Anyone know if I would be able to sell my tickets if I absolutely needed to?

I'm listening to the Glider EP right now. It sounds really good.

tylerw, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

hah, $52 for Roseland, I'll keep my '92 show memories, I guess.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

lucky

silkworm exploding, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I understand the skepticism, but the new Portishead album has completely renewed my faith in formerly great bands that vanish for a decade and return better than ever.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

So, they're remastering the albums too now! I have mixed feelings about there being no extra material... On one hand I can still feel proud to have all of the out of print EPs and make my friends jealous, but on the other hand, having those remastered and put on as bonuses would be nice too...

So, assuming i get a ticket to the L.A. show #2:

Given the huge history of failed promises on MBV's part for the last 17 years, I'm going in assuming this MBV reunion will be like the Black Flag reunion, if this happens.

On the other hand, I'll be visiting momz that 4-day weekend. I'll be seeing a whole bunch of friends at the show I haven't seen in ages coming from all over Southern California. And I don't need a ride from a friend for this. I can bus over there and cab back, thanks to this being in Santa Monica. Shrug.

Elvis OTM all over the place, although as a minor counterpoint, I think it will be cool to see the MBV relic in a 2008 audience, even if it's predictable. People will still have reactions they don't expect to the You Made Me Realise blowout -- *if* they do that song -- *if* they manage to actually execute this tour -- *if* etc. Best case scenario is MBV pulling out stuff they never did before, tho.

I'm more concerned about other details, like no comfirmation of Colm being in this, and the fragility of it all, going back to the failed promises thing.

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yes I just saw Big Dipper after their 15+ year hiatus and they were so tight and absolutely rocked. So its possible!

silkworm exploding, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

It's official - I'm going to ATP NY. Anyone have any idea how many "batches" of tickets they're going to release?

Reatards Unite, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to the debate on whether the masters are too loud or not. Seems about 50/50 that they will make them sound worse, judging by how these things usually go.

Mark Rich@rdson, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 18:01 (eighteen years ago)

Reatards Unite, buy the tickets. I just got a pair for my girlfriend and myself, no lodging included. You can figure out the lodging details later on. Sure it's a big fucking nostalgia trip, but it's gonna be a blast regardless. Especially for someone like me, who didn't get to see many of these bands back in the '90s.

-- stephen, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 19:12 (Yesterday) Link

do you know what the lodging details aside from staying on site are? I only got the tickets too, and was kind of banking on either camping out as close as possible, or uhhh discreetly finding a way to stick around all 3 days. . .

Michael_Pemulis, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 23:48 (eighteen years ago)

or, of course, the option of finding cute girls who like mbv staying on site and .........

Michael_Pemulis, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

do you know what the lodging details aside from staying on site are?

There's about a dozen hotels in Monticello about 10 miles from the festival. Cheap ones are all filled up already. I dunno yet, I think I'm gonna book a hotel just to have *something* reserved, then look for other options in the meantime.

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 02:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm either going to camp or try to borrow my mom's SUV and sleep in the back. I simply can't afford a hotel at this point.

Reatards Unite, Thursday, 8 May 2008 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

While the Isn't Anything remaster spans only one disc, the Loveless one comes as a double-disc: the first disc remastered from both DAT (digital audio tape) and analogue tape, and the second remastered from just analogue tape. No needless bonus cuts or anything, just two gems in all their pristine, self-contained glory.

Hmm...

Mark G, Thursday, 8 May 2008 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

How do you remaster from DAT *and* analogue tape?

Mark G, Thursday, 8 May 2008 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

You can't. Remastering is a purely atomic function all done by one guy named Lazlo who lives in a closet in Cal Tech. Now you know.

Mackro Mackro, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Everybody wants to remaster the world.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

surprise of the year lolz

Mackro Mackro, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:15 (eighteen years ago)

For all the talk about this fest being stuck in the '90s... it looks like ATP did a great job selecting a lot of newer stuff (Autolux, Growing, Wooden Shjips, Fuck Buttons, Silver Mt Zion, Drones, Om, Edan) whereas if anyone is truly stuck in the '90s... it's gotta be MBV, sorry.

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

You won't see me disagree!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

i'm assuming MBV is gonna add some more bands to their Sunday lineup, and i'd love to see something current that they're really into. (although in the case of more '90s stuff... i'd really like to see Aphex Twin. or maybe Earth. i dunno.)

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

wasn't Kevin a big Birthday Party fan, also? why doesn't he add Nick Cave circa 2008, who's touring this year?

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

Spiritualized maybe?

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

okay i'm done wishing aloud here

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

MBV and Aphex Twin are playing together 2 weeks before

gabbneb, Thursday, 8 May 2008 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

Spiritualized maybe?

Heh, Spiritualized is opening for Nick Cave out here.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 8 May 2008 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

more bands being added Sunday:

Buffalo Tom
The Charlottes
Cud
Carnival Art

Mackro Mackro, Thursday, 8 May 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

stephen, Thursday, 8 May 2008 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

Hey you're so wrong, I don't see Northside on that list.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

Smashing Orange just added.

Northside couldn't get visas worked out.

Mackro Mackro, Thursday, 8 May 2008 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

Just in: Damon from Swirlies (DJ Set)

call all destroyer, Friday, 9 May 2008 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

I thought tickets were on sale today for LA but now I see it's tomorrow.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 May 2008 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

Who amongst you is going to the second Manchester night (29th?)

Thomas, Friday, 9 May 2008 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

Dammit I just saw that Negative Approach are playing in Camden on the 24th June, but that's the night I'm seeing MBV. How inconsiderate of them.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 9 May 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

I have a ticket for the NYC show on the 22nd. Super pumped, but I better not be let down, Mr. Shields.

jonathan - stl, Friday, 9 May 2008 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like it's mostly the "bands chosen by My Bloody Valentine" left to be announced at ATP - I hope they choose something other than more 90s shoegaze-related bands. Wouldn't be surprised if Sonic Youth played, although I don't care much either way about that.

Reatards Unite, Friday, 9 May 2008 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

O the sight if this was actually an O.G. MBV reunion... meaning the band that recorded This Is Your Bloody Valentine. surprise buttsecks.

Mackro Mackro, Friday, 9 May 2008 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

hahahahaha
