FEATURING CHICAGO ARTIST
― frogbs in the trap (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:39 (twelve years ago) link
are you familiar with my decade-long crusade against people in hip hop constantly using the word "artist" without an s at the end as if it's plural
― some dude, Sunday, 6 May 2012 22:47 (twelve years ago) link
lol, yes. yes i am.

is this the first time meek mill has done a "meek will inherit the earth" line?
― liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 09:14 (twelve years ago) link
"burn" is O_O amazing
the first meek song that hooked me in had church bells as a beat too, "gasoline". more people should do that
― liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 09:21 (twelve years ago) link
"a1 everything" is stunning as well
oh god people misspelling "used to be" as "use to be" is such a pet hate of mine WHYYYYYYYY

Meek Mill tapes sound like they have a lot of work going into them. Maybe one day I'll listen to one twice
― suidavyvan eht nioj (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 15:11 (twelve years ago) link
as opposed to...lil b tapes that sound like there's no effort going into them?
i find meek mill effortlessly enjoyable and listenable - i guess it sags towards the end but yknow it's a mixtape. the high points are stunning
― liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 16:25 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, i prefer it to the first dreamchasers... i think you get a bit better sense of who he is as an artist
― frogbs in the trap (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 17:30 (twelve years ago) link
1st dream chasers is wayyy better. nothing on this touches 'im a boss' or 'middle of the summer' or 'tony story'
― man down (D-40), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:36 (twelve years ago) link
This seems more consistent though
― Number None, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:37 (twelve years ago) link
yeah this is more consistent... i'd buy the argument that there's not a "middle of the summer" or a "tony story" but there's a lot of average songs on there w/ beats and hooks that could've been on half the mixtapes that come out in any given week
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:40 (twelve years ago) link
this one starts to fall off after "the ride" but until that it's much stronger up and down -- the production is a lot more distinct, for one
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:41 (twelve years ago) link
i dunno. i'm looking for something i'll actually want to hear on the radio all year round. too many 'lean wit it's not enough 'i'm a boss's
― man down (D-40), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link
"lean wit it" has grown on me. still need to hear the tape, though.
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago) link
well "i'ma boss" was off the MMG comp -- it was just thrown onto 'dreamchasers' bcuz it was already a hit
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:52 (twelve years ago) link
i mean if he can make the banger of the year two years in a row by some miracle i'll give him longer than mid-may to come up with it, but generally i just want him to not totally fuck up on the road to having a retail album
xpost
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago) link
i think the track with big sean is awesome and could be as big a radio as hit as "tupac back" or "house party"
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link
and i love "amen"
such is my optimism that i am even willing to take the statement "the track with big sean is awesome" at face value
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:02 (twelve years ago) link
the track with big sean may actually be the best thing on the mixtape
i didn't hear anything to rival "ima boss" in the banger stakes or even "middle of da summer" in big-sounding emotion - i wouldn't say it's a step up as such but it's a step that keeps things interesting w/r/t the position MM is carving out for himself
― liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:08 (twelve years ago) link
i LIKE 'lean wit it' but its just like .. .straight bangers like that that are big & aggressive & alright
the big sean is cool but its the same thing, real aggressive but not really a great single
amen is cool but i dont really feel it like that

LOL the first dreamchasers is like the most consistent mixtape of the past 2 or 3 years, easy. the new one is pretty good, but it sorta feels just like 1 but with all the real talk/personal songs stripped out and replaced with big name features that i don't really give a shit about.
― een, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 07:59 (twelve years ago) link
so Big Sean is pretty widely hated then? I'm not too familiar with his stuff and he has an annoying voice but i think he's pretty damn good on "Burn"

i had really resigned myself to the idea that he was going to spend the rest of his life in jail and never make another song, even when i heard the news yesterday i kinda felt happy more just about the moral victory of the prosecution not getting away with using his lyrics against him in court. so that's great to hear.
