Thank you Croot. The DJ played "We Got The Beat" at the club tonight and I just died.

I challenge anyone to name one thing the Americans have done as good as that. Forget it. Just forget it.

Bimble, I present to you my retort:

Flipper, Sex Bomb Baby

(I actually have this on DVD... :D)

I can't find a video for this, or even a full length stream, but if you go here, http://www.wastedtalentrecords.com/judys/albums/washarama.html and click on "Guyana Punch" you will hear something worth hearing. I violate this thread's premise.

Thanks, George. Definitely not as good as early PIL, but an honourable mention. Does anyone have any early Replacements videos I can look up on You Tube?

The B-52's video has really set a new standard, I think. That is probably the best thing I've ever seen on You Tube up to this point.

That Jun Togawa is hilarious. Look at that skirt! What the hell, she's wearing a backpack!

I've never even heard of the X-Teens, I'm really impressed. I've heard of Sandii & The Sunsetz, though. I'm amazed how much that lady looks like Kate Bush. I like the music too. I'll try to track down more of these bands. Thanks ILXors! I <3 you.

AAAAAAAH! David Sylvian recorded with Sandii & The Sunsetz????? OMG I am going to have an orgasm. Oh god. Oh god. What in the living hell.

Sacriligiously Dead (Bimble), Sunday, 24 May 2009 11:22 (fifteen years ago) link

Bimble, thought you might get a kick out of the X-Teens. They were early-80s cult heroes in North Carolina. They put out a couple of singles & some albums produced by Don Dixon & Mitch Easter who of course went on to much greater fame producing REM's early work.

that's not my post, Sunday, 24 May 2009 15:52 (fifteen years ago) link

BTW, Don Dixon did some great new wave / power pop as a performer in the early 80s. Search Praying Mantis & Skin Deep. Lots of similarities to Nick Lowe's early 80s work.
