every morning, easy. the last two are pretty generic and fly somehow annoyed me more than every morning.
― will, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 12:24 (seventeen years ago)
well, someday is ok
This is going to be one of those days where "ALLL AROUND TEH WORRRRRLD" is stuck in my head all day, I just know it.
― Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 13:47 (seventeen years ago)
Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.
― ILX System, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)
I have a many of those days.
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

the dj scratches are tite
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:22 (seventeen years ago)
all of these are 10/10 classics though
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:23 (seventeen years ago)
everything made before u were born is not a 10/10 classic :D
― deej, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)
Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
― ILX System, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)
lol deej
every morning has the best verses out of these i think
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:11 (seventeen years ago)
these songs are 4 in the group of shit that makes me think "they just don't make songs like this anymore", musicianship and production are impeccable
i really hope that all the dudes in this band have cake for like off these songs
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:13 (seventeen years ago)
are any of their albums classic?
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)
I hate to be that guy, but every one of these songs makes me want to jam an icepick into my ear. Complete, total, utterly irrational hatred for everything associated with Sugar Ray and Smashmouth.

my understanding is that they were some cheesy-ass hardcore band or something that had one hit w/ breezy summer jam 'fly' and decided to reproduce that sound until they vanished
― deej, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 23:36 (seventeen years ago)
haha well now that the poll's over let's just talk about their goofy hard rock singles. MEAN MACHINE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjb7UD7jPqM
― some dude, Thursday, 7 August 2008 00:09 (seventeen years ago)
i'm pretty sure that video would still be pretty wtf if they'd never made "Fly" or anything else ever after that.
― some dude, Thursday, 7 August 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)
I'M LOOKIN' FOR LOVE LIKE REVENGE OF THE NERDS BUTT MY ASS NOW YA PLAY ON WORDS

even worse, they'll be playing live from the back of a tricked-out custom Sugar Ray model Scion buggy, roving around the Anaheim Convention Center interior
― rentboy, Friday, 12 September 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)
...why do I worry you are not joking.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 September 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)
"Fly" has so much more going on than these other songs
also, the power-pop single they released after "When It's Over" was p. good iirc
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 May 2010 01:49 (sixteen years ago)
"someday" was easily the best of the lot for me. the tinge of sadness does it.
― teledyldonix, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:22 (sixteen years ago)
'fly' really annoys me - totally dig the other 3 + 'falls apart'
― iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:25 (sixteen years ago)
d-_-b
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 05:26 (sixteen years ago)
if I were voting today, 'when it's over'
― iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:27 (sixteen years ago)
great videos too
me 2 -- yeah classic wkiw party vids
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 05:32 (sixteen years ago)
if i had to rank them now id go
1 when it's over2 every morning3 fly4 someday
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 05:33 (sixteen years ago)

― iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:35 (sixteen years ago)
thought about doing a sugar ray v. 3eb poll today actually
― iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:36 (sixteen years ago)
there's an 8 year old vs. thread where people said some stuff that they probably wouldn't say today
it's possible that "jumper" & "semi-charmed life" are better than the 4 sugar ray singles, but i'd have to sleep on it
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 05:38 (sixteen years ago)
i guess it kind of depends on what mood you're in too
wish u would step back from that poll my friend
― ksh, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:39 (sixteen years ago)
I was thinking about it tho - we've surely reached the point that a decent % of jr. high school kids have no idea who these bands are
― iatee, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:40 (sixteen years ago)
that's totally possible
― ksh, Monday, 17 May 2010 05:40 (sixteen years ago)
i would say it's probable? junior high kids would've just been born when sugary ray/3eb were big
― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 May 2010 05:41 (sixteen years ago)
lol sugary
"Answer the Phone"! It is pretty good, but definitely not the exact same song as "Fly"/"Every Morning"/"Someday"/"When it's Over."
― Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Monday, 17 May 2010 06:19 (sixteen years ago)
By which I mean is it inherently lesser.
― Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Monday, 17 May 2010 06:20 (sixteen years ago)
The "it" and "is" in that previous statement should be reversed, and I should not rely on coffee and smoke to keep me coherent this late.
― Brad Nelson (BradNelson), Monday, 17 May 2010 06:21 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, it is lesser, but still pretty good
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 May 2010 06:25 (sixteen years ago)
1 when it's over2 someday3 fly4 every morning

God, I had compleeeeeetely forgotten "When It's Over." I remember being on a road trip with a friend and it was like every fifth song that got played on the radio, and us riffing on the hook with stuff like "If they! play this song a-gain / we'll drive off a bri-idge." It's aged nicely though. Love the harmonies.
― Doctor Casino, Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:35 (fifteen years ago)
oh god though, the video is one of those "hey, let's think up some kooky ideas for a video!" things, except the ideas aren't very kooky

― Doctor Casino, Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:37 (fifteen years ago)
someone do a poll on which 'billy don't lose that number' sugar ray scenario they prefer. i do like that at the end they settle on 'let's make a cliched sugar ray late 90s mcg style video'. also definitely would've voted either that or 'fly'.
― balls, Saturday, 25 September 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, honestly when I first watched that last night I couldn't tell if the last video was supposed to be a straight "normal" video or if it too is a parody nestled somewhere between "Semi-Charmed Life" and, I dunno, "Miami" by Will Smith.
― Doctor Casino, Saturday, 25 September 2010 15:52 (fifteen years ago)
that's their last hit too so i like to imagine them literally trapped in their cliche moment, like agent cooper in the black lodge

really feeling "When It's Over" much moreso than when I posted above, although the "favorite TV shows" line is kinda a clunker. Love, love love the harmonies on the last choruses.
― Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 17:10 (fifteen years ago)
I mean, it's still no "Fly," but...
haha i was just looking at this thread yesterday, seeing it on new answers i was like "i didn't revive it did i?"
― some dude, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 17:14 (fifteen years ago)
I always thought it was Shaggy who guested on "Fly"!
Now I realize it sounds nothing like him!
― frogbs, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:10 (fifteen years ago)
although the "favorite TV shows" line is kinda a clunker.
I love the honest banality of it. Another song on the album opens with "I'll always remember Run-DMC/and all of the good times we had on the beach."
― da croupier, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)
"I remember the culture club, the clash and men without hats"
