Just listening to that Ewan Pearson mix. There's something about his mixes which I love, despite a lot of the tracks in isolation being ones I would probably avoid like the plague if I heard them, he's very talented weaving together a unified sound.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 19 April 2012 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

his dj set a few years ago was probably the best clubbing experience I've ever experienced.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 19 April 2012 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

Having said that the Carl Craig Remix of 'Use Me Again' is pointless to begin with, and is made even worse by the mixing with the bleeps.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 19 April 2012 11:53 (fourteen years ago)

forgot one

listening to levon's fabric now. some transitions could be a little more seamless don't you think? http://soundcloud.com/fabric/fabric-63-levon-vincent

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 20 April 2012 08:03 (fourteen years ago)

not sure about the flow either..

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 20 April 2012 08:19 (fourteen years ago)

Which transitions in particular? I've only had it on a couple of times when I've been working and can remember there being some sudden shifts in mood, but I can't remember hearing anything I would call a trainwreck.

Hawt

coal, Friday, 20 April 2012 08:48 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not saying there's a trainwreck but some transitions are just too fast and sudden, like track 1 to track 2. And the flow isn't so hot either. Maybe this is what happens when you plan to make a mix with your and your friends' tracks only.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 20 April 2012 08:54 (fourteen years ago)

To be fair, I think that's just how he mixes records, at least that's how he DJed when I saw him, although I wasn't so hot on it then either.

EDB, Friday, 20 April 2012 08:57 (fourteen years ago)

When I've seen him DJ in clubs I haven't got into him, but I've been liking this mix a lot. As someone who almost always goes for a long blend by default when mixing myself - and sometimes wishes I had the guts to just slam them next tune in, I always like to hear people mixing the other way and going for those 80s style quick transitions, they're what I found most interesting in people like Mala or Michael Mayer.

two unknown beauties at 36:00 and 43:00. This is why I'm afraid of listening to mixes with no tracklisting.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 20 April 2012 09:50 (fourteen years ago)

Really want Levon Vincent's Rainstorm II to get a release, what a track.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 20 April 2012 11:04 (fourteen years ago)

God, I've listened to that xxxy track like 30 times now. It's like eating pure sugar, and I can't stop.

EDB, Friday, 20 April 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

cassy's sets produce some serious grooves but damn if she isn't static. it's like watching a robot or statue.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Saturday, 21 April 2012 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

Not sure that she's always static. She climbed up on the outer ledge of the DJ booth in the terrace in DC10 and started dancing twice last year! Not a distance you'd want to fall from.

mmmm, Saturday, 21 April 2012 09:17 (fourteen years ago)

Here is probably not the right place to put reissues but Rush Hour are on form with Dream 2 Science... Heard this 20 years ago and didn't find out what it was till recently.... stunning..

mmmm, Saturday, 21 April 2012 13:09 (fourteen years ago)

there's a thread called "house and techno bobbins of the past"

the late great, Saturday, 21 April 2012 15:51 (fourteen years ago)

I know, I had considered it, I'll put reissue stuff in that thread then. Mentally I think of that thread as crate digging or youtube discoveries rather than records that have repackaged and back on the shelves.

mmmm, Saturday, 21 April 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

well whatever thread its on that is an incredible track.

dsb, Saturday, 21 April 2012 18:33 (fourteen years ago)

petar dundov's album is really good despite "distant shores" being a MASSIVE ANTHEM for the likes of sven vath and digweed

hot slag (lukas), Monday, 23 April 2012 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

so do you guys hate this kind of thing? i posted it on the prog house thread but nobody goes there. i like it. is this kid's music? i have no idea. do you roll your eyes and kiss your teeth when you hear stuff like this? just curious. i've never heard of sander van doorn.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8iacryQGt4&ob=av2e

scott seward, Monday, 23 April 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

hi scott, I don't think it's "kids music" per se. It's nice sounding, kind of a prog house version of the some of gui borrato's stuff? But also kinda generic sounding imo, in the same way, say, coldplay is generic sounding

Dominique, Monday, 23 April 2012 15:45 (fourteen years ago)

I love a big slice of OTT trance. I'd rather die than go to a club playing it but go for a run with some on your iPod, reach the top of a big hill and you feel like you own the world.

mmmm, Monday, 23 April 2012 16:27 (fourteen years ago)

even the contrarian in me can't get it up for anything but maybe commander tom's "are am eye"

the late great, Monday, 23 April 2012 16:33 (fourteen years ago)

finally got around to abdulla rashim's asayita ep. shit done my head in.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 24 April 2012 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

Scott, to me it sounds like something I'd imagine Katy Perry singing over as an album filler.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 24 April 2012 16:43 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i wonder why i like it so much. i think its really just that opening. and honestly its probably just cuz it reminds me a little of the alan parsons project at the beginning. and i kinda gravitate toward progressive house (or trance) that reminds me of prog rock. i can see that guy providing good backing tracks for a pop singer. and making that work.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:24 (fourteen years ago)

its definitely something i would never listen to on my own. i just happened to be obsessed with pop trance tracks the other night and this song was on a prog house mix on youtube. there are some really cheesy prog house mixes on youtube. in case you didn't know.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 01:26 (fourteen years ago)

unknown artist - rave [Shed/EQD, surely]

Spotted this on hardwax a few weeks ago. No sign of it since, other than this youtube file with both (awesome) tracks and a discogs page.
