i've said this before but Matt's a nice guy and it's a shame he got hassled off the board.

I agree, personally. was he ever really on here tho...? I don't remember seeing him post much. He had some REALLY bad blood left over from the Fake Matador board, most of which I thought was silly.

Roger Barfing (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:32 (fourteen years ago)

xxpost

For real. He's the one who clued me in to ILX. Which I'm sure he'd apologize for profusely if he hadn't been chased off.

You Don't Throw Oranges On An Escalator (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:34 (fourteen years ago)

matt definitely posted frequently on ilx in the first half of the 2000s

some dude, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

And, yeah, he used to post here quite a bit, but it's been a long while.

he and Dom had problems

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

He was on here a lot for years but he was not well suited for the snipey hardman zing swing ilx took.

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

did he actually go to war w/ anyone? i feel like a lot of the noize dude nastiness toward him seemed to be pretty one-sided and kinda coincided w/ him posting less. i might've missed or misremembered something though.

some dude, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

it felt like what you outlined there. Though maybe he just got too busy? I always hope that's what happens to people who stop posting.

I don't think this is in any way unique to Matthew......

Essentially, they let regular civilians mp3 bloggers do what only MP3 bloggers print publications used to do: Identify music worthwhile of publication to the global consciousness and then publish it. Everybody can be an “MP3 blogger” music jounalist of sorts, by merely logging in to Spotify with Facebook signing up for blogspot.

I can only hope to someday forget Urge, MTV/Microsoft's failed attempt to use music bloggers to save the .wma file

da croupier, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

"snipey hardman zing swing" <-- these are very fun words to say together like that.

s.clover, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

still lol-ing about "regular civilians." i mean, i know this is what the mp3 bloggers look like when they get together, but come on

i tried to get a job at urge and was rejected!

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

re: urge i remember getting something in the email from some random person who was like "oh hey i've really enjoyed your posts on ILM and i would like you to offer you work writing dance reviews for MTV" and it took me about five minutes to figure out it was a scam

the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

that was no scam that was URGE

I remember Drowned in Sound when it was a review site on which they let their 16 year old writers post whatever without any kind of editorial oversight, and then after the reviews had been up for a while Sean would delete the ones that he didn't agree with. Also they had a record label that released the first ever Kaiser Chiefs single.

i probably just burned a bridge w/ someone who still reads/posts to ilx

i still call you all ilxians in my mind

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

i discovered ilx after emailing my favorite music writer (at the time) he wrote me back and said "oh hey if you like my writing you will love ILX" and then he quit ilx like weeks after i started posting

:-(

one thing i remember about mp3 blogs is everyone bitching and moaning about TOO MANY MP3s and TOO MUCH MUSIC and oh my god it's cheapening and sullying my experience of music w/ overload of choice etc etc etc

the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

like Joe Pasquale and Gandhi (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 21:07 (fourteen years ago)

Matthew started the LCD Soundsystem "Yeah" thread, which remains one of my favorite threads ever on ILM. All these people hearing the track for the first time at the same time. I remember that day so clearly.

lol this is hilarious to me cause he went all hardman on me for panning animal collective on the singles jukebox and did so on his own blog where i only saw it cause someone linked to it. so basically, lol fuck that dude.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 22:42 (fourteen years ago)

Our indifference to Animal Collective was akin to a bunch of reactionary stooges in '88 panning Daydream Nation, remember?
