"some are cool, some are corrupt, some are polite some don't give a fuck"

moullet, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

four weeks pass...

Available for download, Funkystepz's trap remix of D'Banj's Oliver Twist:
http://soundcloud.com/funkystepzuk/dbanj-oliver-twist-funkystepz
Funkystepz have mentioned in interviews that they want to expand beyond UK Funky in 2012 and do Miami Bass, R&B, hip-hop, etc.
Found this also, coming out at the end of the month, Funkystepz remix of Rebecca Ferguson, straight R&B:
http://www.djcity.co.uk/digital/rebecca-ferguson-glitter-gold-funkystepz-remix---23794.htm
Anybody by chance record this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01g9g9v? I really want to hear 'Preeya Kalidas — Love Between Us (Funkystepz Miami Bass Mix). I like the original and FS's Miami Bass remixes have been great, hope this is no exception.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 19:34 (fourteen years ago)

unless it gets wild further down the line somewhere, it's no big deal alas.

i.e. click my name, do the "send email" thingie and include your email address

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

got some promos trace?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

No I've got that show tho

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 2 May 2012 20:05 (fourteen years ago)

interesting. you work for auntie i presume?

r|t|c, Wednesday, 2 May 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks, trace and rtc! I do hope as FS evolve and expand into other areas that they don't completely abandon their signature bubbly, hyper-colorful, intricately convoluted Funky/Garage sound, because there's no one I'm aware of to fill that void.

The Reverend, Sunday, 20 May 2012 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

incredible!

boxedjoy, Monday, 21 May 2012 10:11 (fourteen years ago)

I wish they'd done a little more with "Oliver Twist" but I feel ridiculous even saying anything negative about such a horn o' plenty

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 21 May 2012 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

agree but then it's probably about a year before everyone's up to the time with afro

r|t|c, Monday, 21 May 2012 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

three weeknd remixes? :/

The Reverend, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:25 (fourteen years ago)

three weeknd remixes? :)

I'm on my fourth download attempt, fingers crossed.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

OK, Vybz Kartel remix much better than any of the Weeknd remixes. The pitched up Buju, ehh.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 13:39 (fourteen years ago)

Now I'm trying to figure out which one of their Rihanna remixes are superior.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

cake

The Reverend, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, that Cake remix. This whole collection is super generous and awesome!

Does anyone know the significance of the titles (Miami Bass vs. Loveshy) btw?

MikoMcha, Monday, 21 May 2012 14:40 (fourteen years ago)

Yes! Love that Buju Banton remix, brilliant that one, as are they all, including the Rudekid remix they just put out. I wouldn't think the Weeknd (or Bruno Mars for that matter) would be the best material for them to remix, but I think they all work, love the dark garage vibe of those. Ridiculous how many good tunes Funkystepz have amassed.

Astrochimp32, Monday, 21 May 2012 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

"the motto" sounds amazing

moullet, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 02:39 (fourteen years ago)

ESTHERO OG BITCH ->> STILL THE PRETTIEST

moullet, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 02:40 (fourteen years ago)

No I don't, and I haven't listened to it yet (dl it at work). But a huge part of me wishes that Loveshy takes its inspiration from Kristine Blond's "Love Shy", the Club Asylum remix of which is one of my all time favourite pieces of music ever.

Also,

CAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKE

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

so much better than the original version and esp the fucking chris brown remix

The Reverend, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 07:47 (fourteen years ago)

I actually assumed this and feel likewise.

Tim F, Tuesday, 22 May 2012 08:16 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i assume that too

massive lol @ how they pitch drake's voice to sound like some sort of gremlin on "the motto" remix

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 24 May 2012 06:44 (fourteen years ago)

the "oliver twist" one is a bit pointless though

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 24 May 2012 06:44 (fourteen years ago)

CAKECAKECAKECAKECAKE probably takes the cake

it's funny cuz there's a tennis player whose nickname is CAKE and worlds are colliding here

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Thursday, 24 May 2012 06:45 (fourteen years ago)

It's the Esthero remix that I keep coming back to. I dunno, it just suits me right now

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 24 May 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

Birthday Cake is INCREDIBLE. These guys should be producing Rihanna

Number None, Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:47 (fourteen years ago)

i was thinking Minaj....

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

whatever, get them on the charts

Number None, Thursday, 24 May 2012 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

fuck, both the rihanna & drake songs are dope as hell

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 24 May 2012 22:06 (fourteen years ago)

CAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKECAKE has been in my head for the past three days and it is making my life better. Can these guys not just get Lily Mackenzie or whoever to do a full album of banging vocal tracks of their own so I don't have to feel guilty about not turning off Bruno Mars/Drake?

boxedjoy, Friday, 25 May 2012 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

also one of the simplest pleasures I'm getting from listening to this collection is from shouting FUNKYSTEPZ at moments it could/does fit in, I might have to create a "best funky producer audio tag" poll

boxedjoy, Friday, 25 May 2012 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

I have the "FUN-KY-STEPZ" and "PRE-DI-TAH" tags enter my brain at the randomest moments

The Reverend, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:04 (fourteen years ago)

I also get the Crazy Cousinz "oh", Cooly G's "mmmm-mwah", Ill Blu's "eww", Champion's "champion sound" and "Roska Roska Roska" popping into my head a lot. I'm sure you could argue that it says a lot for the songcraft of these producers when even their sound tags are earworms.

boxedjoy, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:10 (fourteen years ago)

xp hahaha me too reverend, today: bus

moullet, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:16 (fourteen years ago)

terror's danjah "reh reh reh"

moullet, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:26 (fourteen years ago)

funkystepz tag is a classic 4 all time

tpp, Friday, 25 May 2012 23:47 (fourteen years ago)

Some ppl don't like it apparently: https://twitter.com/Funkystepz/status/205038076291059713

Mercer Finn, Saturday, 26 May 2012 02:28 (fourteen years ago)

crazy cousins "OH!" is my fav

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 26 May 2012 02:33 (fourteen years ago)

I hear the Crazy Cousinz one as a "WOO!"

The Reverend, Saturday, 26 May 2012 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, you're right -- it's kind of a hook in itself... they really deploy it so well

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 26 May 2012 02:37 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, such a dope element in and of itself

The Reverend, Saturday, 26 May 2012 07:29 (fourteen years ago)

Lil Silva and Miss Fire are two more Funky producers with sound tags, I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Wonder why so many in Funky? I agree Funkystepz's is the best, it not only lets you know it's them, but how they deploy it right before the drop really pushed the tune even higher.

Astrochimp32, Saturday, 26 May 2012 22:08 (fourteen years ago)

i also like "donaaeeeeooo. donnaaaaeeeeooooo"

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 26 May 2012 22:18 (fourteen years ago)

the bruno mars remix is really good too

fapper don (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 May 2012 02:59 (fourteen years ago)

i always think of the crazy cousinz tag as that sing-song "cray-zee cou-sinz, cray-zee cou-sinz"

kanye kardashian (lex pretend), Sunday, 27 May 2012 11:10 (fourteen years ago)

I always think of the Ill Blu one as the echoey deep computer voice 'ill-ill Blu'. I don't think I spotted the eww until the thread on here. MY faves are at the mo are prob Funkystepz and Champion. Worst was prob when you go see Marcus Nasty and you get a dreary voice slowly saying over every other track 'marcus nasty dubplate special' even if the song had been out for years.
