is that article implying that he's from NY?

the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:10 (fourteen years ago)

seems solidly UK to me? nice interview, BW!

rob, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 23:19 (fourteen years ago)

i thought solidly london but he said something about ny in the early 00s like he'd been there

nice interview Brainwasher!

me and lex interviewed him ... jeez what, a year and a half now ago? o_O .. i think we asked a similar question about whether he wanted to write anything for a vocalist. it seems like such a natural progression.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

hey lex tell us about the jam city album

is that a ltj bukem sample on "nite life"?

the late great, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

i'm kind of not sure what i think of it!

i do like the bonus track with main attrakionz a lot

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Thursday, 10 May 2012 06:55 (fourteen years ago)

ugh that track is terrible

The Reverend, Thursday, 10 May 2012 06:59 (fourteen years ago)

really as bad an idea as it sounded on paper

The Reverend, Thursday, 10 May 2012 07:00 (fourteen years ago)

nah rev it's wonderful

the late great, Thursday, 10 May 2012 07:10 (fourteen years ago)

I really like both Main Attrakionz and Jam City but wasn't feeling that track at all unfortunatly. Looking forward to the album mind. Feels like its been in the works forever, I sware one of the Night Slugs guys said it was ready to go in 2010. They must have done a do over or something.

jimitheexploder, Thursday, 10 May 2012 07:53 (fourteen years ago)

If nothing else a Jam City / Main Atrakiionz collabo is a good candidate for any 2012 time capsule.

Tim F, Thursday, 10 May 2012 07:58 (fourteen years ago)

tbh the new girl unit ep has kinda overshadowed the jam city album in terms of my attention - "ensemble" and "club rez" really are stunning, and i love that there's no attempt to even go near trying to recreate "wut" - is anyone else using the EP format so well right now?

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Thursday, 10 May 2012 08:09 (fourteen years ago)

how do you mean?

and where is FINAL JOOST?!?

the late great, Thursday, 10 May 2012 14:37 (fourteen years ago)

man, that isley bros sample (replayed?) at the end of "double take". i don't think it's possible to sample "summer breeze" and fuck it up.

The Reverend, Friday, 11 May 2012 04:27 (fourteen years ago)

and "club rez" just totally rulez

The Reverend, Friday, 11 May 2012 04:28 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't know what thread to use for this. it's not on night slugs or anything but hearing it for the first time was overwhelming in a similar way to the first time i heard "wut". just that incredible melody pealing out

http://soundcloud.com/localactionrecords/blue-sleet-soundcloud-clip

there's another track on the ep called "fat city" which might be even better

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 14 May 2012 21:02 (fourteen years ago)

i got double-clubrezzed at the clurrrrb the other night (including as the last song of the night). so epic.

lex you said upthread something about night slugs using the EP format better than anyone else, still trying to figure out what you mean by that and why you said it, seems like they use the format more or less like any other dance artist

the late great, Monday, 14 May 2012 22:32 (fourteen years ago)

That new Slackk EP on Local Action is indeed a beast. He's really nailed those fucked up synth melodies. Almost Transparent is ace too, the subtler synths work a treat on that one.

jimitheexploder, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

I think he meant Girl Unit himself rather than Night Slugs? But yeah I don't really get the point.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 08:56 (fourteen years ago)

Is Ensemble (Club Mix) meant to sound like 'In Your Arms' by Mylo?

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Saturday, 19 May 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

ikonika's new i make lists EP is finally out and it's incredible, maybe the best thing she's done yet - the melodies are just mind-blowing, the way she makes the synths sing, and the amount of cavernous space around them...

Just came back from the Night Slugs/Fade To Mind showcase at SXSW. Saw Nguzunguzu, Kingdom w/Kelala, L-Vis and Bok Bok. The whole night was good, but L-Vis/Bok Bok were the highlight, and yes, they did Bring In Da Katz.

Moodles, Saturday, 16 March 2013 07:11 (thirteen years ago)

speaking of Bok, his new Fade to Mind mix is very good (and ends with 151 Feva Gang!)

saw Bok last night, he played a good but predictable set to a small, fairly wack crowd with too many dudes. I went to the monthly rare soul night at the same club last weekend and it was way more popping :/

Fred by Durst (The Reverend), Saturday, 4 May 2013 17:15 (thirteen years ago)

what'd he play?

the late great, Saturday, 4 May 2013 19:43 (thirteen years ago)

All the stuff I recognized was ns/ftm, some of which was p old ("irl" "stalker ha"), some new ("bank head", "ballad 4ad"). The stuff I didn't recognize was either on the techy side or ballroom trax

Fred by Durst (The Reverend), Saturday, 4 May 2013 20:07 (thirteen years ago)

ah yeah

i've heard a ton of good things about bok bok as a DJ but have yet to hear a set that really blows me away

the late great, Saturday, 4 May 2013 23:09 (thirteen years ago)

The other time I saw him (sept. '11) he was amazing tho

Fred by Durst (The Reverend), Saturday, 4 May 2013 23:48 (thirteen years ago)

Heh. The promoter has euphemistically described last night's show as "cozy". And apparently RL Grime has sold out the same spot tonight.

Fred by Durst (The Reverend), Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:02 (thirteen years ago)

Fisher 18-29 (62.1%) from 3 in playoffs.

classical curves i mean

brimstead, Sunday, 22 December 2013 10:54 (twelve years ago)

Classical Curves is so weird but so good. Also really enjoying the new Egyptrixx album, feels a lot more intimate than I would expect from Night Slugs.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 22 December 2013 20:51 (twelve years ago)

i haven't really figured it out yet

the late great, Sunday, 22 December 2013 20:52 (twelve years ago)

I'm still trying to absorb it too. So far it strikes me as much more of a straight up techno direction compared to the last one.
