he's put out some good stuff before but i thought it would be at least another album cycle before he made his 'justified' move

My thoughts exactly. Otoh I can see that they had to do *something*, "My World"'s production/angle/songwriting was tethered to his pre-pubescent voice. I just wish I could say I liked this more than, uh, anything off "Justified".

Yeah, if we're extending the Justified comparison, I just wish it was closer to "Like I Love You" than to a back-half track like "Right for Me."

Has anyone since Timberlake been in a position to utilize "the Justified move"? As if this is something that's happened more than once?

it kinda depends on whether you think the key context of that album is the move from pop to R&B, from group member to solo star, from teenpop star to universal/'adult' pop icon, or whether it applies equally to female acts etc. lots of artists before or since have had rough parallels in some of those categories, Bieber's just probably the most at once (although he was never in a group).

There's part of the talky vocals that reminds me of David Banner's Play. That's the only thing I dislike about it.

I like-not-love it. Although he stands accused or is praised for Justinism, Timberlake in 2002 positioned himself as a sex dawg and hired Clipse; Bieber gets down on one knee to assure her of his gentlemanly credentials. The guy's still courting the G to PG crowd.

ppl comparing this to "the whisper song" and "play" are high -- there's a lot more to those songs than soft rapping

So, I watched "Never say never" last night, it's amazing. There was a shot of Scooter Braun watching from side stage, he had tears in his eyes, and I totally get it.

Na na na, that's what I THOUGHT, I was super cynical about the whole thing. "Usher reboots his career", Scooter makes some cheddar, a billion teenagers get obsessive. There's more to it than that, maybe? At least, there was for me. It's like seeing a highlight reel of one's own adolescence. All the good bits but with better hair and clothes.

This article almost makes me feel sorry for him.

We head into his studio, where Aldred greets Bieber and pumps him up for the evening by ripping the sleeves off of his T-shirt while he's still wearing it. OUTTA MY WAY, SLEEVES. This is clearly not the first time they've performed this ritual. It's Bieber's patented entrance move, his talcum powder tossed in the air. Being Justin Bieber means having an endless number of T-shirts to destroy.
