the gun sounds on 'Truth' are so, so dud.

jergins (jergins), Friday, 9 June 2006 06:30 (twenty years ago)

That sleeve is rather hideous... still not as bad as the last Red Hot Chili Peppers one, which was possibly the worst cover for ten years or so...

gekoppel (Gekoppel), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:55 (twenty years ago)

I see the album version of "Knock 'Em Out" (wisely) drops the AIDS joke at the end.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 9 June 2006 19:06 (twenty years ago)

singin quite well live on TOTP right now. 'Smile' is OK. there's this sense that this is what Corrine Bailey-Rae should sound like even tho technically she's probably the better vocalist overall. i was going to say edge but obv. CBR has none and Allen's is barely tangible itself. sweet enough to not render a song like this a bland waste of time tho.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Sunday, 11 June 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

She's either refusing to look at the audience, or she's going for the wrong camera angles. 'She's better than Sandi Thom' opines my sofa-companion.

alext (alext), Sunday, 11 June 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

dude, being whacked in the bollocks with an electrified hobnail boot would be better than sandi thom.

dermot o'leary obviously has a thing for her, judging by a throwaway comment on his R2 show yesterday afternoon ("keith allen, my future father-in-law").

Shooting Dullards down: Lily Allen

Pop newcomer Lily Allen, has spectacularly dissed former Libertines star Carl Barat and indie darlings The Kooks.

Writing on her blog, the singer declared : "Boys, your regurgitated indie rock days are numbered so get over yourselves."

,,,,,,,,,,

spectacularly sez the NME, more like common sense !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:44 (twenty years ago)

Yep boyz, Kaiser Chiefs covers are the FUTURE! Get used to it.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:49 (twenty years ago)

"Boys, your regurgitated indie rock days are numbered so get over yourselves."

Lily sees no end in site for her 15 minutes.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:52 (twenty years ago)

'site'?

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:53 (twenty years ago)

tonite tonite

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Bag of site.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 13:54 (twenty years ago)

chantelle fiddy v lily allen BEEF!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Lex, i'm sort of blown away by how hilariously trite that story was.

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:10 (twenty years ago)

i agree, and it's the most interesting l allen-related thing yet

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:13 (twenty years ago)

someone (nb not lily) needs to do an r&b song about it

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Maybe it could be Frankee's comeback single?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:20 (twenty years ago)

omg that Fiddy anecdote is PHUNNNYE!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:33 (twenty years ago)

At 1:43 PM, lilyallen said...

do you make this shit up for fun ? if youre gonna hate on me , at least speak the truth .Even if your garms were late , I would never say anything like that to anyone . Grow up , wastewoman .

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:36 (twenty years ago)

I really love the assumption of consensus in Fiddy's post that a piece of clothing bought three years ago is automatically out of date, but a piece of clothing bought seven years ago is "vintage" and therefore stylish!

Maybe Miquita wore the seven-year-old jacket three years ago as a hand-me-down from her mate's older sister?

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Chantelle: i have to pee
lily allen: your jacket is out of style
the internet: omg

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

what the hell, this thread. you crazy. you crazy, go BAM!

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:46 (twenty years ago)

The words "children" and "please" spring to immediate mind.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 06:59 (twenty years ago)

What, do you want her to have your children?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:12 (twenty years ago)

(er... yes, that's the bigger version of the cover art, by the way)

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:13 (twenty years ago)

something wrong with the chin

jergins (jergins), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:16 (twenty years ago)

What I want is for record companies to use what little sense there is left in their heads and spend their resources on musicians, not jumped-up floozies with influential mates.

If you want to be arrogant, it helps to have something to be arrogant about.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:20 (twenty years ago)

i finally heard 'ldn'.

sounds like third single off jem album.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:55 (twenty years ago)

Ah yes, Jem, whatever became of that particular middle-aged record executive fading-libido fantasy?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:56 (twenty years ago)

she was actually quite fit.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 07:58 (twenty years ago)

Note the past tense, so soon.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:01 (twenty years ago)

i doubt she was dropped but people seem to take so long to make albums that she may as well have been.

Seriously, Try Punching This Guy in the Face and See What Happens (Enrique), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:25 (twenty years ago)

She's on exchange with Beth Orton. Beth is swapped in, Jem is swapped out.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:36 (twenty years ago)

i still like 'They'

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:44 (twenty years ago)

Beth's recent stuff hasn't exactly been my cup of Cresta, but she's in a completely different league, even if only because I fancy her like mad... ;-)

(sigh MC you're just as bad as the rest, face up to it)

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:44 (twenty years ago)

i like the opening two bars of 'they' before jem starts singing.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:49 (twenty years ago)

I quite like "It's just a ride" in the irish sense.

The video for "Wish I" was bizarre: basically, couple on a tropical beach getting married and it's all nice and flowers and beds at sunset on the beach and all that. Which is fine, but the song is about someone departing for a long time and the girl wishes she was going to. i.e. nothing to do at all with the video.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:52 (twenty years ago)

when is Chantelle Fiddy releasing a single anyway?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:53 (twenty years ago)

Alright, Still is fucking excellent. It took this long into the year to get a single great album?

David Orton (scarlet), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 08:58 (twenty years ago)

No, the Broken Social Scene album came out here right at the beginning of January.

No relation, I take it?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Alright, I just got my hands on the LP and I gotta ask, what's with the shitty re-recorded version of "Knock 'Em Out" on the LP?

And what the FUCK happened to, "AIDS! AIDS! I've got AIDS!"?!?!?! It's... GONE!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 18 June 2006 01:50 (twenty years ago)

I love Knock 'Em Out! I have a copy of the LP with the re-recorded version on it, I suppose. Is the original version that much more different?

musically (musically), Sunday, 18 June 2006 03:03 (twenty years ago)

I saw the 'Orange phones present the download and ringtones sponsor.." programme. It has some music on it. Anyway, this prog the one she 'complains' about on her blog.

Interviewer in 'slides reference to her dad in an interesting and novel way' shokkah. Lily says 'cunt' as part of her answer.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 19 June 2006 07:37 (twenty years ago)

Ehhh, apart from the fact that she pushes my "you annoy me" buttons almost as much as BB Sezer (i.e. all attitude and no charisma), she's okay I guess. I still don't think the songs have much to hang on to -- they sort of exhaust their interest after two or three listens. The beats are slack. The samples are a bit Elvis Costllo Does Young People's Music. The lyrics are 14-year-old-boy-puerile, and not in a good way.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 19 June 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Am I the only person who thinks that Lily Allen (on first listen, albeit) sounds like a multi-cult-schooled Fiona Apple? (Granted, I haven't really registered any of the lyrics so that probably kills my argument stone-cold dead. But sonically, though...)

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Saturday, 24 June 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

They are both white girl singers, phil, and that's about it.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Saturday, 24 June 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

don't know what school either of them went to.

Roughage Crew (Enrique), Saturday, 24 June 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Fiona Apple is GREAT! (one key difference between her and allen)

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 25 June 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Went out to fill up the car w/petrol last night, Radio 1 was playing "Smile" which faded into "LDN". I went to pay for petrol, and when I got back in, "Alfie" was just finishing.

Overkill?

I assume this single will be number one immediately it's out.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 26 June 2006 07:34 (nineteen years ago)

Added to my folder: evidence supporting immediate abolition of the BBC no. 395821.
