Tough call, this is kind of right when I was starting to get my own music taste so I have feelings for quite a few of these.

Norfolk State of mind (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 04:29 (fourteen years ago)

I like to sing "more cumin than cumaaaaannnn" when I use cumin; voted White Xombie.

This looks to be stuff from '93 and '94. To give you an idea of just how much other stuff MTV discarded to pare things down to just these tracks, may I propose a pair of alternate universe Buzz Bin variants...

1993:
4 Non Blondes - "What's Up?"
Beck - "Loser"
Belly - "Feed The Tree"
Bjork - "Human Behavior"
Breeders - "Cannonball"
Digable Planets - "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)"
Dinosaur Jr. - "Start Choppin'"
Frank Black - "Los Angeles"
Juliana Hatfield 3 - "Spin The Bottle"
Lemonheads - "Into Your Arms"
Lenny Kravitz - "Are You Gonna Go My Way?"
Matthew Sweet - "Girlfriend"
Nirvana - "Heart-Shaped Box"
Pearl Jam - "Daughter"
Porno For Pyros - "Pets"
The Proclaimers - "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Soul To Squeeze"
Smashing Pumpkins - "Disarm"
Spin Doctors - "Two Princes"
Tool - "Sober"
U2 - "Numb"
Ween - "Push Th' Little Daisies"

1994:
Alice In Chains - "No Excuses"
Beastie Boys - "Sabotage"
Candlebox - "Far Behind"
Collective Soul - "Shine"
Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones"
Crash Test Dummies - "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm"
Green Day - "Basket Case"
Hole - "Violet"
Lisa Loeb - "Stay"
Live - "I Alone"
Mazzy Star - "Fade Into You"
Nine Inch Nails - "Closer"
Oasis - "Live Forever"
The Offspring - "Self Esteem"
Pavement - "Cut Your Hair"
REM - "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?"
Sheryl Crow - "All I Wanna Do"
Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
Tori Amos - "God"
Urge Overkill - "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon"
Veruca Salt - "Seether"
Weezer - "Buddy Holly"
Whale - "Hobo Humpin' Slobo Babe"

...which will likely make you nostalgic or nauseous. Or, as is so often the case with these things, a combination of both.

Soggy Cheeseburgers (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:02 (fourteen years ago)

those weren't actual buzz bin stuff videos. though, thats just stuff you made up

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

No Whiney I literally tapped into the alternate universe and brought these through from the other side do you see because that's what I am actually claiming here.

Soggy Cheeseburgers (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:09 (fourteen years ago)

I'm saying a list that has multiplatinum band u2 on it and a whale video that never made it out of Alt Nation rotation wouldnt be in the Buzz Bin even in an alternate universe.

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

Pearl Jam's "Daughter" didn't even have a video. This is a list of nonsense from your iTunes

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:12 (fourteen years ago)

Also, I didn't check beforehand, but it appears that most of those artists qualify. And considering that the videos of most of those songs were effing ubiquitous during that time, the objection is overruled. (gavel sound)

Soggy Cheeseburgers (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:12 (fourteen years ago)

best song on that first Danzig album is "Twist of Cain" though

Truth x 1000

Still from this list I go mother, more human and

I like that this is apparently actually making you angry. Such are the passions stoked when the conversation turns to the Alternative Nation.

Soggy Cheeseburgers (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

Hey man nice shot in #3. But actually I like most of this in at least an inactive way.

Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

Ha wait I just reread the list, I am a liar, I actually hate about half these songs, I think I was just caught up in a nostalgic moment there for a second

Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:15 (fourteen years ago)

im disappointed in you jjj for liking filter

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:17 (fourteen years ago)

Hey man nice shot is totally acceptable and the remixes on the maxi-single (old man moment) are pretty awes, def the best fake swing industrial outside of course of empire. Also I am watching the twist of Cain video atm and Danzig is wearing martial arts gloves for no discern able reason, which is awesome.

Thu'um gang (jjjusten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:22 (fourteen years ago)

MOTHER

if you want to find hell with me
i can show you what it's like...

also: "hey man", "low", "cantaloop", "zombie", "more human", "creep", even "everything's zen"

Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:46 (fourteen years ago)

Why isn't Dig on there?

fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:48 (fourteen years ago)

re: gloves: i always thought they were just punching gloves

Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:49 (fourteen years ago)

and there is no sense in which "twist of cain" is better than "mother", except boogie, and that is a small sense

Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 05:49 (fourteen years ago)

more human > mother > low > what would you say > everything zen > hey man nice shot > creep > hey jealousy > cantaloop > no rain > plush > zombie

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:43 (fourteen years ago)

I think "Zombie" is the clear winner for worst song on this

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

"what would you say" - once you get past the vocal delivery this isn't half bad.

skip, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:54 (fourteen years ago)

for DAVE BRAH DAVE, that's one of his three-at-most stomachable songs

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:55 (fourteen years ago)

White Zombie or Danzig, not keen on anything else here. Worst of the bunch by a country mile: 'Zombie'.

