tim h, Wednesday, 9 November 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

Hey, y'all, I'll probably post another updated torrent tomorrow including a lot of the tracks from the past few days.

Stan Meissner, Wednesday, 9 November 2005 03:06 (twenty years ago)

Stan I've got another six files to add tomorrow if you want to wait for those?

DomesticEmpire (johnpeeleveryday.blogspot.com), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

DomesticEmpire, are these from the singles you purchased? How did that go?

patita (patita), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 05:46 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Patita for the reposts! Lovely.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

New wants list.

Notes:
1. I've added a couple of previously unlisted B-sides:
- White Stripes - The Gift of the Magi/Silent Night (Merry Christmas EP)
- The Dirtbombs - Cedar Point '76 (White Stripes "Hand Springs")
2. "Clague" is actually an early Kevin Coyne band called Siren; the single was mistakenly credited, and both tracks subsequently turned up on Siren albums.
3. I can supply the Sheena Easton and Quads B-sides later.
4. The Ken Colyer tracks that we've got are only excerpts.
5. I have the Meow single - Neko Case's band from the mid-90's. I'll post it in the next 24 hours.

we've had the 124 b sides, i think the White Stripes Christmas Message mp3 was actually all three tracks (they were dreadful!)

revelino is in the post, hopefully. and tim has mentioned having a copy of the geater davis...

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

It was a zip file, but shortly I'll post the 'magi/night' mp3 here.

It looks right although I've not been able to listen to it yet :0(

arbo, Wednesday, 9 November 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

I have an mp3 of the Dirtbombs - Cedar Point 76 from the split with White Stripes. I'll sort that out when I get home from work.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

You've still got the Users B-side listed as missing - did you miss this post?

Shit I didn't notice you were missing the Users b-side or I'd have uploaded that ages ago:

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Some of the Meow (Maow?) tracks are included on their only CD, which I think I have somewhere. "One Night Stand" definitely is on it...will try to find it if the single doesn't turn up.

C. O'Leary (jparker), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

Here's "Cedar Point 76" - great song - didn't realize that was a split w/ the White Stripes.

http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=13F36LFAQMN1O0DQXVD69JB560

I lost a few files somehow - can I bother somebody to resend the following:
Golinsky Brothers - Bloody
O Superman - Laurie Anderson
Bafflin Smoke Signal - Lee Scratch
YMCA - Galactic Symposium

Also - for anybody that's missing some of the earlier posts, I'd be happy to repost anything.

And finally - now that this has been going on for a couple weeks, does anybody have a favorite that they didn't know before? Me: Starting All Over Again - Mel & Tim - what an incredible song.

TRG (TRG), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

I haven't kept up since the last torrent - assuming there would be another.. But everything from the last torrent is @ slsk (including the ones you just listed, i think.) TRG, I was going to swipe the later updates from you & create a new torrent, but it looks like Stan's on it.

124 The White Stripes - The Gift of the Magi/Silent Night

I've posted that one already - in the Merry Christmas EP zip. (I can post it again if needed)

Yoz, Wednesday, 9 November 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

NOT the record itself but some info regarding the Meow 7'' plus a nice piccy of the sleeve.

http://www.peekaboorecords.com/news/2005/11/twist-like-this-7-in-john-peels-time.html

It may help in presenting a lead to somewhere.....

----¦ Apology Corner ¦----
Sorry for delay in those other tracks but I've had a shitty day and can't be arsed to do all the processing. Maybe tomorrow. Yes they are the eb*y records in question Patita. I've not uploaded yet because I had trouble getting my turntable to run at the correct speed. It's working now though still temperamental. Needs stripping down and having a good clean and maybe replacing the belt. Anyway I uploaded the Cheeze and Roy Head as you will have seen but the eb*y 45's have a LOT of surface noise which required a little software assisted 'cleaning'. I might add some 'off-topic' records later. I've got some great records here as a result of Peel. Maybe I'll do a podcast-type-thing - always fancied the idea.

Ooh, a podcast! That would be very keen--please let me know when you do get it together.

Don't feel pressured, Domestic Empire--we know you have them, and that vinyl ripping can be a delicate art (says one who has a pile of about 20 things sitting here waiting to be ripped). We've got many others to find in the meantime!

patita (patita), Thursday, 10 November 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

Would anyone like a load of folders?

You know, with the numbers, artist names etc?

I can (I think) make a zip file, then you can move files you've got into them.

Yoz, Thursday, 10 November 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Thanks all the same Mark but personally I'm keeping everything in one folder to see exactly what I have and be able to dive in with a media player and hit random. Though I still sort certain things into sub-folders on my drives I've found that recently, (it could be an age thing), Im losing track of things down to how they're compartmentalised.

Incidentily, and perhaps somewhat paradoxicaly, there is a great little piece of software that's free and doesn't require any installation called File Sieve that will "..take the files from a directory and copy or move them into a new folder, while creating subfolders from A-Z and sorting the files into them based on their name (first letter)." Quicker than you can say 'compartmentalisationaly-challenged' or, 'bollox that was quick'.

The guy is a very active developer and it's worth checking out his other software.

> Would anyone like a load of folders?
> You know, with the numbers, artist names etc?

it does kinda annoy me, the thought that people will upload things that require everyone else to rename, mp3 tag and file and that mark's idea is something we needed but i guess it's too late to impose some kind of scheme now. (don't even get me started on the rar files 8)

(and is it a windows thing that people like having lots of folders with 2 or 3 files in each? i find one directory with lots of (well named) files much easier to use - less clicking on those tiny open / close boxes in directory trees, less very long path names)

no sign of carrier pigeon or the kindly Amazon elves and no time last night to extract the sirens. maybe tomorrow. (although it's melt banana tonight so...)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 10 November 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

Well, I really just did this on a quiet moment, along with the moving in of mp3s and opening zip files etc.

Side 1: Kat Nip, One Nite Stand, Anthem

Side 2: Kill Kill Kill, One Nite Stand, Boy Groupies

Where are they now file: Tobey (guitar/vocals) is in The Gay, Neko (drums) is being Neko Case and you can see some charming pictures of CC (bass/vocals) here http://www.thesmugglers.com/beez_chapter_2.htm in India with her other half, Beez of the Smugglers.

Also, Side 1's YSILink shows side 2's title and vice versa (or something), I don't know if the track titles match the music or what.
