Flux = Sad

It woulda had that exact text if I'd spent more than five minutes doctoring the original illustration.
I was worried Fluxblog would wind up being a casualty of this current blog assault. RIP blogs, indeed. At least Matthew has other gigs now.

dunno, seemed sort of reckless for him to post those ridiculously large "year overview" things recently. literally thousands of songs, all (or at least most) commercially available.
― tylerw, Monday, 7 May 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, that was a lot of what worried me. They were awesome, but still, probably not the best time to do it.

Sadly, this is turning out to be pretty true. Third hand information, but I heard through a friend of a friend this weekend that he got a cease and desist email for posting album covers on his blog.

tbh this kind of thing has looked like an inevitability for at the very least 4-5 years now. i tried to stop posting anything that might make my sites a target way back then, i just hope they're only really paying attention to things that were posted recently but i don't know if that's naive to think.

Google gives me this:
Fluxblogwww.fluxblog.org/1 day ago – BUY Chloramphenicol ONLINE NO PRESCRIPTION.
I think that rather than being shut down for sharing mp3s he might have been shut down by the pharma hack. Giving him a tweet... maybe it helps.

Back up now, so maybe not an RIAA thing.

No, remember that MBV group of blogs that Ryan Catbird put together? Well, the hosting went out and Ryan was incommunicado.

heh i just got a DMCA complaint notification on my blogger account. of course it doesn't say WHAT post they took down, but it's probably a really old one from years ago when i sporadically posted mp3s. anyone have an idea how at risk i am for getting the whole thing taken down or if i should just start deleting any old expired mp3 link just to be safe, or is this all guesswork right now?

http://evolver.fm/2012/04/04/legendary-music-blogger-sean-adams-on-slow-death-of-mp3-blogging/this actually seems pretty dumb to me. o god, what will happen if everyone can be an mp3 blogger.

lo, we will look back on the golden age of mp3 blogging, where people downloaded just one or two tracks and then forgot about them.

remember when that one critic dude put up his mp3 playlists as albums of the year in pazz & jop? that was truly mind-blowing.
― the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:15 (fourteen years ago)
Adams: There’s no problem with it, but I do think you need to have listened to a certain amount of music to be able to state that something is the best thing around right now.
this article is gold

lol
If writing about music is like “dancing about architecture,” as the now-hackneyed phrase would have it, music blogging is like walking through buildings with an architectural expert.

wait wouldn't that be reading music blogs?
― the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:18 (fourteen years ago)
ha yes. i dunno, i've enjoyed some mp3 blogs like anyone else, but giving the these bloggers some kind of mystical "tastemaker" status is seriously the lamest thing. who cares.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)
they were tastemakers for about five minutes when the taste was mash ups and bedroom electro pop
― the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:30 (fourteen years ago)
not to be a dick but as one of the early guys with this nonsense, i don't even really remember drowning in sound?the "tastemaker" thing was by far the dumbest aspect of this miniblipmovement.

and this shit had ground down to a nub about three years ago already?http://www.themorningnews.org/article/music-bloggers-roundtable-redux
― (Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:57 (fourteen years ago)
i don't know drowning in sound either. yeah, i liked this "movement" because it let people share their own little niches of musical interest, not because i wanted to hear the latest brooklyn band.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:58 (fourteen years ago)
i remember Drowned in Sound as an unreadably ugly Britishes Indie site tbh
