31 years old, SF California, hmmm....

.adam (nordicskilla), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Is he secretly Spencer Chow?

.adam (nordicskilla), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I have this suspicion that the Uno Records mix is this once-in-a-lifetime great mix from Lwun destined never to be repeated. But I may just be basing that on his sweaty David Morales + mullet look.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, I was just waiting until the indie backlash!!!

"Yeah, I liked this a lot but now I don't find it interesting."

gygax! (gygax!), Sunday, 9 January 2005 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

He could look like a crumpled paper bag and I don't think I'd care.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 9 January 2005 22:11 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't change this being my favourite cd of 2004.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 9 January 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a big Modest Mouse fan!

One of my favorite things about the CD is that it got me going back to the early Murk singles. "If You Really Love Somebody" is straight up Soulful Electro-House!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 9 January 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I still haven't ever seen this CD for sale.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Me either, I tried to get some to sell in our shop.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

damn i really want to hear this mix. can anybody in the know compare this mei lwun mix to dj garth's revolutions in sound?

"revolutions in sound" is a san francisco trippy psychedelic deep mix but with a heavy underground disco vibe. instead of prog-house reese octave bass you get sampled basslines from groups like ESG, liquid liquid, cymande, etc so there's that chicken lips thing happening. there's not really any overt electrohouse moves but, being as it's a west coast house album, it's got enough micro-production to keep me happy.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I haven't listed to Garth and Jeno in so long...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i know, me neither until i got hit with the 1-2 punch of doc martin's "sounds you can feel" and "fabric 10". also in the context of things like digweed's fabric mix and the ultra-dubby first 20 minutes of blackstrobe's essential mix west coast house makes perfect sense again!!

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I was Doc Martin's de facto roadie (i.e. I carried crates) a couple times when he was in SF in like 1992.

Wicked had some great tracks they would drop, but sometimes it got a bit too gaia or a bit too "funky" (if you know what I mean).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

But when Jeno dropped Bad Boy Orchestra, I thought my head was going to explode. I bought 3 expensive copies on vinyl!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

how many freshjive t-shirts do you own spencer???

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Spencer do you like ETI and the Waller Street Boys?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard of them.

xpost:
I had shorts, 2 t-shirts, pants etc etc from 1991!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Vahid I really want you to hear this mix.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 12 January 2005 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Vahid, you're on slsk, right? I'll fire it up tonight.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Garth used to record with ETI... I'd highly recommend it to you.

That mix Vahid posted is like my roommate from 6 years ago all over again.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Any specific track?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll go home and look. soon. i promise.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

20 minutes of disco glory (acid rock mix)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I have heard that but can't remember.

Can we talk about other California stuff?

Exist Dance: Classicer or Classicest!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

High Lonesome Soundsystem - "Champion Sound"
Tranquility Bass - "Cantamilla"

etc etc

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

we sort of already did on the "fake jungle" thread, where ned comes out as an early-90s OC raver.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 January 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you think Lwun is pronounced???

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 January 2005 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim are you on slsk? Or anyone else who has this.

blubeard, Tuesday, 18 January 2005 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

first off let me say im all together floored and flattered at the responce here to "mei-lwun presents UNO". thanks so much. i had a blast mixing that cd and it came out as true to form as any licenced mix cd can. now for some clairification:

mei-lwun is pronouced (May) - (LUN) like the month and the first part of london.

second that track with the 'MURK' sounding voc is actually "the fog" been a long time with chicken lips 'he not in' under it. came out as a white lable and i still know not who did that jem.. (please email or post if anyone knows that answer)

181... yeah thats another story entirely.. yes it is B&T, spring break-ish if you will but i also play @ frisson saturdays and me and andy are atarting up an UNO monthly first thursdays @ the endup in SF..

i'll check back later n see if i forgot anything but have to keep it short as im currently in Jakarta for a show and have limited net acess.

Much Respect to Music Lovas,

Mei-lwun

Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Monday, 26 April 2010 02:07 (sixteen years ago)

My copy is scratched to fuck somehow :-(

I will see if I can rip it.

Tim F, Monday, 26 April 2010 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

In some ways me loving the first half of this was a precursor to me loving UK Funky. I sort of feel like it's this side of "funky house" (as well as the obvious - dennis ferrer etc.) that really inspired uk funky producers.

Tim F, Monday, 26 April 2010 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 00:16 (sixteen years ago)

The breakdown of "The Feeling (Post Rave Dub)" is still the finest moment in recorded music.

Tim F, Wednesday, 28 April 2010 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

dropped the electro retro mix of 'don't you love me' while djing last night. so fun

lebroner (D-40), Monday, 30 May 2011 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

that bass part is nutso. people dancing start acting like they're on a roller coaster

lebroner (D-40), Monday, 30 May 2011 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

YES. What Lwun and Caldwell do with bass on tracks like this and "Too Late" is pretty phenom.

Tim F, Monday, 30 May 2011 23:00 (fifteen years ago)

eight years pass...

How did I ever forget for even a moment how life changing this dj mix is?

Tim F, Sunday, 6 October 2019 01:14 (six years ago)
