REALLY?!

NOT THE POINT, ANYWAY

end caps lock

heiswagger (rennavate), Friday, 20 April 2012 21:22 (fourteen years ago)

ok

l0u1s j0rdan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 20 April 2012 21:41 (fourteen years ago)

well, good lyricism has nothing to do with complexity or simplicity imo, it's just about good writing x good delivery. good writing by itself doesn't do it or it's not really a lyric so much as a poem, but good delivery is potent enough & immediate enough to make less interesting writing sound/feel better than it is often. (this isn't at all unique to rap I don't think, it drove me nuts about rock when I was a kid that songs where the vocalist was just in a killer pocket (Paul Rogers is, like, a fondly-remembered chief offender here) would feel so fuckin real and then you look at what he's saying and go OH. THANKS. YOU LIKE TO ROCK. FANTASTIC)

I do know in some lyrics-focused rap dudes' minds it's not great lyricism unless it's really blowing minds but that's not what I mean, I'm more or less just looking to avoid things like deej's "hmm, what's the rhyme I need...'block'...cool, I'll just get out the glock again, who doesn't like some glock"

it should be said that my demands on lyricists in all genres are completely unrealistic & ridiculous and this will never change btw so like grain of salt here

word, word

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Monday, 23 April 2012 06:43 (fourteen years ago)

This Chief Keef thing is getting out of control. the vultures are swarming

man down (D-40), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:50 (fourteen years ago)

that doesn't sound right, i would've gone with "circling" or "flocking"

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

flockaing

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 April 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

flocking is probably closer, circling a bit too relaxed.

diplo shouted out his 'homie' chief keef on twitter this morning "#realtrapshit"

man down (D-40), Monday, 23 April 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

lol

Poor Turrican (some dude), Monday, 23 April 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

that mush millions/twista is great

l0u1s j0rdan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 23 April 2012 17:29 (fourteen years ago)

kudos 2 brandon

man down (D-40), Monday, 23 April 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

really enjoying the kevin gates mixtape, like a more pop-attuned juvenile.

heiswagger (rennavate), Monday, 23 April 2012 19:43 (fourteen years ago)

so what do the goons think of future's album ? the first 3 songs are a bit average but the rest is good to incredible.

right now i'm in love with 'truth gonna hurt you'
https://twitter.com/#!/LITO615/status/194484014323736576
it makes so much sense to me that (one of) my favortie rapper(s) likes it too.

the other great songs are what mike will produced (he is definitely the best producer of the moment), i'm trippin & permanent scar.

sisilafami, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

p. sure i heard dj khaled of all people give a shout out to "chiraq drillinois" recently. love "bars" by the way.

i like future's new album, bit more polished than "true story" which got mixed reviews on here. not super different in terms of future's input but the production is v. good

chilli, Monday, 23 April 2012 21:29 (fourteen years ago)

Pluto is great.

heiswagger (rennavate), Monday, 23 April 2012 21:37 (fourteen years ago)

Pluto is awesome.

longneck, Monday, 23 April 2012 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

i like most of pluto especially the r kelly track - apart from that the bangers are better than the garbled spaceballads

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Monday, 23 April 2012 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

The R Kelly track feels totally out of place to me. Makes sense to get it out of the way, but sort of an awful way to start after the Big Rube intro. And I like the track.

heiswagger (rennavate), Monday, 23 April 2012 22:39 (fourteen years ago)

the kells track has grown on me -- before hearing it i was seeing delusions of something on the level of "i'ma flirt" or w/e, but i'm okay w/ it being a better "booty wurk"

i'm partial to the garbled spaceballads, but some of the bangers really kill ("permanent scar" and the one w/ snoop are the only ones i skip)

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 April 2012 23:03 (fourteen years ago)

<3 'neva end'

johnny crunch, Monday, 23 April 2012 23:18 (fourteen years ago)

my favs are "turn on the lights," "truth gonna hurt you" and "straight up"

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 April 2012 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

oh and "you deserve it" obv

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 April 2012 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

Has anyone pointed out the sheer audacity of immediately following the Big Rube track with the Kells track yet? The man seeks out contradiction and conflict.

longneck, Monday, 23 April 2012 23:22 (fourteen years ago)

That's such a power move. People seem to hate it though. Too confusing.

longneck, Monday, 23 April 2012 23:23 (fourteen years ago)

("permanent scar" and the one w/ snoop are the only ones i skip)

wtf 'permanent scar' is one of the best on the album

also not sure whats so objectionable abt the kells song really

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 01:02 (fourteen years ago)

n-e-way i think pluto is dope

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 01:03 (fourteen years ago)

yeah kells song is dope, although maybe i partly like it because it's been a while since he had a goofy uptempo joint like that

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 01:05 (fourteen years ago)

Guys.....so....um....The Goodie Mob reunion on The Voice.....the horror.....it was....like....the...worst thing.....I've ever seen

l0u1s j0rdan (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 02:39 (fourteen years ago)

oh you've got to be kidding me that that was a thing

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 02:44 (fourteen years ago)

i watched a few minutes of The Voice but instead what i saw was Cee-Lo in a long black wig singing "Dancing In The Street"

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 02:59 (fourteen years ago)

oh fucking no

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

fuck you cee-lo

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:53 (fourteen years ago)

i'm almost kind of impressed that that was as garbage as anyone could possibly imagine

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 03:58 (fourteen years ago)

man what the teetotal fuck

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

1) what is this i can't even
2) i guess the light up grills are kinda cool?
3) maybe like all the guys got real paid for this at least?
4) seriously what is this i can't even

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:12 (fourteen years ago)

they've reunited like a gazillion times already so at least that's not what this is i guess

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:13 (fourteen years ago)

well i mean this is the run up for their first album w/ the original lineup in 10+ years

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:18 (fourteen years ago)

yeah but in theory that's what the 3am times square show I saw them do in 2009 was supposed to be for too

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:20 (fourteen years ago)

one of the most hilarious parts of the video is how much the light-up grill fucks up cee-lo's diction

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:21 (fourteen years ago)

My wife loved it \O_o/

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:23 (fourteen years ago)

you might've noticed that cee-lo is much much much more famous now than he was in '09 and there's a lot of clamoring to release whatever project he wants to work on, and that this performance was on a highly rated television show (that cee-lo stars in) xpost

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:25 (fourteen years ago)

I was laughing so hard and she was like "what... I think its kind of awesome, you're so weird"

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:25 (fourteen years ago)

it's hysterical because they were so clearly trying to be everything to everyone and ended up with something that neither the old goodie fans nor the new cee-lo solo fans could possibly embrace

Poor Turrican (some dude), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:27 (fourteen years ago)

So true.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:27 (fourteen years ago)

otm

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:28 (fourteen years ago)

the upside is that i can sorta square myself with this being the bizarro world al is talking about and still hope the album will have some worthwhile music

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 04:30 (fourteen years ago)
