That sagittarius track nominated above is actually pittman and theo's track.

Rick wilhite – Drum Patterns & Memories (Moodymann Remix)
Moodymann - it's too late 4 u and me
Rick wilhite - get on up (theo parrish remix)
Helium robots - jarza (theo parrish translation 1)
Rhythm & sound - free for all (soundstream remix)

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 21 April 2012 23:59 (fourteen years ago)

A lot of Theo and Moodymann tracks which I think of as 00s tracks, when i check all first came out in the late 90s.

Tim F, Sunday, 22 April 2012 00:02 (fourteen years ago)

this is such a depressing thread

Lamp, Sunday, 22 April 2012 00:06 (fourteen years ago)

why do you say that, lamp?

tim - i was wondering about that too, also even though i'm a huge fan i think it's easy to acknowledge that their 90s work fairly blows away their 00s work, though theo has been having a slight renaissance lately

it would be interesting to try to work with some sort of geometric mean system - that way a track that got a 20th place vote and a 30th place vote would average at 24.5 pts whereas a track that got two 25th place votes would average at 25 pts

we would then need to, uh, de-normalize the means by multiplying up by the number of votes

going to mall w/ gf to "shop for new jeans" (for her), will try to do the back of envelope calculation to see how this might play out while "we" shop for jeans

idk just ppls lists so far itt, seems p joyless or s.thing, no sense of play or adventure just cataloging of xp deathless listmaking forever blah blah blah

i mean i love making lists of things it brings order and meaning but i guess well see how this turns out

Lamp, Sunday, 22 April 2012 01:51 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i agree w/ you that i'm not much enthused by the majority of noms but didn't feel it would be politic to point that out

the late great, Sunday, 22 April 2012 02:41 (fourteen years ago)

Well if I nominated what I actually liked no one would vote for it.

50 dubstep tracks and a bunch of ultra obscure deep house is just going to add to that long tail.

what do you mean? there's enough personal favorites and rather obscure tracks posted here. and the fun is when the voting begins anyway.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 22 April 2012 04:08 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think think this thread is boring at all, this will be my first poll like this to be a part of because the music meant a lot to me. looking forward to the final list to choose from cause i know i forgot a lot of tracks. lots of trapez and perlon i'm forgetting.

Herbert - Moving Like A Train (Smith N' Hack Remix)

I've been having a good time w/this or w/e because I've been able to dig out setlists from 06 house parties or mixtape tracklistings from 03 or primeval ILx threads about Areal from the two-three years where I only had internet access at netcafes or songs I remember from the two times someone from Kompakt came to NZ to DJ during that decade &c&c&c. Admittedly this isn't coming through by just listing tracks, but I figure once the nominations are sorted we can start advocating things.

Er I'm w/V4hid on the possibility of a geometric mean system or something as an alternative to the standard ILx vote weighting system, but I don't have a lot to contribute math-wise.

etc, Sunday, 22 April 2012 07:50 (fourteen years ago)

Henrik Scharz, Ame, Dixon - Where We At?

Herbert - Moving Like A Train (Smith N' Hack Remix)
aw man, how could i forget this. definite rump shaker if there ever was one.

Henrik Scharz, Ame, Dixon - Where We At?
dude, seriously :(

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:23 (fourteen years ago)

What, I like it?

Or at least I did like 2 years ago when I played it last.

pattern loader, Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:37 (fourteen years ago)

I've been going through a transition between Europhile to American house head recently, maybe I wouldn't like it any more. Lot of FXHE records to listen to.

pattern loader, Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:39 (fourteen years ago)

That's a mega huge track and you didn't think someone had posted it? No beef though, just find it funny.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:40 (fourteen years ago)

Hey, I did a search even. I blame my crappy phone.

pattern loader, Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:46 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway I'm banned from participating, ignore me.

pattern loader, Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:48 (fourteen years ago)

That's a mega huge track and you didn't think someone had posted it?

Ha, this is exactly why this poll is going to be awesome (for me at least). I have a lot of favorite tracks in this genre, but there's so much I haven't heard (including said "mega huge track").

sockless in moccasins (jaymc), Sunday, 22 April 2012 08:58 (fourteen years ago)

Its probably my favorite song of the last decade, it was posted in good faith and naivety.

pattern loader, Sunday, 22 April 2012 09:03 (fourteen years ago)

i nominate all the grime

azealia canks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 22 April 2012 09:12 (fourteen years ago)

Re: scoring, there's nothing really wrong with the system used in the artists polls (40,36,33,30,28,26,24,22,20,19... or something like that) - you can start with biggish gaps between the top ten and then have much smaller gaps lower down. I would imagine that for most people your 18th and 19th placed tracks are pretty much interchangeable position-wise so there's no reason to have much of a points differential.

Let's Talk About Socks (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:14 (fourteen years ago)

Lamp I don't know what level of excitement or insight you were expecting from a nominations thread, they tend to be just lists really. The fun bit starts with the campaigning and countdown.

Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:23 (fourteen years ago)

As the first nomination poll on ILX I feel qualified to participate in, I'm excited! Though voting is going to be interesting - I was going over my top 50 list from February 2010 and there's definitely stuff that's probably wouldn't make a top 100 today. Also, I'm gonna have to be strategic, though.

EDB, Sunday, 22 April 2012 12:58 (fourteen years ago)

Is there a deadline for this nominations thread? I don't keep lists and I don't have time to sift through boxes of vinyl at the moment.. but here's a few that I've picked out again recently;

re: vote systems

i am a math hobbyist so i am just having fun with it

the late great, Sunday, 22 April 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

ok, a quick look at "limiting cases" reveals the geometric mean system to be a surprisingly terrible idea. it seems to work pretty well at rewarding consistency when the spread is not crazy.

but consider the following situation

track A receives three first place votes. using a normal point system, the geometric mean comes out to 50 points, and multiplying up by three gives us 150 points. you get the same result using the geometric mean system.

track B receives three first place and one fiftieth-place vote. this should give track B a tiny "edge" on track A, but instead the geometric mean comes out to about 18.8 which gives it about 75 points overall!!

the late great, Sunday, 22 April 2012 19:50 (fourteen years ago)

i think the geometric mean system would work well if we did the sort of thing where we narrowed it down to the same 50 finalists and then *everybody* ranked those same 50 tracks, but the way the poll is set up right now it doesn't make sense at all.

Pilooski is not eligible.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 22 April 2012 20:54 (fourteen years ago)

uh, why not?

not saying i necessarily disagree, but i think you should be giving reasons why rather than just flatly stating it.

the late great, Sunday, 22 April 2012 20:56 (fourteen years ago)

like i understand that on the surface it seems like, ok, it's just an edit of a 50s doowop track or whatever, but then again i see on your list you nominated a mark e track which is itself just an edit and joakims remix of camino del sol and floating points vacuum boogie, both of which seem much less "dancey" than the "beggin" remix

and besides, the "beggin" remix was a club smash and conceptually not so different from, say, a lot of moodymann tracks

the late great, Sunday, 22 April 2012 21:00 (fourteen years ago)

sorry, i missed all the discussion upthread about disco edits etc

♆ (gr8080), Sunday, 22 April 2012 21:02 (fourteen years ago)

personally i think it makes sense to include disco edits because 1) sort of a defining feature and major trend of 00s dance and 2) can't figure out a logically consistent place to draw a line between filter/loop disco house and edits.
