― Lamp, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
btw anyone going get campsites now it is a nightmare
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
y'all should come down to Big Sur, esp. northwestern folks
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
haha when i pitched going to this to my bf this morning he was like 'is there camping' and then made a face
― Lamp, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)
i have family nearby -- so i'd either crash there, go for a charming cheapish motel, or just drive down and do only one of the days
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:42 (fourteen years ago)
camping in big sur is kind of glamping any way you slice it imo <---- this could be wrong
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
what is glamping?
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
ok this thread has convinced me to get tix for this
my family would camp in Big Sur for a weekend or so every summer when i was a kid. it was pretty much normal camping.
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
glamour campingyea it's pretty much normal camping, but with like burrito places down the road
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)
there weren't any burrito places anywhere nearby when i was a kid! we had peanut butter & jelly sandwiches and campfire hotdogs and s'mores and stuff.
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:47 (fourteen years ago)
lol at burrito places making something glamourous. especially when in big sur there are super fancy places to eat.
― mizzell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:48 (fourteen years ago)
i think there were bathrooms with running water, but that was about it for amenities

― mizzell, Friday, 9 March 2012 18:51 (fourteen years ago)
I've never been able to eat at the fancy places, anyway I'll see ya'll there
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 18:54 (fourteen years ago)
when you are camping, burritos are the height of decadent glamour. wet, hot and wearing pumps.
― Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Friday, 9 March 2012 18:56 (fourteen years ago)
^ referring to myself, oc
you wear pumps to go camping?
― sarahell, Friday, 9 March 2012 19:01 (fourteen years ago)
glumping
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:02 (fourteen years ago)
do you have a rec. of which one to shoot for?
― dmr, Friday, 9 March 2012 19:03 (fourteen years ago)
wait i thought the burrito was wearing pumps
― mizzell, Friday, 9 March 2012 19:04 (fourteen years ago)
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
― mizzell, Friday, 9 March 2012 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

if you head up to big sur early or want to just try for it I would rec that you get a first come first serve site at andrew molera. This is prob the cheapest option and while the sites themselves are just like in an empty meadow its right next to a beach and close to the library.
Fernwood is pretty alright for a private campsite so I would hop on it if there aren't any state park options. Pfeiffer's incredible if you can get a spot in the redwoods, but this fills up super quick, may be some availability now. These three are all pretty close to the venue. Kirk creek is generally considered the best park to camp at of all of these but it's about 40 mins to an hour from the venue and not easy to get a site there. There are couple other public and private places that are cheap that I've never stayed at, but I know some of the other state ones are kind of inland and a bitch to get to.
I am prob not as well versed as a lot of other people here but that's what I got

I AM THE BURRITO!
― Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:19 (fourteen years ago)
uh, anyway, i have been listening to "don't lie" over and over again for quite a while. nice accidental (?) fringe benefit of lofi gleverb camping style is that it sounds boss through shitty computer speakers.
― Fozzy Osbourne (contenderizer), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)
super helpful, thanks
if I'm able to swing it I'd probably be getting in fairly last-minute so I think I'd need something I can reserve in advance
― dmr, Friday, 9 March 2012 19:35 (fourteen years ago)
then I would say Pfeiffer #1 and Fernwood or whatever other private site around there (there are a couple right next to it) #2
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Friday, 9 March 2012 19:42 (fourteen years ago)
wish I could go to this
― fuck deathcore and metalcore (Algerian Goalkeeper), Friday, 9 March 2012 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

― flopson, Saturday, 10 March 2012 20:20 (fourteen years ago)
i was disappointed that when i saw them they didn't do very many songs about pizza, like they might have done one.

so excited for Woodsist Fest. can't believe it's in like 2 weeks.
Michael Hurley had to drop out so they added Sun Araw. Also a King Tuff pre-fest show on the Friday but me and my friend are staying in SF that night so we'll miss that one.
if anyone is going and wants to meet up, email me at dmr3345 at gmail, I'd be down to hang out

The record by The Woolen Men has been a consistent favorite this year.
― Trip Maker, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 15:28 (twelve years ago)
That Woolen Men record is quite the sleeper hit. I went to Woodsist fest this year. Man it was literally the chillest thing ever.
― Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Thursday, 7 November 2013 03:03 (twelve years ago)
my friend JT who I went with last year went again. I was kinda jealous even though (imo) the lineup wasn't as good.

PAINTED SHRINES Debut Album Heaven and Holy Out Today on Woodsist
New Collaboration Featuring Jeremy Earl of Woods & Glenn Donaldson of Skygreen Leopards / The Reds, Pinks & Purples
― Oor Neechy, Friday, 5 March 2021 16:34 (five years ago)
It's very Woods-y which is totally a good thing. Breezy and fun. Though Woods have a more interesting rhythm to them imo
― black dice live ft. jerry garcia (rizzx), Saturday, 6 March 2021 09:12 (five years ago)
the reds pinks and purples record last year was amazing, this doesnt quite reach those heights but it's very pleasant. agree that it feels less idk rangy or loose than woods, the reds pinks purples drum machine pop aesthetic tamps things down a bit.
― adam, Tuesday, 9 March 2021 15:33 (five years ago)
I enjoyed it
― Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 9 March 2021 16:35 (five years ago)
is anyone going to the fest this weekend? do people need rain panchos?
