Does anyone else really, REALLY hate the tone of those "what did you expect?" comments and "did you think this thread was going to end any other way?" comments. You silly woman. My beef isn't with people fancying who they fancy - my beef is with the way our culture works, in terms of 1) the way female artists vs male artists are packaged and marketed, 2) how male sexual desire is made primary, and female sexual desire is demonised and 3) how unattainable those standards of beauty are, and how these unrealistic standards are used to punish women who cannot conform to them.

The only mild controversy was "Moka, you can not be serious!" to which she replied "actually, you're right, those were silly" and we rolled on happy as ever coz I <3 Moka.

well tbf, "incredibly insulting" is sort of what she does

comparing somebody saying "this thread was always going to end this way", ie in an argument of some kind, to condoning or claiming someone deserves to get raped, is truly one of the worst things i've ever seen on ilx.

Well this is how it often feels, on ILX, when I do things like, starting a perve thread, or using a vagina related screen name, or all of these things that dudes do, without a comment, and then I do it, and I'm told "what did you expect?" I expected to be allowed to have the same freedoms to be cranky, to be lusty, to be all of these things that human beings are.

To me, it FEELS the same kind of mentality as when I was told "what did you expect, getting blind drunk in Hoxton, and you got sexually assaulted?" When my male housemate used to stagger around in the same condition and for whatever reason he never felt like he had to be sexually assaulted for this.

I'm not drawing a direct metaphor, I'm saying "this is a feeling I'm familiar with in an uncomfortable way" when it's people saying that I deserve assholes coming on my thread and being a dick, or I deserve clusterfucks. This is how it feels.

And I'm sorry, but yes, I DO get to say "experience A feels like experience B" when I have had both those experiences.

I think it is actually good to talk through things like that Nina Kravitz video, and get to the heart of one's discomfort with that stuff - if one does or doesn't feel discomfort - and why. I agree with Masonic Boom. There's been some great insights in this thread, there's no need to get all agressive about it. Talking about these things has actually make me think a lot about the point where one has to draw the line and what is it precisely that makes people attracted/repulsed to a certain way of presenting yourself. There's been some interesting perspectives that I hadn't considered seriously before.
