or if you go out in nyc at night

you hear Peso and Purple Swag every night for a couple months now

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 17:04 (fourteen years ago)

so glad i dont live in ny sometimes

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

jk lazy zing i like peso

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

"big spender" is shit. i like "goldie" a lot but i think theophilius london is so fucking boring. at least rocky has some presence and memorable delivery.

even the freeway song was bad and that was on a great album imo

between theophilus and all the ASAP ppl, they will be present at nearly every "important" night life moment and/or pre-show dj set this spring and summer, so you can assure that that song will get play.

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

if you're looking for some ny-centric media conspiracy to make a rapper popular, the proof is theophilus.he has like 3 sponsorships, with brands like vitaminwater and bing, and those brands have partnerships with every media source in this space. they're basically obligated to post his corporate-subisidized tracks and videos and flyers and shit

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

i dont really care abt asap's media-propelled buzz any more, once he broke through to national recognition it kind of leveled off, and I'm not sure I see him being able to deliver on the buzz so I'm sort of rooting for dude in a bizarre way

that said i think 'goldie' is pretty average, even the beat.

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i agree -- for a HIT BOY COLLABO it's just all around underwhelming

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

i think the collaboration worked for the same reason "n-s in paris" did - asap is way better at carrying a track by himself because he loads them with all the mini-hooks that make a song hit with audiences now. his good songs are very smart bc they hit with crowds at exactly the right moments, with the sort of topography that ni99as in paris had. little bite-sized hooks that come in at reliable intervals

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

thats why when someone like schoolboy q or theophilus london come in - it breaks his momentum. those songs will never be big like his others

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)

"take 1" w/ main attraktionz is one of his best songs though

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 17 April 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)

yeah "goldie" is definitely not as good as "peso" or "purple swag"

hologram ned raggett (The Reverend), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

or like half the songs on live love asap

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 April 2012 22:16 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i don't see the big deal about "goldie"? i mean it's aight...

heiswagger (rennavate), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

purple swag wasnt really good either tbr

man down (D-40), Tuesday, 17 April 2012 22:43 (fourteen years ago)

It had a cool beat

curious what ppl think of this. i kind of love the contrast b/w fatz's total dead-eyed flow & the lushness of the production, its a good contradiction

2nd verse is not my thing tho

man down (D-40), Wednesday, 18 April 2012 09:19 (fourteen years ago)

really like a lot of the songs on this new Kevin Gates CD

bass, Thursday, 19 April 2012 09:16 (fourteen years ago)

xpost

it's alright, just crammed with really average sex raps. it's weirdly nothing like its artwork.

boy, was that Dan Fielding hungry for some cake! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 19 April 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

Mississippi Butt Hurt (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 19 April 2012 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

the dwight spitz album is great, art 4 sale is all time for me.
he's got a LOT of albums on spotify including a full length from last year; probably time for me to reembrace.

pandemic, Friday, 20 April 2012 10:13 (fourteen years ago)

obsessed with pluto but that kels joint sticks out like a sore thumb. it's good tho. album reminds me a bit of 'the state vs radric davis'. not musically really, just a rapper managing to pull off a major label debut properly. spot on guest apperances. track with trae is so great.

gucci gyoza (tpp), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i weirdly found myself impressed that future did a pimp c song that sounded more or less like all his other songs -- figured it would be some hokey twanged out texas shit

yologram (J0rdan S.), Friday, 20 April 2012 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

that's pretty spot on. lol yea r kelly kinda nearly that song, the 'apple phone' line is just horrendous.
