she is someone we've been aware of for like, all of what, five months?

three years!

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 15:30 (twelve years ago) link

"we" is the overwhelming majority of people who know her for that one song, not people who have a global radar for every potty mouth female rapper on the planet earth

internet somebody (some dude), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

amazing compliment, i feel very proud of that :D

well regardless i think my point stands, which is that the weather is fine and life is too nice to worry about the relative quality of post-212 azealia banks releases in the second quarter of 2012

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 15:49 (twelve years ago) link

I didn't really understand the big excitement about that song anyway. ILM loves sass I guess.

Diplo admits it tho:

https://twitter.com/#!/diplo/status/184132935182594048

which I suppose means dj-master d is getting credit for it. And Azealia Banks just hired Diplo (which I assume isn't cheap) just so he could show her one song he's been listening to for her to rap on top.

dayo, Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:28 (twelve years ago) link

aren't they both equally rap/not-rap?

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:29 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I thought Uffie was the Uffie of rap.

212 is the best pop song ive heard in years but i sort of like that comment

"212" is a pop song?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:59 (twelve years ago) link

i guess maybe in england

J0rdan S., Sunday, 15 April 2012 19:59 (twelve years ago) link

"212" is good?

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:00 (twelve years ago) link

yeah it is...popular...music....

a wide descriptor not including say charles-valentin alkan or mika vainio

azaelia banks has the look of an american who will always be more popular in europe, like scott walker or burt stanton

doesn't seem significantly different to me than a lot of popular, even top 40 music stylistically unless you want to quibble about whether certain females playfully rapping over modern dance beats are more of a pop style than others

mh, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:07 (twelve years ago) link

212 is in the uk top 20 atm! A genuine bigger-than-kreayshawn pop hit

liberté, égalité, beyoncé (lex pretend), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:13 (twelve years ago) link

lol britishes

Does she have more than 1 good song? I had no other choice but to un-like her on facebook lmao

billstevejim, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

hah i had no idea this had suddenly charted

americans need some reithian authority figures to get them onto ab instead creed or w/e

Does she have more than 1 good song?

Nope!

i was just joshing around, jeez

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

it is crazy how there is virtually no such thing as measured praise for this song, though, like seemingly every person who likes it totally shits their pants about it

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

the stations have been boosting it pretty hard since whenever it dropped, dunno when the actual "release" was but it's been steadily rising last 6-7 weeks or so

In September 2011, the song was chosen as the 'Record of the Week' by Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1.[3]

r|t|c, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:26 (twelve years ago) link

haha dunno about reithian but i was wondering there if there's as strong a tastemaker impetus about us radio as there is here recently

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:28 (twelve years ago) link

it would be crazier for someone to like it in a measured way i think

i mean i'm bang into it when it's on, it demands that you have to be, but then when it's over it's over and i don't ~identify~ with it after

though that may seem like it i wouldnt call that measured (not like ehh oh hey this is on, this is kinda good sort of tunes) just idk, limited

rambling ass post sorry

r|t|c, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:33 (twelve years ago) link

yeah p much, i think the imperative that enthusiasm for a pop song has to be precisely correlated to ~actual objective and nontransitory value~ is p gauche

that said i think 212 does have great value and will be appreciated for at least 350 years, by the right people

I love the the song. I think it's great. It's no big deal. I think a lot of songs are great. I'm never going to measure anything.

hipsters of the future! how exciting

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:39 (twelve years ago) link

some dude measures everything, and finds it all wanting

it had to be this thread that blows up on a Sunday afternoon

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:46 (twelve years ago) link

that's my whole posting style according to some people so sure (xpost)

some dude, Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link

well it's sunday evening here, the time when everyone gathers around the wireless to count down the hit parade

now that this is charting in the UK it is pretty funny to hear it several times a day with half the words edited out

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 15 April 2012 20:47 (twelve years ago) link

i guess that le cont's getting eaten (up about how much effing hipsters are ripping him off)

lol the radio edit to this is hilarious

teledyldonix, Sunday, 15 April 2012 21:44 (twelve years ago) link

god is the radio edit actually an instrumental?

and it's the radio edit that convinces people to buy it and make it a hit?

people and charts are so baffling to me.
