i've been enjoying woolford for awhile now, feel like the turning point was actually around 2005

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-sh8mi0cio

also really like this recent one, "can't do without"

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:58 (fourteen years ago)

although it definitely doesn't need to be 8:27 long

the late great, Thursday, 29 March 2012 16:59 (fourteen years ago)

and then right after that obv he killed it with "erotic discourse"

not sure how that could every qualify as dad-house

Royal T's refix of I Luv U is inasane.

jimitheexploder, Saturday, 31 March 2012 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

'This is killing me: the song featured in last week's Dusk & Blackdown Rinse mix that samples The Breakfast Club - "Well, if you say you haven't, you're a prude. If you say you have you're a slut. It's a trap. You want to but you can't, and when you do you wish you didn't, right?" Anybody? Thanks.

^ Big fan of that Presk tune.

Mr Andy M, Monday, 9 April 2012 13:40 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah it's now stuck in my head and probably will be all week.

viborg, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:23 (fourteen years ago)

Also, Jimmy Edgar 'For the Children'. Maybe that's more bobbins? I don't fully understand the difference.

viborg, Monday, 9 April 2012 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

40oz of tears (Jordan), Monday, 30 April 2012 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

"kook" is pretty good, what w/ a great sample, epic synth vibe and creepy "presk" vocal clip, but i still prefer "sweat" (presk & cinnaman)

presk IS killing it though, four for four on dope EPs

the late great, Tuesday, 8 May 2012 02:04 (fourteen years ago)

btw is it just me or does croydon house sample "sacred cycles"?

Another Presk track, remixing Tessela and Hackman. The rest of the 12" is wicked too.

the first four tracks of this new slugabed album are great, but then it turned into a blur of hi-fi synth-fusion to me (ie no hooks). maybe i shouldn't have tried to listen to it all at once.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Tuesday, 15 May 2012 18:01 (fourteen years ago)

NEWFLASH - MOSCA BITES HAND THAT FEEDS

going back to '09 listening to Marcus making this weird, weird house music basically that brings in all these elements, I wanna go back to that. If you want a guitar in your track, that's cool, you can do that. Now in UK bass you cannot have guitars—that's one of the rules. You have to have 808s, big Julio Bashmore bass, a US rap sample repeated, cowbell, a little Burial garage sample and a Deadboy synth that goes "eeewwwaaooo," bending all over the place. And those are the rules now. And you do get a lot of, it's just the same old same old that I get sent. There's so many people making music now, that it's flooded.

the late great, Tuesday, 15 May 2012 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

Bashmore has actually been using guitar a lot on his recent stuff

I'm really psyched that DJG seems to be extricating himself from dubstep and slowly evolving into something else.

He was way too cool for the kids he was hanging out with IMO.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:02 (fourteen years ago)

Having been going over old DMZ tracks in the last few days I was wondering if it makes sense to have a Dance Partisans of the Past thread, encompassing everything from early 00's proto dubstep to cotemporary Bass, or whether assorted thread already suffice?

EDB, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:10 (fourteen years ago)

I wouldn't mind having a place to get nostalgic about my record crates.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:12 (fourteen years ago)

Ate a lot of ramen so that I could buy all those DMZ platters.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 21 May 2012 12:12 (fourteen years ago)

Oh god, I don't want to think about my current diet when I look at my records in 10 years.

Is there anything resembling an independent English language dance publication left?

Little White Earbuds?

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 2 June 2012 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

And I by publication I mean something with a separate editorial entity from the marketing department, no offense meant to Sonic Router or any of the other blobs out there.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 2 June 2012 02:44 (fourteen years ago)

Blogs, stupid phone.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 2 June 2012 02:45 (fourteen years ago)

This next banging track is brought to you by Red Bull Music Academy, Scion A/V, Nike, etc.

Josiah Alan, Saturday, 2 June 2012 02:49 (fourteen years ago)

oh how i wish that typo had appeared on the fluxblob thread

the late great, Saturday, 2 June 2012 02:50 (fourteen years ago)

I would never be that mean to poor Matthew, we used to talk about comic books.

I'm torn between my desire to hate on the Red Bull Music Academy and my desire to give them a thumbs up for giving away free FLACs.

If EDM is this decade's alternative rock, does that make Skrillex: Eddie Vedder?

Josiah Alan, Monday, 11 June 2012 08:39 (fourteen years ago)

My mate Sully was good enough to pop down and do a set for us on Saturday. I may be biased, but the guy needs his own Fabric cd - very cool blends of uk bass and us-style house, lots of cut-up mixes etc.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Monday, 11 June 2012 10:23 (fourteen years ago)

I know dungeon dubstep is backward looking and not very exciting to most but I'm determined to plumb the depths.