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 12:59 (fourteen years ago)

you people

More Human Than Human > Mother > Creep > Hey Jealousy > Low > Everything Zen > Cantaloop > No Rain > Zombie > Plush > What Would You Say? > Hey Man Nice Shot

da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

i'd been meaning for a while to start a white/rob zombie singles thread to talk about how classic "more human" is but i guess i don't need to

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

Saying this is the fourth best song on this is insane, but I fuck with "WWYS," "Too Much" and "Dont Drink the WAHTAHHH"

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

"Don't Drink" has a nice Peter Gabriel quality if you believe in nice Peter Gabriel qualities

da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

if bush had just made "everything zen" and then disappeared i'd probably be like yeah bush, they were alright

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

Otm

the ineffable genius of DJP (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:03 (fourteen years ago)

I think "Hey Man" is the only song I'd actually switch off if I was driving during some Nineties Rock Block

da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:04 (fourteen years ago)

richard patrick's brother should cover it as "HAAAAAVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU SEEEEN THIIIIS BOYYYYY"

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:06 (fourteen years ago)

Danzig is wearing martial arts gloves for no discern able reason, which is awesome.

plastic surgery dizbusters (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:08 (fourteen years ago)

Was all "hey, why isn't Creep on this list... oh wait."

This was the year that I worked in a record shop, so I got way, way, waaaaaayyyy overexposed to all of these records. Creep was the only one that didn't leave me traumatised by the experience.

But seriously, why aren't Feed The Tree and Cannonball on this album? Either of those tracks would smash Creep. (One of them literally.)

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

Lol this list

Even though I don't mind many of these songs, they do explain why I spent most of the 90s in raveland

also jjj OTM, only sub "Creep" for "Mother"

thuggish ruggish Brahms (DJP), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:12 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I'd have voted "Cannonball" in a heartbeat

thuggish ruggish Brahms (DJP), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:13 (fourteen years ago)

there's a buzz bin wiki but it only lists bands that were in the bin, not which videos were buzz clips: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzz_Bin

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

Hey Jealousy

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:16 (fourteen years ago)

This thread is giving me incredible nostalgia for that Xmas Issue of Melody Maker that had, like, Kurt Cobain snogging (or at least pretending to) Kim Deal under the mistletoe while Courtney egged them on by slapping stickers on their faces, and on the inside, photos of Thom Yorke and Tanya Donelly duetting on mascara and hair bleach and it was the most 90s thing, and I wanted to live inside it forever, oh youth, where did you go?

::puts on Breeders albums and dances about the kitchen::

White Chocolate Cheesecake, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:19 (fourteen years ago)

lol somebody edited Foster the People into the Buzz Band list, A+ Whiney trolling there

plastic surgery dizbusters (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:23 (fourteen years ago)

the wiki list is counting vh1's 'you oughta know' bands

some dude, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

some acts are missing from that list, pretty sure "the concept" and "groovy train" were buzz clips

da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 13:39 (fourteen years ago)

as known

da croupier, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

lol oh god i very much remember seeing 'hey jealousy' on mtv late at night and being like 'whoa awesome who was that!!"

This reminds me of when I heard and enjoyed "Hey Hey What Can I Say" on that Led Zep tribute album, Encomium and then rushed out to buy the Hootie and the Blowfish album. Um.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 25 March 2012 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

xp IIRC Weezer was a buzz clip at least 3 times (Sweater, Buddy Holly and El Scorcho)

billstevejim, Sunday, 25 March 2012 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

also in 1994 lots of kids (like me) were dumb and didnt know any dinosaur jr songs until "feel the pain"

billstevejim, Sunday, 25 March 2012 22:56 (fourteen years ago)

whether it was a corporate scheme or not, it exposed people to decent music they wouldnt have heard otherwise.

There's an odd double bill. If I never hear the Gin Blossoms again it will still be too soon.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 26 March 2012 00:04 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently Hey Man Nice Shot is way worse than either Zombie or WWYS

i figured g.bloss would landslide so i switched my vote to danzig at the last second.

Hey Man Nice Shot at least has a good Wikipedia entry.
