridiculous to attempt to claim Kitty Pryde and Waka are points on the same line? Isn't it glaringly obvious that they're doing two entirely different things? And shouldn't what she's doing be judged on its own merits rather than in comparison to rap-as-what-your-average-largely-genre-ignorant-person-thinks-when-they-see-the-word-"rap" artists like Waka or whoever else? I mean, when I watch a rap video posted here or on the Awl or Stuff You Will Hate or the Voice's music blog (which I occasionally do), I find them lobotomizingly tedious, but that doesn't make me rate Kitty Pryde higher by comparison, because the very idea of comparing those two things is laughably absurd to me.

This post, the one you are currently reading, is my sixth in a thread of something like 500 posts. Your bar for QUITE INTERESTED is pretty low.

i think everyone itt who is saying she sucks is judging her on her own merits.

Based on the three YouTubes at the start of the thread, LOL@ the idea of people actually listening to this out of choice/LOL@ it being discussed in any way.

that said, i recall your advocacy of the paris hilton album on ILM as the point that i started to not be on board w/ popism anymore and i really started to feel like supporting particular stuff just to make a populist critical statement was actually a thing, not that i'm saying i have proof that's what you were up to, but just that i started to suspect that this might be lurking just under the surface of the nylpm "everything is great!" stance.

but i have no idea why anyone would think people would like something just to prove a point, or be unable to see why people would take offence at that charge. there's tons of music i think obviously sucks but i don't go around accusing bob dylan or beatles fans of fronting, i just think they have shitty taste. in most of these discussions i read more words and arguments by fans of [paris hilton] or [kitty pryde] or whoever and to respond like you & others do "they're just pretending, this sucks because it sucks and i don't even need to explain why" is inadequate

nb i still love the paris hilton album. such a likeable record

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 14 May 2012 15:03 (fourteen years ago)

but you sort of do accuse them of fronting when you say "serious dude music", if i read you correctly you're accusing people of liking music for gravitas rather than on aesthetic grounds

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 15:14 (fourteen years ago)

i like one song on paris hilton's album, I think it had stars in the title

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 15:15 (fourteen years ago)

can't say i much care for the rest but i did watch both seasons of her mtv show and i think she's smart and funny though nicole ritchie runs laps around her in that category

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

yeah! well you've also got "suicide" as merely "stupid pride", a somewhat hardline xtian sentiment which that indeed daring pantheism x astrology "gods are crazy / stars are blind" double whammy immediately vexes. and then yr everyday manichaean "be the devil and angel too" chaser. paris milton more like.
