i always feel like this guy's stuff is a lot more slight than it should be, but the tape sounds pretty good

There's a disconnect between his voice, which is the definition of slight, and his songs, which can be super bold ("The Truth" is really chilling). His rapping is just dreadful, but his storytelling is really vivid.

New Monica album seems like a mixed bag—Rico Love seems off his game on a lot of these ballads. But I'm listening to the album preview stream of the new SWV album and everything sounds absolutely incredible. Can't wait to hear the real thing.

I'm ready to write the Monica album off as a total disappointment.

it's here to stay, at least for the artists who are big enough to shoot for the pop market

ha, never really thought about it, but this is another great example of the marginalization of R&B. Scabs like Skylar Grey and Matthew Santos are stealing all the prime guest spots

Yeah, I've not once heard this on my pop station, though I've never heard it on my hip-hop/R&B station either. I've heard "Without You" and "Scream" on the latter, but it plays so much pop that they don't stand out.

"Climax" is on r&b stations a ton. i will challop and say i prefer "Without You" though (or for that matter, "Papers").

"without you" is one of the biggest shitsacks ever

there are plenty of usher singles that are better than "climax" but none of them have been released post-confessions era
