in case you wanted to, you know, wear me

I think the guys Axl didn't want to see inducted are more likely to be Adler and Sorum than Slash. But this is all about Axl not wanting to deal with the pressure of the situation, not whom they are or aren't inducting.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 12 April 2012 06:57 (twelve years ago) link

Basically Slash, yes. Although I'm pretty sure Axl doesn't want Buckethead there either.

Nah, he loves Buckethead and begged him to come back to the band over and over. He did screw him out of writing credit for a song on Chinese Democracy though.

Matt Armstrong, Thursday, 12 April 2012 06:58 (twelve years ago) link

I guess it just stuck out to me that Axl seemed to not want to name Slash in that letter like he's Voldemort or something...seemed like a lot of fancy footwork to not say his name, yknow?

yeah, that was my read.

all we are asking is for our rightfully earned place in the rock and roll hall of fame

and maybe for somebody to launder tommy's ensemble

BEMORE SUPER FABBY (contenderizer), Thursday, 12 April 2012 07:37 (twelve years ago) link

I'm imagining Alanis Morissette fronting GNR and singing "Live and Let Die" at the RnR HOF ...

NoTimeBeforeTime, Thursday, 12 April 2012 08:14 (twelve years ago) link

nuGNR look eager to talk about fluttershy and rainbow dash.

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 08:26 (twelve years ago) link

which one of those clowns is Tommy Stinson?

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 12:39 (twelve years ago) link

RRHOF can do without Guns'n'Roses. Overrated band.

Tommy is far left.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 April 2012 13:55 (twelve years ago) link

That DJ Ashba guitarist, third from left, basically looks like Buckethead naturally.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 12 April 2012 13:56 (twelve years ago) link

He looks like both Mick Mars and Mystery.

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:00 (twelve years ago) link

I mean what the fuck is wrong with people.

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:04 (twelve years ago) link

From Rocket Queen to hot pocket queens.

When did Tommy Stinson get cast as Wolverine?

what's wrong with Tommy Stinson. Jesus.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:52 (twelve years ago) link

does this band really require 8 people?

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:53 (twelve years ago) link

The Polyphonic Roses

an independent online phenomenon (DJP), Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:54 (twelve years ago) link

what does the jacket worn by the poor man's Izzy Stradlin say?

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:55 (twelve years ago) link

8 seems pretty small for post-Illusion GNR, tbh. no backup singers or horn section!

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

yeah but backup singers and orchestra were never part of the core band despite the jokes about bloat

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 14:58 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, but i'm just saying people are acting like 8 people onstage for a GNR show is a lot. even on the UYI tour the core band was 6 people w/ Dizzy.

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:00 (twelve years ago) link

I think we all agree that Gilby Clarke should be in the Hall of Fame.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:02 (twelve years ago) link

Fuck, I mean, the real crime is that Tracii Guns appears to be getting shafted here.

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:04 (twelve years ago) link

I'm totally fine with anyone telling the rock'n'roll hall of fame to go fuck themselves, even Axl Rose.

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:07 (twelve years ago) link

he totally didn't, though! he respectfully declined!

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:09 (twelve years ago) link

Will there be a moment of silence for Ole Beich and any other human wreckage they have left in their wake?

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

what does the jacket worn by the poor man's Izzy Stradlin say?

It looks like it says GENERAL AMISH but that can't be right.

i love the large auns pictures! (Phil D.), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:10 (twelve years ago) link

He politely told them to go fuck themselves, sd. Strongly demanding his name not come up is totally a fuck you whether it's written diplomatically.

They should ignore the late '80s/early '90s for a while, and focus on adored unheralded '70s acts for a bit (cheap trick, chicago, styx, blah fucking blah) until Green Day is eligible. Once Green Day is in, every conflicted "keepin it real" band of my childhood will feel their nod is overdue.

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:11 (twelve years ago) link

oh my god I just realized

one day, Limp Bizkit is going to be in the HOF, aren't they

an independent online phenomenon (DJP), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:13 (twelve years ago) link

I realize Axl would happily be there singing about Patience if they'd let his merry band of hacks play instead of the old squad, though.

xpost i dunno hard rock has to wait a while. Kiss wasn't an immediate induction and they've actually maintained a high profile since their glory days.

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:14 (twelve years ago) link

looks like "General Altruism" to me.

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:15 (twelve years ago) link

This is from lol CRACKED.com, but the dude makes a good case for The Cars, Jethro Tull, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel and Jeff Lynne/ELO. I think The Cars and ELO certainly should be in there.

oh c'mon, definitely not. i mean Rush isn't in there, sales are not the only barometer, bands w/ a fraction of their sales like the White Stripes will get in first.

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:16 (twelve years ago) link

Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, Yes, Deep Purple, Kiss

there are some weird omissions. those bands were massive. And except for Kiss, they were awesome.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

Alice Cooper only got in last year, as far as hard rock clowns go. Also by the time Limp Bizkit could be in no one will give a fuck about this thing.

lol wait Kiss aren't even yet? For some reason I thought they'd slipped in.

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:19 (twelve years ago) link

I just can't imagine nu-metal shit getting in there.

Poliopolice, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

Is there a Stairway to Heaven of nu-metal?

beachville, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:25 (twelve years ago) link

HOF wiki has some stuff about Bob Welch not being included in Fleetwood Mac's induction along w/ founding members and Rumors era members that does make me wonder exactly how the HOF decides how to handle bands w/ lots of lineup changes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_n_Roll_hall_of_Fame#Fleetwood_Mac_.26_Bob_Welch

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:26 (twelve years ago) link

i mean Rush isn't in there, sales are not the only barometer, bands w/ a fraction of their sales like the White Stripes will get in first.

I would argue that Rush deserves to be there more than RHCP. And I don't even like Rush! My feeling is if the Chili Peppers can get in, anyone can.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:28 (twelve years ago) link

xpost they figure out who matters and then figure who the people who matter are comfortable spending time on stage with.

re: bizkit, Alice Cooper has been eligible since '94 and got in in 2011 - the guy behind "I'm Eighteen" & "School's Out" who's last gold album was twenty years after his first. Limp has "Nookie" & "Break Stuff" and their last gold record came six years after their first. They won't be eligible until 2022, and unless Cash Money gives them a bonafide comeback, Rock'n'Roll probably has to matter past 2050 for Fred to go "hell yeah" at the event. Plus they'll probably have handed the ceremony to Ryan Schrieber by then and I can't see him letting that happen.

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

Chili Peppers are huge, though, easily one of the top 5 most inevitable inductions of the 90s/00s alt rock era

deejeridoo (some dude), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

pointing out that bands who deserve to be in the HOF aren't actually in it isn't a strong argument against a band that shouldn't be in the HOF making it in

I mean, I do take the point and you're all probably right, and yet I can totally see voters going "you know what, in retrospect Limp Bizkit were IMPORTANT, in they go; fuck you, Rush"

an independent online phenomenon (DJP), Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:31 (twelve years ago) link

"you know what, in retrospect Limp Bizkit were IMPORTANT, in they go; fuck you, Rush"

this would make sense if the stones were inducted for altamont

da croupier, Thursday, 12 April 2012 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

GNR is the only hair metal band in the HOF. if Crue were in there, i'd see Bizkit having a shot.
