watched/listened to the first three tubes. "justin bieber" is kind of funny, other two didn't do much for me. the only genuinely creepy video is the third, but that seems to be some fan thing, so i can't be too bothered.

seems like something that would genuinely appeal to someone, but i can't imagine listening to it for pleasure.

if u cant tell ive been listening to the lizzie mcguire experience on my friday night

johnny crunch, Saturday, 12 May 2012 01:58 (fourteen years ago)

okay, those are great lines, johnny. what are they from?

just relistened to the three tracks linked up top. have to admit that she's smart & funny, and i just on principle dig her POV cuz it's relatable, cleverly articulated and not often represented in her genre. still can't really "get into" this. partly it's that i don't like her voice or the way she delivers her lines, and partly it's that i feel that this music isn't for me, somehow. not that i'm forbidden to tread, but it's too far away from my frame of reference & interests. like the giggly shit and passivity probably read "real" to the people who are into it, but they just get on my nerves.

not just the track (that much is obvious), but everything about "he" smacks of OF: flow, subject matter, approach to it

apologies for repeating myself to the two of you who read my internet presence elsewhere but i dont get why we cant just treat this like Owl City, and let it be really twee and teen-appealing & popular but almost never discuss it

She's the female Main Attrakionz - with better songs and a less whiny voice.

longneck, Saturday, 12 May 2012 09:19 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, I'm totally hearing this as an attentioncore/camcore/sext-pop/baitgaze/burbcore/bratstep/adderolcore/memepop spin on cloud rap

yo that's an amazing post

The Reverend, Saturday, 12 May 2012 10:38 (fourteen years ago)

lot of clear narratives inspired by actual events/people:

undercooked but much more fun than striking a few poses lyrically speaking

of course ILX has people that would stan for this dumb garbage

thommys got bendz (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 12 May 2012 13:51 (fourteen years ago)

Define "dumb garbage" in musical terms, please. She comes up with a lot of good lines. The sound of her voice goes well with the music. So what's the problem?

If Tumblr was a person, it would sound like Kitty Pryde, and that's a good thing

BY
DAVID SHAPIRO

This morning, The FADER brought us the premiere of Kitty Pryde's "Okay Cupid" video starring the 17-year-old Daytona Beach, FL, rapper (that name sounds familiar, right?), who lit up the internet with the song when it dropped on April 11. She calls herself "the jailbait Hayley Williams of rap," and that sounds about right.

In the vein of internet superstars like Kreayshawn and Lana Del Rey, Pryde crafts tracks and videos with wide ranges of influence (hardcore rap, MacBook cameras, teen idolatry) that sound instantly appealing. But artists of this ilk raise the worthless questions that get bloggers' and commenters' blood boiling: Is it legitimate for a 17-year-old white girl with red hair to be rapping? Does liking her make you cool or lame?

Key word here - "worthless"

not really a t-bomb but kind of cute at least

it sucks.

sarahell, Saturday, 12 May 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

don't think it sucks. just don't like it much. figure it's music for teens, and they can make of it what they will.
